Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Tuesday night vintage music show, here is Jo Stafford (who passed away a couple months ago, at age 90) performing The Gentleman Is A Dope (1947, 2:45).

Wow! Steve Paikin and The Agenda do a Troofer show.
2 whack job Canadian university professors, one a religious studies prof from McMaster, the other an English and Theatre Studies prof from the U. of Guelph, were patiently but effectively countered by 2 patient American guys.
And, 72% of the show’s viewers, those that went to TVO.org and voted, believe the U.S. government was responsible. Wow.
Looks like Taliban Jack has a bit of puffin-poo on his shoes tonite! From canoe CanadaVotes column by Murray Brewster:

Mississigua Matt,Don’t read too much into this, truthers live for these shows. They e-mail each other to let their people know that they are going to get ‘real’ exposure. Try to imagine a nation wide game of ‘dungeons and dragons’.Some adults get sucked in,but it is mostly children who grew up playing ‘D and D’ because no one would come looking for them when they played ‘hide and go seek’.

Re: Election. Why was Harper so miffed with the pooping puffin? Because he knows he is almost certainly got at least a minority win locked up, and the only chance the Grits have, and even that is a buzzer beater 3 point way outside jump shot
– is if Canadians feel sorry for Dion, the poor man.
Harper the bully boy. Here we go again. That’s their only chance and they’ll go for it big time.
People say elections are like horse races (as in book series Absent Mandate). The book’s original thesis was the media (MSM?) decided what the election issues were and they were off. As a result real issues were discussed through the media’s prism, with deleterious results for democracy.
The advent of the internet has changed that, IMO. The only relation 21st century elections have to a horserace is that they’re both sport. So, it’s tempting to skewer your opponents, then blame their negativity. Does anyone know who actually started this negative BS?
I know it’s fun for some, but dissing Dion enhances, (OK minisculy, but Canadian politics are very fickle) his super slim chance of minority victory.
Why bother? Let’s debate the issues, with it’s daily cut and thrust in an election campaign, where issues actually matter for little while.
Here’s what I mean (warning-Tory partisan statement).
Mr Ignatieff criticized Mr Harper proposal to cut the excise tax on diesel fuel, by stating producers would “pocket” the tax decrease. Now, picture two diesel fuel suppliers, but with not reducing their price. How much diesel fuel will the more greedy producer sell?
Approximately zero. Economics 101. Gas stations can’t do, and neither can producers. (Yes, there are exceptions, like no diesel fuel available for 100 miles, but were taling macro here).
Ignatieff should know that. His party acknowledges carbon taxes will be passed on to consumers, because they promise reduced taxes elsewhere to compensate. Taxes are simply passed on, one way or the other.
Polluters pay alright because consumers pay, and they are the polluters. We drive the cars that consume the fuel. Jack Layton can call the tar sands the worst emmitter in the world, but c’mon, is all that oil going to China. And why do we import oil anyway?
Oh, sorry, got carried away. Anyway, I feel better, thanks for the rant room; talking issues and no chucking puffin s**t!
qwerty1,
Thanks for bringing this outrageous devilry to my attention. The woman is definitely out to lunch if she thinks being a genuin human being can sway voters. The very thought of it make me ill.
One of the “View” gang put viewers straight though. She told us all that McCain was just trying to be divisive by picking Palin. Also, we learned that McCain didn’t even vet het, just Googled her and that was good enough. LOL, it was the same woman that tried to convince the Americans that Canada was responsible for 9/11. Real street cred.
This should make you feel better Shamrock; Begin The Begine . A Joe Stafford favorite.
In the effort to make Shamrock feel better, here is Joe Stafford in an old favorite. Begin the Begine whatever that means.
Don’t know about you Shamrock, but I feel so good I would like to present another oldie. Nick Lucas 1951
Watch for the trio of beauties who help Nick finish off the number.
Mr. Nicklin, that is not so outrageous. Paul Martin picked our current GG because he thought she was hot,or the hottest cbc employee on the list. I agree, and I do think she has done well, but the fact that she was’hot’ and made the cbc short list, overrides the FLQ connections.
Meant to say ‘should not override the FLQ connections.
Mr.V,have you ever taken count of the numbers of youtube viewings before your offerings and then again the next day?
Well thank you Gunney99. That was nice. Hey, I do feel better.
wallyj,
That was mean to be tongue in cheek. There’s nothing outrageous in what McCain, or more likely his handlers, did in picking Palin. They needed a shot of life in what could have been a dead campaign.
I suppose our current GG was chosen because she’s “hot.” But, along with the past GG, she is a media darling, for lack of a better word. The media hates Palin because she could upset their darling Obama.
I didn’t know our GG was connected to the FLQ. Thanks for the info.
Sorry,I misunderstood, sometimes when humour imitates life it is hard to tell the two apart. Her hubby is /was a devout separatist and the two of them are/were part of the intellectually elite that embraced the FLQ and their ideas.Havng said that ,I like the idea of an old white guy choosing a hot brown babe that sleeps with another old white guy to a ‘comfortable position’.
I have to hire another typist, the current one drinks too much.
At last I found the story on the Bunny attacking Jimmy Carter. A lot of folks have called me a liar over this event saying it neve happend. Still laughing all these years latter.
President Jimmy Carter and the “killer rabbit”
April 20th, 1979
On a fishing trip in Plains, Georgia, President Carter had an encounter with a “swamp rabbit”. This seemingly trivial event was seized upon by the press and became a sort of Rorschach test of the Carter presidency: reporters and commentators saw in this story whatever they wanted to see in Carter’s administration. Jody Powell, Carter’s press secretary, described the affair in his 1986 book The Other Side of the Story:
It began late one afternoon in the spring of 1979. The President was sitting with a few of us on the Truman Balcony. He had recently returned from a visit to Plains, and we were talking about homefolks and how the quail were nesting and similar matters of international import.
Suddenly, for no apparent reason — he was drinking lemonade, as I recall — the President volunteered the information that while fishing in a pond on his farm he had sighted a large animal swimming toward him. Upon closer inspection, the animal turned out to be a rabbit. Not one of your cutesy, Easter Bunny-type rabbits, but one of those big splay-footed things that we called swamp rabbits when I was growing up.
The animal was clearly in distress, or perhaps berserk. The President confessed to having had limited experience with enraged rabbits. He was unable to reach a definite conclusion about its state of mind. What was obvious, however, was that this large, wet animal, making strange hissing noises and gnashing its teeth, was intent upon climbing into the Presidential boat.

Jonathan Kay continues to take the CBC including Ombudsman Vince Carlin and reporter Neil McDonald to task over McDonald’s report, in which he presented as *news* internet rumours that had been debunked well before McDonald mindfully tried to re-float them coast to coast, at taxpayers’ expense, on The National:
http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fullcomment/archive/2008/09/09/jonathan-kay-meet-an-ordinary-canadian-who-s-decided-to-take-the-cbc-to-task-for-its-viciously-dishonest-reporting.aspx
Kay includes series of emails between a citizen who complained about McDonald’s smear, and the CBC’s Ombudsman. Later the Executive Producer of The National responds as well. This bit from the Executive Producer particularly stands out:
“…by the time of the broadcast some Internet bloggers had decided that the ‘grandmother’ rumours were not true. That may be the case, although others seemed less certain. But (at the time of McDonald’s report), the rumours had gone so far beyond the internet….”
This from an Executive Producer at The National.
Kay also hammered the CBC and Mallick in today’s column in the Post,
“Yet Macdonald and Mallick are turning the broadcaster into just another left-wing blog. Why, exactly, should Canadians be paying $1-billion for agitprop they can get from DailyKos.com or Rabble.ca?”

“Another week, another disgrace at the CBC” by Jonathan Kay in National Post today reminds us what we’re paying for but it also tells us the rot in that place is putting out a very bad image of us as Canadians. After all, they work for us and are disgracing us all.
We need an apology to us and an apology to Governor Palin. That attack is grounds for litigation.
Lets demand Mallick be fired NOW. Lets also demand Neil Macdonald be fired NOW, he’s not fit to be a correspondent in Washington from OUR network.
He must apologize for his outrageous accusation that Governor Palin engaged a massive conspiracy to claim her grandchild as her own.
These apologies must have a special time alloted on the National news broadcast for all to hear. They must also be printed in all newspapers.

Thanks, Vitruvius. You took me on a trip down Memory Lane and reminded me what a fine singer Jo Stafford was–and somewhat underrated, I think. Is she considered “a singer’s singer”? She doesn’t seem to have made it into the Pantheon of Singers like Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, or Ella Fitzgerald.
That set took me back to watching all these crooners on the black and white TV when I was a teenager. Even though I loved the Beatles, I still loved to watch these schmaltzy, bring on the violins, specials. Those were the days!
As for Heather Malicious: I don’t think the CBC can fire her because as far as I can tell–I’m open to correction–she’s not a CBC employee. She’s a freelance writer (sic) and sells articles to the CBC, which is why her viewpoint was titled “special to CBC news.”
So, what’s so “special” about this article and what’s “news” about it? ‘Just another example of the CrapBoldlyCrapping provides cash for life to their friends. Ms. Mallick’s piece should have gone straight into the trash bin.

Thanks for the link, EBD. I especially liked this part:
With respect to your treatment of the rumours surrounding Mrs. Palin, Mr. Macdonald’s reports were structured in a manner that would perhaps indicate that there was some legitimacy in the reports, and the tone and manner of the reports were not neutral, but negative. I put before you and the CBC Ombudsman that this is a continuing pattern in Mr. Macdonald’s reports, in which he allows his personal views to enter into the “news” reports that he decides to report on. As a Canadian taxpayer, I own as much of the CBC as any other Canadian, and I do not appreciate Mr. Macdonald’s willingness and ability to use our broadcast network as a platform for his personal views during our NATIONAL news broadcast.
Mr. Macdonald has developed a history and a track record of embedding his personal biases into his reports, and you should not stand for it, nor act as her personal defender, you should instead be defending me, and millions of Canadians like me, on all ends of the political spectrum, who wish to see some fairness and balance return to the CBC.
Best regards,
Adam

LindaL…Canadians have already voted in a Prime Minister because they felt sorry for him.Remember when the Conservative party decided to run an ad showing Chretien speaking mangled english through the side of his face, accompanied with'”would you want this man to be the next Prime Minister”,or something like that.Chretien played it as he should have, not by getting defensive, but by pretending to be sincere,”his not my fault,hi was born like dis”,and gullible Canadians sighed a collective awwww, then turned around and gave the most corrupt Prime Minister this country has ever seen a majority.
Jonathan Tobin, There’s Something About Sarah
Though one expects Democrats to disagree with the substance of her remarks, the patronizing contempt with which Palin’s candidacy has been regarded must go deeper than simple partisanship.
Palin’s nomination has reignited the culture wars of the 1980s and ’90s, as liberals view her not merely as a representative of the political party they oppose, but as an icon of a culture they regard with snobbish distaste and trepidation.
These sentiments span the liberal spectrum, and quite notably reside within a Jewish demographic. A portion of whom had heretofore been open to the McCain candidacy. Judging by the reaction she has generated, Palin is well on her way to becoming the evangelical bogeywoman for liberal Jews who view her beliefs as the antithesis to all they hold dear. For them, the Palin phenomenon is a nightmare…

“Carbon offsets are a campaign expense?
Give the Liberals credit. Cash-strapped as they are, they are paying for carbon offsets. I mean, I think carbon offsets are dumb, but the Liberals are walking the walk, as it were.
But then the Liberals are hoping to get donations to cover the cost of carbon offsets, which they say is a campaign expense.
Which leads to interesting questions.
National Direction of the Liberal Party, Greg Fergus, has sent an email to Liberals asking for yet more cash to cover election campaign expenses.
It is the latest of a stream of such emails. Leader Stephane Dion sent out a plea for more money on September 7, President Doug Ferguson and Deputy Leader Michael Ignatieff each separately on September 8, and Campaign Co-Chair Senator David Smith on September 9.
The one from Greg Fergus is particularly interesting, since it pleads for money to offset the pollution created by Stephane Dion’s campaign:”
