Reader Tips

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Saturday night contemporary music show, here are Dieter Meier and Boris Blank as Yello, featuring Dame Shirley Bassey, performing The Rhythm Divine (1987, 3:31), a contemporary version of her 1964 James Bond Goldfinger classic. Dame Shirley is the only singer to have performed more than one, and indeed three, Bond themes.

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

  1. “Guy Earle’s hecklers may get the last laugh”: a headline you find when you Google “Guy Earle.”
This might just be the case. Having spent the night at the Guy Earle Benefit, it sadly seems clear that his supporters don’t have much of a sense of what, exactly, Mr. Earle is facing or why they were doing one-minute stand-up comedy routines to a rather small crowd.
The words of the evening were f*** and c*** and variations on this theme, which is why I don’t normally frequent joints offering stand-up comedy. On the other hand, I wanted to support Mr. Earle’s–and his fellow comedians’–right to spout the sex-on-the-brain-inanities that were the favourite currency of his male and female/lesbian supporters.
I’m not sure they know what’s hit them. It may take a while, as even the blow to Mr. Earle’s human rights (which may soon happen to them) seems still to be a joke.
I’m waiting to hear that Mr. Earle has won his case and that the HRCs are shutting down
    …in my dreams.

  3. Regulating shade in Toronto:
“City bureaucrats will fan out across Toronto this summer to analyze the angle of the sun at different times of the day, measure the amount of direct or reflected sunlight and asses the ‘quantity and usability’ of shade in parks, playgrounds and pools.
“The ‘shade audits’ are part of a pilot project authorized by city council this week that could soon result in Toronto regulating shade.”
Incidentally — or not incidentally, really — the plan passed 27-2.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki did not back the plan of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq and his comments to a German magazine on the issue were misunderstood, the government’s spokesman said on Sunday.

  13. “The poison infecting China
Yiyi Lu: China is now paying a heavy environmental price for its economic growth
Last September, the deputy director of a local Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in central China led a team to investigate the illegal discharge of waste water by a pharmaceutical factory. While the director was taking a sample of the waste water, he inhaled the fumes and passed out. Later he was diagnosed as suffering from poisoning and hospitalised.
Commentators called this a “lucky” incident. If it had been a local resident, rather than an EPA official, who had passed out after going near the sewage, it would not have been considered newsworthy. Such incidents are common in many parts of China.”

“Why has China bought Mugabe a mansion?
It may not be surprising that, as befits any mad dictator, President Mugabe is now the proud owner of a palatial £4.5 million mansion in Harare and a similarly lavish country hideaway, each fitted with the latest electronic security systems, including anti-aircraft missiles.
But why should all this have been provided for him by the People’s Republic of China?
The explanation lies in a deal struck in 2005 whereby Mr Mugabe handed over to China his country’s mineral rights, including the world’s second largest reserves of platinum, worth £250 billion.”

“Their verdicts are approved, and they may be executed at any time,” she told reporters.

  15. Liberal party member wakes up. Mugged by reality! He’s now an Ex-Liberal Party member.
Says Citoyen Dion & Liberals are a “political thugocracy”.
    Whooda thunk it?
    More:
Citoyen Dion is Napoleon? BTW, ex-Citoyen Bonaparte holds the world record for the shortest plkhs.
Vive l’Empereur Dion. Longer live the Emperor Dion.
This sob story doesn’t have these words: Harper, Tory, Conservative; nor, any of that genre.
But, it does include the worstest below-the-belt shot, aka Jesse’s Jab, known to the liberal-left: Citoyen Dion and his thugs are worser than King George! Imagine any political group worser/lower than King George? That’s da Liberal Party of Canada.
“”The only other group I know of that will not let proven facts, the law, logic or common sense divert them from the course of action they have predetermined for themselves, is President Bush’s administration. Surely the Liberal party can do better than that,” Straith said.”
More on the Liberal “political thugocracy”:
“As for the Liberal Party of Canada, they have lost one of their biggest advocates. Straith, who after more than 40 years of loyal service to the Liberals, has called it quits.
“I am not a member of the Liberal Party of Canada at this time. I had been since the 1960s. I will rejoin when civility, decency, common sense and the rule of law returns. I have no interest in belonging to an organization currently best described as a “political thugocracy” where unelected officials have a licence to politically kneecap representatives nominated by the riding association and duly elected in a general election.””

    A teaser:
“The purpose of these enforcement actions (against short selling), once again is to fortify ‘confidence in the financial markets in order to avoid bank runs. But the markets are not entitled to our confidence, and a comprehensive run on the banks and the markets is really the only rational course of action – that is, panicking now, before we’re given official permission to panic, by which time it will be too late.
It is because they didn’t panic in a timely fashion that many investors and depositors in IndyMac are now caught in what the Los Angeles Times correctly called a ‘financial hostage drama’.
They are told that their money is safe now that it is in an institution owned and operated by the FDIC, only to learn that the funds they need are frozen. This means, of course, that the money is safe from being used by those who easrned it and to whom it properly belongs.”

  20. Political thuggery thrives in Mugabe’s Zimbabwe and, so says ex-Liberal member, in Citoyen Dion’s Liberal Party of Canada.
The natural end result of socialism: “political thugocracy”, aka “Mugabe’s thuggery”.

    “President Robert Mugabe’s thuggery.”
“Zimbabweans use blogs, text messages to share stories, photos
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – The photographs of the tortured body of an opposition official are blurry but chilling.
Posted on the “This is Zimbabwe” blog, they show charred, lacerated limbs and blank eyes staring out from the face of the official, Gift Mutsvungunu, frozen in a death grimace. A note accompanying the pictures says the picture quality is bad because the photographer was shaking with fear.
Increasingly, Zimbabweans are going online and using cellphone text messages to share stories of life and death in a country where independent traditional media have been all but silenced, and from which reporters from most international media have been barred.
“Any organization or NGO working in the area of promotion of free expression is at risk,” Bev Clark, one of the founders of the Kubatana blogging forum, said via email. “Zimbabwe is encased in fear.”
Harare-based Kubatana is a network of nonprofit organizations that runs a blogging forum. The forum relies on 13 bloggers in Zimbabwe, who e-mail submissions to an administrator who posts them to the site. The network also reaches beyond the web by sending text messages to 3,800 subscribers.
Zimbabwe’s bloggers are mainly opposition activists whose themes range from HIV/AIDS to the country’s economic meltdown to President Robert Mugabe’s thuggery.”

  22. The Case of the Non-Existent “Kelowna Accord”.
The “Kelowna Accord” does not exist anywhere but in Ad$Cam Martin, Jr’s Liberal mind.

*Right Hon. Paul Martin: No, I didn’t, but we can certainly get one for you very quickly.” (ibid)

    Excerpt:
Mr. Rod Bruinooge (Winnipeg South, CPC): Mr. Martin, did you bring a copy of the Kelowna Accord with you today?
*Right Hon. Paul Martin: No, I didn’t, but we can certainly get one for you very quickly. There are a lot of them available.
Mr. Rod Bruinooge: Well, you’d think you would have brought a copy today.
Right Hon. Paul Martin: Probably not because I assumed that you had read it. It was tabled in the House of Commons.
Mr. Rod Bruinooge: Mr. Martin, there is a press release. I think that’s what you’re referring to, that what was tabled in the House is a news release of November 25. Clearly, it is not an accord. Perhaps I’m not as learned a parliamentarian as yourself, but I do know that an accord has a signature page.
I was wondering if perhaps you could indicate the time at which this accord was signed by the 13 leaders that you met with?
Right Hon. Paul Martin: All 13 leaders at a publicly televised meeting stood up and endorsed the accord, as did the leadership–
Mr. Rod Bruinooge: Mr. Martin, we watched on television. We didn’t see a signature.
Right Hon. Paul Martin: I’m answering you, as did the leadership, and following that there was a signed agreement with the province of British Columbia, which (inaudible)
Mr. Rod Bruinooge: I didn’t ask about the British Columbia agreement. I was asking about this document that you’re referring to.
Right Hon. Paul Martin: No, but wait. May I?”

You may believe that the gun registry has been placed on the back burner. NOT SO! This weekend I met a woman who has loose jaws, and are not necessarily connected to her brains. She is employed by the gun registry. You can’t imagine the data these people have on you. From the location of your firearm, to the colour of your eyes, to fine details about your spouse. This is WWII Gestapo tacticts! Her final words, after I told her what I thought of the registry. “It’s not Saskatchewan or Alberta who will change the registry. It’s the large Liberal vote from Ontario.” Wake up guys, before it’s too late!! And remember, we now have a Conservative gov in Ottawa, not a Liberal adminstration!
