And save the useful fools the trouble of crossing over one at a time?
Originally a successful radio and television producer, Phillips, who is English, worked in America, Canada, Italy, Russia and the UK for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), before accepting her new role as Al Jazeera English director of foreign bureau and development in Doha, Qatar.

Merger? Someone say a network merger is in the wind?
How about CBC and Al Jazeera? Good match?
Why would Al-Jazeera risk being tarnished by the CBC’s legendary anti-American, anti-Israel bias?
Great idea! Then the Canadian taxpayer can subsidize both.
maybe CBCpravda employees see the writing on the wall and are making a break for a safe haven.
I can picture Kneel McDonald in a fez ranting about Bush years after GWB is retired.
Keith Boag reading a newspaper as a story with the sphinx in the background standing on the patio of the KFC complaining about American imperialism.
I agree – merge them and have them head-officed in some hell hole city in the middle east. Good ridence.
Wait, they aren’t merged already?
How can you tell?
I think that Damian gets kudos for the line of the day. Great stuff!
I posted this in the tips yesterday. The CBC version has rumours of another ready to go (but doesn’t name the person.)
I used to think that the CBC was a leftard’s training ground for the Senate (and GG) but I guess the failures go to Al Jezeera.
Listen, don’t think that these CBC types are going to suffer in their new homes in Doha; it’s quite the modern place, apparently, a hub site of the ‘modern’ Middle East.
I’d compare the exodus of the CBC to the British moving, as an elite class, to India or Africa. They’ll be living very well; they’ll see themselves as an elite class; they’ll see themselves as ‘teaching the locals’ and ‘teaching the West’ about the magnificence of the locals. Indeed, they’ll be living better – and in better weather (admittedly hot) – than in Canada.
Phillips is a token, she’s there to help sanitize the Al Jazeera hate spewers. She certainly has no illusions that she will be asked to help balance their hate mongering content. Her vacuous blond head and British accent are all that they want out of her, well, throw in some easy PR chores, and, that’s about it.
How people like her construct an internal fantasy that reconciles Al Jazeera’s endorsement of terrorists and their vile hate mongering content with western values is beyond me. It would seem to me that you are either extremely stupid, extremely greedy or extremely morally corrupt or all three. I guess because she can’t read the Arabic content she can pretend it’s just like the WSJ.
I wouldn’t get too excited. I’m sure the Canadian journalist career track will return to the more familiar Liberal Party Communication Director/Governor General as career pinnacle once the Natural Ruling Party returns to its rightful place.
If the Libranos form the next gov’t I see a GG in waiting.
Despite the current problems with “spine” amongst the federal Torys, I think it quite unlikely the Libranos will hold the government chair for the next while…
Funny to see who they (the CBC) turn to when the petro dollars beckon, now that fed work seems to be not so easy to attain.
any idea of what the pay scale is like over there?
whose side will they take when Iran plays its nuclear card? and it all turns to glass in the east…
** I used to think that the CBC was a leftard’s training ground for the Senate (and GG) but I guess the failures go to Al Jezeera.**
Not at all Warwick,
Al Jazeera is a step up, a widening of experience and an experiment in loyalties.
I shudder to consider that Canadians who quietly resent that our GG is a separatist will finally protest loudly when the next GG is nominated from Al Jazeera ranks.
Defections to Al Jazeera should raise severe doubts about the hot bed of revolt that stews at the CBC.
Good reason to disband the leftist media monster and start fresh with a smaller, less top-heavy and far more professionally unbiased National media. = TG
