See, fighting man to man is actually a bit of a cultural thing. Mostly Anglo-ish. The Irish, say what you will about them, but they are not a stabby people, nor a slit your throat in the middle of the night people. They are a fight man to man people.
Notre Dame University came by its team name honestly; the Irish were good to go, bub, back in the 19th century. Without a pot to piss in, it is no wonder. And yet many other ethnic groups came, and didn’t get the fighting tag. Perhaps because they were pussies.
Playing football as a small boy, a black kid once picked up rocks and threw them at me during a dispute at practice. I scarcely needed to read Pliny the Elder or Pierre Berton to grok this was a cultural thing wholly alien to Anglo Canadian culture.
The whole concept of a “fair” fight is culturalist. Native American Indians never met face to face, army to army; war was almost exclusively fought in the cover of night, or via sneak attack at daybreak. Never seen an Indian throw a rock in a fight, though. Sun Tzu-inspired Asians thought trench warfare was well beyond nuts. Point being, for Kurds and Turks settling a dispute, in 2008, with rocks and sticks might very well be par. Not an excuse, but very much the opposite.
HAUL THEIR TURKISH/KURDISH ARSES BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM….then call me !!

I applaud humanrightact’s skillset. Copy and Paste is crucial in these days of tech worker shortage.
Jema43, great post.
Vince- Being of Irish descent, I’d be happy to accept your assessment of Irish honour. Problem is the honour system is long dead in most cultures, including Irish. Kidnapping, car bombs, kneecapping, aren’t an Iraqi invention. And I’ve thrown a few rocks in my day, when all else failed.
My sons are very good with the fists, but they are well aware that it isn’t enough these days. I constantly drive home the fact that you must always assume the opponent is about to pull a weapon, no matter what colour of his skin.
“If you leave anything unlocked on the farm now, the Hutterites will be pawning it for beer money within hours.”
Please elaborate on this if you would, I find the Hutterites and Menonites to be very honest people. I leave my doors unlocked at all times. I have lost nothing. Perhaps this is unique to your part of the country? Can you provide links please to the high crime rate you expouse? I googled for half an hour and could find nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Well except for one posting about bigotry, which ironically enough steered me back to this blog. 3w.peacefulsocieties.org/NAR06/060518hutt.html
“An even longer comment string on this issue grew steadily last week on the blog “Small Dead Animals”. Some writers expressed open hostility toward the Hutterites: “That’s why they drive $500,000 combines and send their women to steal shoes from Wal-Mart;” or “too damn much ‘political correctness’ in our world today….” Others were quite misinformed: “Hutterites don’t have a problem carrying and touching money with the Queen’s picture on it.”

But sometimes I can be quite stupid when searching for lost things so I would appreciate your help dp.
I’d rather not go there alamatl. I could give some personal experience, but it’s still hearsay.
Why not see if you can find some links on the major cocaine smuggling ring the RCMP busted a few years back. A van full of mennonites attracted the drug dog at a Manitoba border crossing. His handler almost ignored him because he couldn’t believe mennonites could possibly have cocaine in their van. It turned out they had connections with Mexican mennonites, and had been running drugs unnoticed for some time. The ringleader was fairly high up in the mennonite community.
There are several retail outlets in my hometown that have asked hutterites to stop coming into their stores. For one thing they supposedly have no personal finances. That’s always a bad situation when surrounded by goodies. Garage sales are a favourite haunt. My kids lost a couple of BMX helmets, and noticed shortly after the van pulled away. My ex-wife had to chase a couple of women out of her garden a couple years back. They cruise the allies in the late summer.
Those vans spend a lot of time in the parking lot of the pawn shop. They love beer, but aren’t alloted any cash to buy it. They make their own wine, but I suppose they get tired of the same old poison every day. Their wine is extremely potent and they use it liberally on people to soften up business deals. Most of the men over age 30 start drinking by noon, so the next time one of those vans passes you doing 140 or so, move over, the driver is probably twice the legal limit.
That sort of ties in with the drivers lisence issue. Without a picture it’s easier to fool the cops, and to share a lisence.
I hope that helps with your research alamatl. As I said these are just hearsay references, so they might be true.
There was recently some controversy over some words Stephen Harper said. The quote in question, if you aren’t an outright denier of basic science, genetics, and history, would be obvious to an observer as not being genetically plausible for the WASP Harper. Irish guys like Mulroney are prone to bombast, but not the WASP.
This is the level of thinking you, my fellow citizens, need to be at. I, for one, can look at a manufactured fake quote attributed to Harper, or Chretien for that matter, and say “A man with his DNA simply does not talk like that.” And I’ll be right often enough to make you look like a fool.
“I hope that helps with your research alamatl. As I said these are just hearsay references, so they might be true.”
Well I tried the one about the Hutterites being busted at the border in Manitoba and drew a blank. I did get a hit on the Mexican-US border bust back in 1989 where the dog went crazy and I did get a hit on two youths selling coke in their colony but that was also in the states, so I think I’ll just go with the hearsay angle as the more likely explanation. By the way I also heard that Jews eat Gentile babies, and I read on a CBC comment thread last week that Catholics weren’t really Christians, lots of that hearsay stuff going around it seems! I prefer something a little more factual for my research, but thank-you for the lead dp. Well nite all!
‘But throwing rocks at Kurds is their CULTURE…this wasn’t a riot it was a multicultural event in which the two cultural identity groups celebrated their cultures in a traditional way.’ – OK, now THAT was funny. 🙂
1) The Turds and the Kurks did not “come from Toronto” as the writer in the Ed Sun suggests.
2) I have tried to be patient and tolerant of ethnic ‘minorities’ for the last 20 years but it’s wearing thin.
3) When I die, if I am not already predestined for hell, I am going to ask for a special temporary pass and then I’m going down there to find PET and I’m going to kick him right square in the bag. Repeatedly.
You’re quite welcome alamatl. Any time you need more rumors, apocryphyl stories, urban legends, I’m your best source. Keep in mind that these stories might be true.
Oh yeah, I forgot the time I lost $3000 worth of surface casing from a drilling rig, and we followed the tracks across the field to the colony. Before I could get the police involved I got shut down for the sake of “good relations”. You see, we had about 10 wells to drill on Hutterite land, and the mothership decided to take their losses and watch the store a little closer.
And the time I had to meet a field boss on a back road and pay him $1000 cash for “equipment rental”. It seemed he needed the cash more than the rest of the colony.
A really funny experience was watching Dr R****s S**dan(retired) angrily expel an elder from his office for allegedly “knocking up another daughter”. Of course he was joking. He had a strange sense of humor.
But despite all these rumors and innuendo, I agree with alamatl that these folks are of high moral standing. They are in fact the salt of the earth. I’ve never believed they use human waste to fertilize their cash vegetable crop, though I’ve never figured out why they have no separate disposal system. And the old story about women filling those dresses with Wal-Mart booty is not credible. Most of those women don’t have much room under there with those child bearing hips.
I won’t even go there with the apocryphyl of the hutterites paying stud fees to avoid the effects of inbreeding. Really. Not even I believe that one. Dr David Suzuki has an opinion about their chances for genetic survival. He estimates their gene pool will shrink to the point of ultimate extinction in a few generations. Try finding that link alamatl. Dr Suzuki actually IS an expert in that field.
dp -I have relatives and friends who live near the Hutterites and they have ‘heard’ the same hearsay as you have – hope that helps alamatl.

Slap him a couple times for me will ya Brian?
All this Bull crap about “tolerance” is laughable. If we have to tolerate something that means we will PUT UP with it but we really don’t like it. Since when does tolerance apply to something we like or love?
Pierre Trudeau was the architect whose ideas are contributing to the gradual erosion of the Canada built on the rule of law from solid Judeo-Christian principles. His plan protected the Frenchness of Quebec and made a divisive stew pot of the rest of Canada. It says other than in Quebec, we must TOLERATE and cede to all comers. We have the Supremes in the high court who will interpret the Trudeau Charter, we can then TOLERATE their decisions.
“nomderetard: People are NOT inherently good. IF they were, your GODS, Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Castro would not have the blood of hundreds of millions on their hands.”
If people were inherently good, you wouldn’t need GOD…
BTW, I suppose most of you are not old enough, but this multiculti Liberal thing is not Trudeaupian. You need to look to his predecessor, Lester B. (Pearson) for that. PET’s attitude was more about laissez-faire then overt multi-culti. The MC part is the result of the young lions in the old Liberal party of Lester writing the script. PET really didn’t give a fig.
Skip, I was saying that the LEFT says people are inherently good, I was making the opposite case for good and evil in the world. Doug misread me, maybe I wasn’t clear enough.
Liz j “we must TOLERATE and cede to all comers”
I think you are getting close to the issue. You are correct; you don’t need to “tolerate “something you agree with, you can only tolerate something you don’t agree with.
I continue to maintain The Liberals have misused their messiah Trudeau for a new purpose, to Balkanize Ontario and it is working for them. As argued on an earlier thread even Trudeau acknowledged in the mid-90’s that multiculturalism is not working.
But the Libs, having lost their co-dependency weapon with the Bloc over votes in Quebec, cannot now admit what their messiah had said about multi-culti not working. Because they are totally dependent upon a “a divisive stew pot” for votes in mega-cities like Toronto.
