No, Canadian multiculturalism means that Canada is merely an empty space; you move to this new space and bring your old beliefs and behaviour with you.
Canada supports your retention of these old beliefs and behaviour, it funds you to remain intact as a group without change or integration. Furthermore, its Charter insists on your right and duty to retain them; its Charter even says that these group beliefs and behaviour trump any individual rights. And trump Canadian law, which must accomodate your old group beliefs and behaviour.
So, we get century-old enmities brought over and kept intact. Because these beliefs are defined as part of the ‘ethnic identity’ of the group.
We get a Toronto Muslim imam openly enabling polygamy and insisting that Islamic Sharia ‘law’ trumps Canadian law and that he will reject Canadian law in favour of his ‘religious’ law.
That’s what multiculturalism has done to Canada.

There’s an additional element to Canada’s ideology of multiculturalism – which defines Canada as merely a spatial site rather than a society.
Canada is understood as a hotel for groups to come and settle, but they are expected to bring their cultural beliefs and behaviour with them. This Hotel Canada supplies only the space; it has no rules and regulations of its own, no beliefs or behaviour.
Such an insistence on multiple freeze-dried populations, each separate and distinct, each maintaining this separation, many adversarial with each other – this certainly enabled the Liberal Party to maintain power in Ontario and the large cities, which are the site of immigration.
But there’s an enormous elitism and condescension to this attitude of multiculturalism.
First, it rejects any notion that the immigrant wants to develop a ‘better mode of life’; wants to modernize; wants to adapt and even collaborate with others. Mobile and flexible immigrants don’t function as that insecure voting bloc required by the Liberals.
But, there’s another facet of elitism to our multicltural policy – and it’s clear in the current Bouchard-Taylor Report. It’s the notion that we of the West alone have the ability to shed our cultural beliefs and behaviour. We alone have the intellectual freedom to change our cultural beliefs and behaviour.
We can send our historic past to the museum (they want the Quebec legislative cross to be sent to a musuem). We can drop our normative beliefs and behaviour. But the immigrants – ahhh, they are peasants, primitives. They don’t have this intellectual rigour and stamina and perception to see that their cultural beliefs/behaviour might be merely social constructs, historical appendages. They, primitive minds that they are, don’t have the intelligence to free themselves of their old symbols. They are, like slaves, bonded to these old icons.
We must be noble and tolerant, superior beings that we are, and ‘allow’ them to keep their old icons, symbols, myths and notions. They can’t change; they are peasants. We, the elite, we alone have the Power To Change. The immigrant peasants don’t…
So, multiculturalism is both a political strategy of the Liberals to establish dependent and faithful voting blocs. It’s also a superior, smug elitist theory of the left, clearly asserting their intellectual superiority over the mindless immigrant peasants.

Perhaps our message should be ‘if you want Canada to be the place you immigrated from, then stay there. We have our own rules of law and that supersedes any rules of law or beliefs you wish to foist upon the citizens of this country. Should you be able to accept that and live within its parameters, you are welcome here, if not, we don’t want you. No bogus refugee status, no bogus hardship stories, we’ve heard them all and are becoming immune to it. As is or try another country.

IMO this statement is only partially correct. The ring leaders of the “political left” are much more sophisticated than your giving them credit for. The actual belief is the opposite of what you say. Socialists believe that humans by nature are fundamentally flawed and evil. Only the guidance of the elite can prevent the injustices perpetrated by the sheeple. If you look deeper into it, the motivating factor is always “wage envy”. This group of elites feel hard done by because they make much less than their capitalist counterparts. This is the inherent injustice in the free market system, the laborers and workers are not as important as the directors; therefore, they are not entitled to greater benefits than their superiors.
I will agree with you statement WRT the large number of sheeple who vote for socialist parties. The socialist parties always offer the easiest solution, and this appeals to the intellectually lazy(deciding what shoes to wear is much more palatable).

I do understand what you are saying about the left. I have noted that their main proclivity is envy. The other is the inability to accept logic and fact.

I think the wage envy of the left is focused on the self-made entrepreneurial capitalist, not the worker. The economically free individual, ie, someone not operating within a govt job, or within a union, is considered highly dangerous by the left. He’s not dependent on that govt job, or that union.
Most immigrants are ‘workers’ and the leftist view of them is that they are intellectually inferior. This is based on their own elitism, of a certainty of their own intellectual superiority. The immigrant, the left feels, is intellectually inadequate and unable to free himself of his cultural icons. The leftist intellectual, on the other hand, as a ‘free thinker’ isn’t bound to any commitments (heh – forgetting their govt security jobs and unions).
As to whether the left views humankind as innately good or bad – I think it’s the former. The reason I chose the word worker is because that is what I consider myself, and I used laborer because some rig pigs make pretty good coin. Perhaps one day I may aspire to own my own business; but for now, I am content learning my craft where I am. I will defiantly challenge you on this. If the latter was the case, we wouldn’t need all of this governance to protect us from ourselves, there would be no political correctness required. The left is distinctly different from the right for this reason; the left is comprised of two groups 1) the elites and 2) the sheeple; whereas, the right is comprised of one group: everyone.

This is only the rallying cry that group 1) uses to motivate group 2). Group 2) is intellectually lazy (or as I say too busy picking what shoes to wear) and group 1) is aware of this, and depend on it. Canada is NOT a young country; Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Ireland, the Ukraine…are young countries. For more than half this century, Canada has been inviting people over here to live. Britain has passed it’s colonial guilt to the colonies and Canada bought the whole bill of goods. Most Canadians did not think that immigration would ever be a problem because we were all immigrants from some place in Europe or Asia and we had all learned how to ‘bury the hatchet’ and make a living by co-operating with each other.
By 1935 Canada had established a national character. We were independant, fierce fighters and self effacing because we had earned the right to be that way with a proud heritage to back up our quirks. When I was young (in the 1950’s) no Canadian hung their head in shame! My Dad and Mom owned land and cattle and their own house; we did not have indoor plumbing but we had horses to ride and lots of land to ride on; if an intruder came on to our property, my Dad had a shotgun and a rifle to back him up and Mom and his four kids (we all knew how to shoot!). We never had to shoot at anyone, our doors were never locked, or our gas barrel, or our vehicles (we always left the keys in vehicles so they wouldn’t get lost). Canadians were of sterling character; that all fell apart in 1968 … what happened in 1968? The selfish baby-boomers got the vote and Turdo won the top job in the country. Our free-wheeling independant citizens who forged a national character that attracted people of the same ilk was ripped apart and shredded in an agonizing generation of bribery (votes for welfare) and defrauding a nation of their rights and privileges as taxpaying citizens of Canada. When prime Minister Stephen Harper took over, the nation was lame and listless and on the brink of collapse, PMSH has brought back Canadian pride in themselves but we are not who we used to be…this incident in Edmonton is just the tip of the iceberg…the agenda driven Bolsheviks from all over the world who camped here at the expense of the honorable citizens of Canada will fight back like rats who jumped off a ship and nestled in a nice comfy fur in a place they should never have been allowed to occupy.

Most historians consider Vimy Ridge to be the defining event in Canadian history. Every country(that matters) has recognized our standing for nearly 100 years. Now we every undesirable in the world demanding equal status as soon as their feet hit the tarmac.

I don’t think any government, Harper’s included, can cure this disease without some bloodletting. I watched and listened to Monte Solberg, when he was immgration minister, claim that not a single immigrant gets through the system without thorough background checks. When he spit out such an obvious bald faced lie, I realized my vote doesn’t mean a damn thing. They’re all the same.
This incident was actually pretty minor by Edmonton standards. Nobody died or got curb stomped. If that had been West End Jamaicans arguing with North End Jamaicans there would have been multiple fatalities, mostly bystanders.
Canada’s official policy of multiculturalism provides no incentive whatsoever for immigrants or their descendants to leave behind cultural grievances. The main reason is that multiculturalism supplants what was once described as a national identity, that set of ideals which defines what it means to be Canadian. Without a strong national identity and an immigration policy that promotes Canadian ideals above all other cultures, we can expect situations like this to increase in severity and frequency as people self-ghettoize.
