About a month ago I got a call from a reporter for the Arkansas Times inquiring about my research into paramilitary drug raids. He’d been reporting on a raid in North Little Rock involving a 40-year-old man named Tracy Ingle. When he told me the story over the phone, I was floored….

A sad example of jack-booted morality, in the guise of ‘law and order’. If you think that bureaucrats are the only thing to grab onto your wallet and mark their time, consider the grab for cash that police use to enforce a ‘war’ against citizens.

First on TVO, where I was totally amazed at the circular logic employed against him:

Lance, using any tokens or is it just password? Freeradius should work out of the box with the PIX, but if you’re having to use RSA or Aladdin tokens, you’ll probably need to do some code work.
Mohammedan bloggeuse Dervish had a cryptic post about Salam Cafe, an Australian TV programme. I expected something along the lines of “Little Mosque in the Outback”. Instead, it’s some kind of talk and variety show. I’ve only viewed the first few minutes, but it seems relatively entertaining. Among the factoids gleaned so far: the Queen now provides dedicated prayer rooms at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace for Muslim employees.

Debate your feminist university professor could end up in a law suit.
She claims that her students violated her civil rights. She says student’s “anti-intellectualism” made her life a living hell. So, this ex-Dartmouth professor is threatening to sue her students for the temerity to have doubted her harebrained theories on “eco-feminism” and the “French narrative theory.”

BTW, here’s a partial transcript of a Steyn vs. Kinsella debate:
http://thejagwire.blogspot.com/2008/05/exclusive-steyn-vs-kinsella-debate.html
Yes, yes, THIS is EXACTLY what we pay our politicians our well-earned tax dollars to do. Ironically, it is of course EXACTLY the sort of thing that convinced Canadians to kick the Liberals out.
——————
Conservative MPs have taken to taunting Liberal Leader Stephane Dion every time he’s about to skate on to Parliament’s centre ice. They use members’ statements – which precede question period in the House of Commons each day – to indulge in psychological warfare apparently aimed at putting Dion off his game just as he’s about to rise to ask the first question of the day.
For example, St. Catharines Tory MP Rick Dykstra used his final statement Tuesday to accuse Dion of planning to spend billions, hike taxes and push the country into deficit.
“One person wants to bring this country and our economy to its knees,” Dykstra thundered in conclusion. “Who is that? It is the person who is about to stand up.” […]
The Tories must think it works. They’ve been employing the tactic steadily since about the beginning of April.
Members’ statements are intended to give MPs a chance to speak on any issue that strikes their fancy. Frequently, MPs showcase local worthies or special events in their ridings or expound on causes close to their hearts.
While they also frequently take partisan shots at political rivals, the Tories are unique in their systematic use of the final statement each day to knee-cap a party leader. Indeed, it often appears they’re following a script.
——————
And it’s only taken them 2 years to reach this level of arrogance, treating Parliament like it is their own playground, and running out of anything to run ON so having to run AGAINST the other side. (Funny, revealing side-note: there are more pictures of Dion than all other Conservatives including Harper on the first page of the Conservative’s website AND there is far more written about Dion than about what the Conservatives have done.)
Maybe Dion should whine incessantly about it and then sue them, but (a) he wouldn’t have the backbone to do even that and (b) he’d be accused of copying Conservative strategy.
Pete, no problems getting the PIX to talk to radius, as you say, out of the box once clients.conf is set up.
I’m upgrading one of the radius servers to the v2 series and that changes a lot of stuff.
We still have one running, and I’m using this one to grope my way through the new system. Virtual servers, aiyee!

Actually Ted, I don’t think it was the house antics that convinced Canadians to boot the Liberals out.
I think it was the stolen money.
Good to hear a Liberal admit Dion has no backbone though…you must not be getting enough of Cherniak’s Kool-aid.

“OTTAWA — Stéphane Dion is poised to unveil a carbon-tax scheme and attempt to neutralize any political damage by offering corresponding personal income tax cuts of between $10-billion and $13-billion to working Canadians, senior Liberal sources say.
The Liberal Leader wants this major environmental policy to be the centrepiece of the party’s election campaign platform, according to the sources, and is anxious to reveal it this summer to give Canadians a chance to digest the idea before a federal election.”
Like I said in the mop and pails comments section, this will hurt low income people. Sure income taxes will be cut, but what about those that pay no income taxes?
It works like this. Carbon tax would mean diesel is taxed more. In the transport industry there’s something called a fuel surcharge. The fuel surcharge kicks in more money whenever the cost of fuel rises.
So who would really pay for this increased transport cost? The consumer of course.
So take that low income, no tax earner. Now they’re paying even more for all the food they buy. How is this a good deal for them?
One thing missing in most discussions about petro pricing is that the feds take is a percentage – so if fuel prices rise, so does their take.
BTW, the GST is charged on the excise tax too – just in case the government missed taxing a tax.
Bend over people, and take it all.
This is, of course, required to keep the tens of thousands of civil servants busy shuffling paper, and the politicians with large enough budgets to buy particular constituencies.
Speaking of civil servants, Corocan is spot on today with the issue that takes courage to address, guaranteeing no ‘politician’ will ever mention it. Ever.
“The number of Canadians covered by defined-benefit pensions has fallen by 20% to 30% in recent years, with professional actuaries warning that the whole private side of the industry could eventually disappear, leaving only government employees with guaranteed pension incomes — paid for by taxpayers who are denied the same options.”

It’s a shame a ‘conservative’ government governs like a Liberal government.
Guess it’s cuz they share the same basic and essential similarity – they’re government.
Good point about the GST, would it tax the carbon tax as well?

If they want to look at “bad” spouses then why don’t they examine the wife of a former Liberal PM. I lived near Whistler when they got married. She was a “snow bunny” (for want of a better term or mayby it was “pin cushion”) at Whistler. She eventually was photographed in some magazine exposing her “twat” for all to see. Wow, what an impressive first lady we had in Canada.
So if Dion wants to examine old girlfriends/wives perhaps he should look in the Liberals past.

Violence against women is being tackled at the international level as a human rights issue. Last year the special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions was criticized by a coalition of member countries for including honor killings in her report, and a resolution condemning honor killings failed to pass.
My favorite line: “But the politics of women’s rights can be complex.”
How is treating 1/2 of the world’s human population as equals complicated?

“A tiny, miraculous nation – a beacon of hope for all
NY Daily News ^ | May 09 2008 | Dr. RUTH WESTHEIMER
On Sept. 10, 1945, I landed in Palestine. Why was I there? The truth is, I didn’t really have any other place to go. I’d lost my entire family to the Nazis so it was unthinkable to go back to Germany. I’d found safety in Switzerland, but once the war was over, all the refuges there had to find a different homeland. The United States was a place I dreamed of, but getting there was an impossibility. But the Jews were founding a new state in Palestine where I was not only wanted, but needed.
I went to a kibbutz, a collective farm, called Ayanot. About 300 people lived there growing olives, oranges, apples, grapes, grapefruits and tomatoes. Life was hard. I shared a tent with three men. I was forced to drop my German name, Karola, and took my middle name, Ruth. But at 17, I was a true believer, a Zionist, and I did my share willingly.
When the time came to fight for Israel’s freedom, I joined the Haganah, the freedom fighters. I was trained as a sniper, and, while I was an excellent sharpshooter, I never actually shot at anyone.
Then, on my 20th birthday, during an air raid, instead of going straight to the shelter, I went to get one of my presents, a book. As a result, when a bomb went off, I was severely wounded. I almost lost both legs but I was lucky, as several people around me died.
On June 4, I turn 80.”

Comment at Jack’s Newswatch:
“# Gabby in QC Says:

Here’s the comment I posted at the Chronicle Herald site:
«From your article:
“Mary Dawson, an appointee of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s …”
By pointing out who appointed Ms. Dawson, you are intimating there is some bias or lack of impartiality in Ms. Dawson’ s decision.
Perhaps you are not aware of Ms. Dawson’s previous work. From Wiki: “Mary Dawson played an important role in relation to constitutional matters. She was the final drafter for the patriation package (Constitution Act, 1982) and until her retirement drafted, and was the principal legal advisor for, all Constitutional amendments, including the Meech Lake Accord and the Charlottetown Accord. She led the legal team for the Government of Canada on the Quebec Secession Reference and was responsible for the legal advice on, and drafting of, the Clarity Act. Mary Dawson also managed the Supreme Court Reference on same-sex marriage for the Government of Canada as well as the preparation of the related legislation. She advised extensively in the area of aboriginal rights.”
It seems to me her credentials are impeccable, not partisan as you suggest. And lest you think this is a “paid political announcement” the only reason I know about Ms. Dawson’s background is because I saw a documentary about her on CPAC, and was impressed by her accomplishments.
I will not deny, however, I am a committed supporter of the Conservative Party. Not that there’s anything wrong with that ….»
Although my comment got through, the part about Ms. Dawson’s credentials, citing her work on the Constitution, were deleted.

Here is something else not getting any National media coverage: Mr. Dingwall’s (and Canada Post’s) refusal to say what Dingwall did to merit being paid nearly $300,000. So where are the outraged Liberal cries for a public enquiry? I think the public deserves to know what was involved in such a deal.
