Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker formed the band Cream in 1966 in London. They were celebrated as the first great power trio and supergroup of rock, and have sold over 35 million albums worldwide. Their 1968 album Wheels of Fire was the world’s first platinum-selling album.
From Wheels of Fire, our selection tonight is White Room, in which lyricist Pete Brown groups colorful four-syllable phrases, loosely organized around images of waiting in an English train station. The combination is often considered one of the shining moments in British psychedelia. White Room is further noted for its unusual time signature of 5/4 in the introduction and bridge, with triplets played on toms by Ginger Baker. Finally, White Room is notable for showcasing one of guitarist Eric Clapton’s best known use of the wah-wah pedal, in the bridge and extended solo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iZwHjfev-o

Stiglitz Blames Greenspan For Recession http://tinyurl.com/2ejgh3
It’s crunch time kids! In this Bloomberg news interview former World Bank chief economist and Nobel economics recipient Jos. Stiglitz states that the US economy is already in “recession” and that war costs on the deficit, inflated monetary policy and credit melt down going into established areas of the economy were to blame. Stiglitz also stated that Greenspan was on watch as this happened and he actively looked the other way as others directed disastrous economic policy at the Fed.
Stiglitz has a history of speaking truth to power when he exposed the corruption within the IMF cartel in 2001….get that investment cash out of US dollar based investment kids, and get ready for the worst and longest downturn in 30 years.
This is what passes for intelligent commentary, worthy of publication as part of a news story, in the left wing Toronto Star today:
“”This poor woman has a Ph.D and can’t find a decent job. She is hungry and desperate. So what if she sent him 200 emails? People from those warm-blooded cultures are more emotional and verbose. We think with our hearts,” said Jacobson, 55, a South Asian Jew.”
As opposed to people from cold-blooded cultures who think differently?
I would imagine the Star is pretty selective about what kind of racist comments it publishes, selecting only those that fit their political agenda.
Have any of you posters got the feeling I am getting from the MSM, now emphasised with Flaherty’s very good budget, that the Liberals are really in charge and are being painted as big daddy once again letting the little child have its day in the sun but watching closely to see it doesn’t make to many mistakes? This subliminal message is being driven home to Canadians across the country by the MSM as a constant theme.
I have written another letter to the National Newswatch, for all the good it will do, stating why was Dion’s picture and statement featured in their lead article rather than our Minister of Finance and again in today’s feature articulating how he will let this budget pass. It pisses me off and I know we discussed this many times of SDA but I wish we could do something other that writing letters.
Marianne Meed Ward, a Toronto Sun columnist and Liberal candidate in the last election, responded to my letter on last Sunday’s column where she blamed Harris for Ontarians not having a doctor and for hospital shortages. I quoted her colleague Greg Weston’s column, hardly a Conservative supporter, where he states Bob Rae cut the slots in medical school and closed whole wings of hospitals. Her reply was “I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree on how best to move the province and country we love forward. I’ll choose the Liberal plan every time”. Facts do not enter into the emotion of a liberal. Also as she states no one or party will ever, ever have a better solution than the Liberals, slight bias anyone!
A quick visit to http://www.caircan.ca will reveal that they are demanding a full police investigation into the defacing of an election sign with the word ‘paki’ and a sexually explicit drawing. You’re right about Bob Rae Dave, he did exactly that. The Liberals cut funding to Healthcare then generously gave back about half what they took out.

This is Kinswilsueya’s way of explaining why his blog is trailing far behind other more popular blogs such as SDA. He forgot to mention the only reason anyone reads his blog, is to make fun of him, and use it as fodder for jokes.

“I have written another letter to the National Newswatch, for all the good it will do, etc, etc.”
While National has gained a place as a blog aggregator , we still do not know the principals involved in the site.
One has to wonder why that is.
MS dead tree media uses nuanced and outright misleading HEADLINES to colour their stories, knowing the effect it carries on readers.
Do sharp blog aggregators do the same?
Hiding the identities of the principals involved is not in the best interests of the readers and visitors of those sites, in my view.
Another point to consider in this whole discussion that hasn’t been mentioned it the sorry state of disrepair that alot of these big vehicles are in traveling on the highways. Traffic enforcement cannot even begin to do an adequate job of monitoring the safety of the huge numbers of these rigs out there. When was the last time you saw a road-side check stop that looks at the safety of big rigs? Been at least a year ago for me and I travel quite a bit.
Thousands of NHS doctors have retired with pension pots worth more than £1million, a report revealed yesterday.
Almost 8,500 are benefiting from gold-plated retirement funds – worth £33,000 a year – paid for by the taxpayer.
And that figure will rise “dramatically” in future….
A TaxPayers’ Alliance study found that the liabilities for doctors who have already retired have reached £8.5billion….
Every household will have to pay up to £40,000 over the next few decades to fund gold-plated retirement benefits for public sector employees, including £1million pension pots for the NHS elite…. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=518452&in_page_id=1770

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., the U.S. government agency that protects the pensions of 44 million American workers in case their employers can’t (or won’t) pay promised benefits, has announced that to avoid going bust it will double the percentage of its portfolio — to 45% — that it puts into stocks. An additional 10% will go into alternative investments, including hedge funds.
In other words, facing a $14 billion deficit and even larger projected shortfalls, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., or PBGC, decided not to save (by raising premiums) or to live within its means (by cutting benefits) but to gamble in the financial markets by taking on more risk…. http://finance.sympatico.msn.ca/Investing/JimJubak/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=6342545
Africa: A Tragic Continent
by Walter E. Williams
President Bush’s trip to Africa and promise of increased foreign aid will do little or nothing to solve the ongoing tragedy in most places on the south-of-Sahara African continent.
Kenya is on the brink of a civil war. Over 1,000 people have been killed and another 300,000 made homeless. Rebels have invaded Chad. In the Darfur region of the Sudan, millions of people have been displaced in a genocidal war. Ethiopia and Eritrea threaten war again. Somalian warlords are in a pitched battle. Zimbabwe, once an independent, thriving jewel on the continent, now ruled by a tyrant, is on the brink of disaster, experiencing a 66,000 percent rate of inflation, expected to be over 100,000 percent by year’s end. To put that inflation in perspective, the government has recently started printing 10 million Zimbabwe dollar notes. A hamburger sells for 15 million Zimbabwe dollars.
The recent African carnage is by no means new. During a 100-day period in 1994, an estimated 800,000 Rwandans, mostly Tutsis, were killed. There were an estimated 100,000 to 500,000 Ugandans murdered under the brutal rule of Idi Amin. Liberia, Ivory Coast and the Congo have been racked by war, and slavery exists to this day in Mauritania and Sudan. Added to this carnage is gross corruption, AIDS, famine and repression. http://tinyurl.com/2fz3an (humanevents)

“There’s nothing like sitting in a home-made sauna, built by a mad Finn in the tropics to remind him of home, with the temperature turned up so high that the pitch is bubbling out of the pinewood and dripping on your hair. Then running out when you can stand no more and leaping into a swimming pool, much to the consternation of the local househelp, who can never quite get used to the antics of the mad foreigners. And then to stagger back to the bar and buddy up to a German consultant so drunk he is toasting to the Fuhrer’s health and greets you as his favorite untermensch.
And then to go out into Third World night and watch the children asleep on the street unaware that the angels who are meant to guard them are forever barred from their simple dreams.” http://tinyurl.com/29ekga
“Stiglitz Blames Greenspan For Recession”. Ha! Their forecasting record is appalling. Solid move to bet against Stiglitz. Dropping US dollar increases in the dollar value of everything. Including stocks. Sovereign wealth funds will continue to exchange dollars for US assets to liquidate their dollar reserves. Double whammy pushing up stocks. Probably relative gains significantly less than other assets. Commodities for example. Diamonds. Metals. But higher is the direction when you devalue a currency. Look at the Zimbabwe stock market for an extreme example.
Doesn’t mean Greenspan wasn’t an idiot. He was. Before he became Fed Chief he was an economic forecaster with, er… what’s the word…… a horrific forecasting record. Blunder after blunder. Demonstrating consistency, he swallowed Y2K whole, created a mountain of money setting off the Internet stock boom. And collapse. When inflate or die is the choice…. inflate is the easier choice for those who draw their salaries from Government.
I’ve just heard it again! The Liberals are hoping for a downturn in the economy and “some more casualties in Afghanistan”, to increase their support in this country. Isn’t that pathetic? How sick is that?
JM – While I’m sure that your heart is in the right place … I know that your assumptions are crap.
Case 1 – British doctors on NHS pensions!
– 33,000/yr is NOT a large pension for a physician or for any professional earning low to mid 6 figure salaries, although the impact on Taxpayers is obvious and should be accounted for by government
– Canada DOES NOT HAVE an NHS and Doctors are responsible for their own wealth management and retirement savings….NO National pension for Docs in Canada!!
Case 2 – PBGC …. when you are in the business of investing and managing risk and are faced with potential shortfalls or losses…. the FIRST strategy you need to look at is rebalancing investment and risk … this only seems counterintuitive to those who think that pulling a turtle move will fix the problem. Although both options of raising premiums and cutting benefits sound good …. they are restricted to PBGC under the operating regulations … hence the FIRST action open is the new investment.
We should hope they do better with these ones thought eh?

“SOUNDING THE CLIMATE CHANGE ALERT…IN 1958
Ah, YouTube, how did I ever entertain myself before you came into my life? This week I was browsing around the video site searching on various environment-related terms when I came across what turns out to be a favorite clip of the Al Gore “Inconvenient Truth” crowd. It’s a snippet from an educational film from 1958 called “The Unchained Goddess”, and you kind of have to see it to believe it.
Produced by Frank Capra for the Bell Telephone Company and featuring the voice talents of none other than Mel “Bugs Bunny” Blanc, this informative yet witty film, clearly aimed at audiences averaging age 14, succinctly explains how global warming could lead to a rise in sea levels that could put Miami under 150 feet of water. Cue the images of the crumbling glaciers!”Man may be unwittingly changing the world’s climate through the waste products of his civilization,” says the tweed-suited narrator. Indeed! How funny for those of us who never really gave climate change a thought until five years ago to realize that at least one person was panicking about it 50 years ago. http://climate.weather.com/blog/9_14889.html

…we will fight the war on terror less effectively if we continue to harbor mistaken assumptions about the al Qaeda network. It is important not to overstate what the terror group’s leadership needs to do to remain relevant. Even if the central leadership’s role is limited to connecting terrorist nodes–pairing skill sets, financing, and operatives–it can transform terrorist groups from disunited regional problems into cohesive adversaries capable of threatening Western societies. Moreover, the safe havens that al Qaeda’s leaders have gained in recent years magnify their lethal capabilities…
Melanie Phillips on global warming: World saved! (Again)
So you might think that the news that the world isn’t frying after all would be all over the media. World saved! That’s a helluva story, surely. Or alternatively, if apocalyptic millenarianism is something you just can’t live without, that we are all about to freeze to death in a new ice age!

Women and Nation-Building
This study examines gender-specific impacts of conflict and post-conflict and the ways in which events in these contexts may affect women differently than they affect men. It analyzes the roles of women in the nation-building process and considers outcomes that might occur if current practices were modified. The recent nation-building activities in Afghanistan are used as a case study… Gender issues have been overtly on the table from the beginning of U.S. post-conflict involvement in Afghanistan, in part because of the Taliban’s equally overt prior emphasis on gender issues as a defining quality of its regime…

Stephane Dion supports a Conservative beer-and-popcorn budget that hurts the Liberal Party
The Tax-Free Savings Account is a brilliant Conservative idea that ought to have sent every red-blooded Liberal screaming in hysterics: {…]
That fundamental difference in the way Conservatives and Liberals perceive the voters made for one of the most memorable moments from the 2006 election.
No, screamed one Liberal strategist. You can’t just give money to Canadian parents. Those fools will spend the money on beer and popcorn!
Or words to that effect.
Well, now we have the ability to sock money away, $5000 a year, and more in years going forward. Earnings on those savings is tax-free. If we remove the money, the infusion of cash into our income stream for that year is ignored by the government. Moving money out doesn’t affect the ability to put money back in.
In other words, Canadians are getting tax shelters. The government is vacating a space in the economy for all of us to use as we see fit, a space that will grow larger year by year.
So what’s the catch? Can I only use the money to pay for university? Or to buy a green car? Or to put my kids in French immersion classes?
No. No. No.
If I want to use the money to buy a gas-guzzling SUV and use the left-over cash to fill my monster with beer and popcorn, that’s just fine.
I can buy smokes and head down to the casino to lose the rest at the slots.
Or I can give it all to the David Suzuki Foundation.
Whatever I want. It’s my money! It’s none of the government’s business what I do with my money.
That is a Conservative notion. It is a fundamentally Conservative notion that changes people’s attitudes towards money and the government. …- http://stevejanke.com/archives/256557.php

“LEICESTER — Police here in central England seized a collection of porcelain pigs from a house’s window sill after Muslims complained that they were offensive.
“I just couldn’t believe it, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry,” Mrs Nancy Bennett, the owner of the 17 miniature pigs, told the Sun tabloid newspaper.
The porcelain figures were held at the local police station, while Mrs Bennett was threatened with prosecution if she replaces the collection. Her house is located in the same street as the city’s main mosque, meaning that Muslim worshippers often passed by her front window where the pig figurines were on display. ”
Obama’s women reveal his secret
By Spengler
“Cherchez la femme,” advised Alexander Dumas in: “When you want to uncover an unspecified secret, look for the woman.” In the case of Barack Obama, we have two: his late mother, the went-native anthropologist Ann Dunham, and his rancorous wife Michelle. Obama’s women reveal his secret: he hates America.
America is not the embodiment of hope, but the abandonment of one kind of hope in return for another. America is the spirit of creative destruction, selecting immigrants willing to turn their back on the tragedy of their own failing culture in return for a new start. Its creative success is so enormous that its global influence hastens the decline of other cultures. For those on the destruction side of the trade, America is a monster. Between half and nine-tenths of the world’s 6,700 spoken languages will become extinct in the next century, and the anguish of dying peoples rises up in a global cry of despair. Some of those who listen to this cry become anthropologists, the curators of soon-to-be extinct cultures; anthropologists who really identify with their subjects marry them. Obama’s mother, the University of Hawaii anthropologist Ann Dunham, did so twice.
Obama profiles Americans the way anthropologists interact with primitive peoples. He holds his own view in reserve and emphatically draws out the feelings of others …
Better yet:
He has the empathetic skill set of an anthropologist who lives with his subjects, learns their language, and elicits their hopes and fears while remaining at emotional distance. That is, he is the political equivalent of a sociopath. The difference is that he is practicing not on a primitive tribe but on the population of the United States.

Iranian freedom from Islam riot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByUqnnx1Wfs&eurl=http://ibloga.blogspot.com/
A riot broke out in Tehran on the weekend when the Iranian Chastity Police attempted to arrest a young woman they said was inappropriately dressed.Witnesses say the young woman resisted arrest, which caused the police to push and beat her.
The sight of the woman being beaten prompted a bystander to come to her aid, but he was also roughed-up by the security forces.
Dozens of Iranians who were present at the scene began rioting and setting rubbish on fire.
The riot was captured on numerous cell-phone cameras and shows people shouting slogans against the police and government.
The crowed reportedly called out against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Efforts by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Chastity Police to enforce the Islamic dress code on Iranian women has caused thousands of women to be detained for failing to uphold the dress code.
There’s some interesting comments from Iranians:

The new program, named after former governor-general, diplomat and war hero Georges Vanier and outlined in yesterday’s budget, will give 500 PhD students from Canada and abroad $50,000 annually for up to three years. It will be funded initially with a $25-million investment over two years.

Dave @ 8:34 am –

And then to go out into Third World night and watch the children asleep on the street unaware that the angels who are meant to guard them are forever barred from their simple dreams.”

I think that still holds — but should she accept a Liberal nomination I think that pretty much undermines the credibility of the justice system.
