Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. On December 7 last, listener Mad Mike wrote in to request that we play Beat me, daddy, eight-to-the-bar. So without further ado, here’s “Videoklip k písni Beat me, daddy, eight-to-the-bar, nalézt ho můžete na CD Nejlepší kusy z repertoiru Ondřeje Havelky a jeho Melody Makers”:

Thanks, V. A good one. Anyone else dance to that in their teens?
I wonder why people still even pay any attention to Jason Cherniak. His comments are often childish or just plain wrong. He regularily censors comments. Its not as if he has lots of comments as he usually has the same half dozen commentors (as compared to this blog that exceeds 100 on a regular basis(and last week went over 300)
Like, who cares??
Horny Toad
So, like, why are you paying attention to him? I’m not. I don’t care. Why do you?
Remember when the Clintons went to New Zealand, and Hillary came out with that whopper about being named after Sir Edmund? (Never mind that he was an obscure beekeeper who wouldn’t become famous until Hilly was six years old.)
Well, it seems that Barack Obama’s parents had the gift of time travel as well:
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=19959
The article is almost a year old, and few if any paid attention to it at the time. (I never even heard this one until yesterday.) But things have changed, and Obama is no longer just another rookie Senator blowing smoke to a bunch of the Party faithful in a church in the South. This sort of nose-stretcher could provide some fun in the next few months.
I wonder how many more like it are out there?
What about all the GM Allison transmissions that bit the dust when it was -40. My wife was afraid to start her truck on a couple of mornings so just let it sit in the drive way. We just used my Toyota Prius when it was really cold. I heard those who experienced it would go out and start their $50/60 thousand dollar truck to warm it up and come out 20 minutes later with the tranmission fluid on the ground and the truck immovable. 17 units in Peace River and 20 units in Whitecourt in my limited dealings with dealerships. That would mean millions of dollars in vehicles are sitting waiting for transmission parts because of the cold weather in Western Canada. The solution if you heard about the problem before you became part of it and didn’t use your vehicle when it was cold was to ‘reprogram your transmission’.

“”Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.
Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.
(…)
Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if they are requested for service in Canada. “We don’t know the answers because the government doesn’t want to even announce the plan,” he said.””
Maybe the US wants to get even with us for burning down Washington the first time in 1814?
Looks like Canadians would be happy with either Dion or Harper to lead the country, well according to Nicker Nanos in his latest poll.
So better stop dissing Dion, appears there are enough people OUT THERE who think he could LEAD the country.

CBC: The Border
Canadian soldiers are held hostage while terrorists plan an attack on Toronto.
(Well that’s how Bob Cole described it on HNIC last night; the web site uses the word “militants.”
Great line though: “Kessler believes the key to preventing the attack may lie with an unlikely source – Sorrayya, a burqa-clad wife and mother.”
Boy, have they ever not been paying attention).
So it’s “terrorists” when Toronto is attacked, “militants” otherwise.
Suggested contest: come up with your own name for terrorists that would attack Toronto and presumably CBC world headquarters.

“Probe Shifts to Restaurant in Fatal Food Poisoning (China)
(SHENZHEN) – Health authorities in south China’s Shenzhen city have identified sodium nitrite as the cause of a mass food poisoning that left two people dead and 61 people in hospital on Saturday.”
“”We knew that the restaurant had poor hygiene, but its food was cheap, so we liked to have lunch there,” said Wei Tangwei, one of the 19 people who were still hospitalized.”

WLMK – this bilateral troop initiative was actually started several years ago with Chretien, with him providing for the access of American troops to Canadian soil. I’m not sure it was bilateral at that time. It was widely believed at that time that the initiative was to provide for ground support in Canada during a “terrorist” attack, which Canada may not have sufficient military resources to deal with.
The alternate explanation (and widely held view) was that Liberals were not going to invest in armed forces because in a pinch, they did not believe the CF would remain loyal to the Liberals in power, and that the govt (read: the Liberals) may require the assistance of a broader force in order to remain in authority. This was seen as being exacerbated by the very large component of CF of Quebecois origin and materiel.
W.L.,
“Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command…”
If I’m not mistaken, an additional 2000 US troops are heading to Afghanistan to bolster Canadian troops and to be put under Canadian command.
Len, there is an alternative to GM and related automatic transmission problems….

too bad about the current GM owners problems.

ANOTHER REASON NOT TO WATCH THE OSCARS (comments from actress Julie Christie)
http://thechronicleherald.ca/Entertainment/1039941.html
Christie said she attended the luncheon due in large part to her longtime affection for Canada, but said that her ardour has been tarnished thanks to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
“I love Canada, I’ve always loved Canada, I feel proud of Canada — it’s only just now that I am starting to lose my pride in Canada because of this guy who is your prime minister,” said Christie.
The British actress, a longtime peace activist, accused Harper of refusing to welcome traumatized American soldiers to Canada who are deserting the army amid the prolonged and bloody war in Iraq.
“I was in Canada in the 1960s and 1970s . . . the place was full of war resisters and they were accepted by Canada and I’ve loved Canada ever since then. The fact that he’s turned that around, and the cruelty of that and the meanness of it, it’s put a little edge on my love of Canada.”

The only poll I consider even close to valid, in an election campaign that is, Nanos, has Grits and Tories in dead heat. Big deal, an election will make voters choose, something the really don’t have to do right now. Here is a telling quote, IMO:
“What’s driving the Conservative vote is the policy initiatives Stephen Harper is undertaking,” Nanos said. “What’s driving the Liberal vote is not Stephane Dion — it is the tradition of voting Liberal.”
Imagine an election campaign of Harper policies versus Dion charisma and Liberal tradition. Hmm, I wonder which will prevail?
Plus, the NDP, Bloc and Greens would be nipping at Liberal heels. Nanos says Grits have about 19% hardcore support, with 33% preference. Every time Dion opens his mouth, Grit vote drops. That’s what will happen in an election.
The Liberal head shed knows that; that’s why they don’t want election. If they honestly thought Grits could grow their vote beyond their core, rather than see it bleed off, wouldn’t we be in an election campaign right now?

The liberals wariness of our armed forces is justified, they are not well liked or trusted by the military.
Polls should be taken with a grain of salt. Not only is there a built in bias by how you frame the question(s) but also the following:
Telephone surveys can be biased by what time of day the questions are posed. On line surveys are remarkable for their swings from early morning conservative bias to mid-day liberal swing to a return to a more conservative tendency at night apparently coinciding with the average working day.
Women are also more apt to pick up the phone than men in the average household.
Hamas Planning to Storm Gaza Border
There are signs that Hamas may be preparing to attempt a “human wave” attack on the border between Gaza and Israel, similar to their successful storming of the Egyptian border wall: Israel prepares for mass protests at Gaza border.
And they’re releasing children from school so they can be on the front line. …-

Dion’s ditched ‘progressive opposition’: Layton

Taliban Jack Layton-NDP has booted/expelled Citoyen Dion from the socialist camp.
It’s Taliban Jack’s own bloodless version of: Hitler’s Night of the Long Knives wherein Brown Shirt socialist Roehm and his buggers died/Stalin’s murder of his rival, Kirov.
Taliban Jack, as Napoleon did, has seized the crown; however, Taliban Jack can’t find a head to wear it. Layton’s head had exploded* years before in 1999.
The key word is the code word: “progressive”, aka socialist.

*Taliban Jack: “”Until Montréal, most of the discussion was introspective,” Layton recalled in 1999. “Then the massacre happened, and it got us off our butts. My head exploded that year.”
Climate change causes mental illness!
The question, of course, is on which side of the political spectrum?
“The heat wave of 2003, when temperatures in the northern hemisphere reached the highest on record, killed up to 35,000 people – 2,000 of them in the UK. Last summer’s floods have been shown to increase rates of mental illness.”
