    About your kind remarks about the Ron Paul supporters.
    A friend sent me a puff piece from CBS blog on the Hitler Youth, aka Ron Paul Supporters, and their cult-like activity in Iowa.
    Realize that these Hitler Youth — mostly boys in liberal arts — are actively questioning the US role in WW2 — perhaps the most cut and dried moral issue in world history. Their cult leader, believe or not, is actively debating the Civil War of 140 years ago.
    These cultists pretend to be concerned about limited government and the constitution, but if you learn to listen carefully — just as you must always read between Islam’s lines — you will find two basic themes: All the world’s problems are due to American behaviour and esp. its alliance with Israel. They do their hard-left-un-reconstructed hippie profs proud.
    Ron Paul is a neo-isolationsit — a weird cross between Pat Buchanan and Naom Chomsky. A barking mad anti-Semite and Blame America freakoid; and of course a great Kerryish hypocrite: he votes for the pork before he votes against the pork, but gets the pork for his constituents. For 10 terms in a row.
    I’m a libertarian by the way!

    BTW, in that little puff piece the writer mentioned how polite they were — for example going across the street and observing silence so as not to disturb a MSM crew doing a spot, and not responding to other RP supporters going by in cars in deference to same crew. The whole piece was sweetness and light — polite, earnest, idealistic youth. My a**.
    The thing is: I just couldn’t reconcile it with these kinds of video clips NOR the on-line vandalism they engaged in — gaming all those internet polls and using anonymizer websites to hide their repeat votes. Not the kind of behaviour I expect of libertarians concerned with the constitution, free speech and the rule of law.

    You’ve nailed the key themes including his getting on, quietly and INCREMENTALLY with the job of redeemeing Canada. I have to confess I was losing my patience early on until I got that incrementalism is the only sane way to reverse two generations of servitude.
    AND his wife: motorcycles and kittens! Heh, my two favourite things; but alas! I’m no longer allowed to have cats after two Bengals nearly wrecked our home before being re-located to a farm!

    Maybe Warren desperately wants to get back in the clique again. Maybe the private sector isn’t as good as it should be.

    I’m a HUGE fan of Alec Guinness. He quite detested the fact that he was better known (but not that he was rich!) for the Star Wars role of Obi Wan than for his other, much more substantial oeuvre.
    However, in that vein, I can’t help thinking, “Help us, PMSH, you’re our only hope”!

  14. Re the January 3rd Rex Murphy “outing” of the Canadian Human (sic) Rights Gulags—er, Commissions—re Macleans and Mark Steyn: over at the CBC “The National Archives”, I read every one of the 195 (or so) responses to Mr. Murphy’s fine and bold opinion piece.
    It was heartening to note that 145 supported Murphy, while only 47 were opposed. (There were about three responses of indeterminate position.) Honestly, the postings by those who opposed Mr. Murphy were sophomoric, and ignorant in the extreme: most were sent by people with Muslim names. I knew that SOME Muslims COULD—does that exempt me from HRC per/pro-secution?—be tricky, two-faced, and dangerous. But here, they also demonstrated sheer stupidity.
    Two other things I noticed: i) The earlier postings were more anti-Murphy than the later ones, which were overwhelmingly in his favour. ii) Many of the anti-Murphy postings were eerily alike. E.g., In common, was the following IDENTICAL WORDING by A.Q. Mufti (January 5, 2008 @ 04:53 p.m.) and Javed Akbar (January 5, 2008 @ 04:22 p.m.):
    “I am a regular viewer of CBC TV and listener of CBC Radio. In my opinion CBC is doing a great service to Canadians in bringing unbiased (mostly) [sic] coverage of national and international issues.
    “On January 3, the National ran a ‘Point of View’ segment, in which Rex Murphy strongly criticized a group of law students who have brought human rights complaints against Maclean’s Magazine.
    “This is an issue that has catapulted into one of national concern. Firstly, based merely on the media attention it has garnished appearing in every major newspaper and secondly because of the nature of the debate it raises. This debate focuses on issues such as, media responsibility freedom of speech, and the role of human rights commissions.
    “It therefore, deserves more than a one-sided, three-minute, splashy ‘comment’ by Rex Murphy. We need, as Canadians, to have a proper debate on these issues which affect us all.     A.Q. Mufti also said, “I am confident, the management of CBC (TV and Radio) would do its utmost to uphold the Canadian values of freedom of speech and give its viewers a chance to see the other side of the coin.” Right . . . and
    GAG. I’m a pro-life, observant Christian Canadian of British extraction, whose family has been here for over 200 years and was instrumental in the implementation of Responsible Government in 1837. Lately, as in the last three decades, has the CBC done “its utmost to uphold the Canadian values of freedom of speech and give[n] its viewers a chance to see the other side of the coin” regarding people like me? Nope.
    So who the heck do these “Ali Come Latelys” think they are? More equal than the rest of us? Hmm . . . I think I know the answer to that one.

  15. Mark Stein was referring to a statement made by an Imam in Switzerland who stated Muslims were breeding like Mosquitoes is the story.
    What is appalling is an individual like Professor Elmasry gets away with saying all Jews over 18 were fair game for killing, No Human Rights complaints against him, he’s Muslim. It wasn’t his first offense either, he has made controversial statements before.
    Why are we so damned stupid as to tolerate this crap in a Country that still has freedom of speech but draws the line on “hate speech” is the question.
    What Elmasry said was over the line, what Stein did was use a quote by an Imam.
    This should be tossed out pronto.

    Are we to believe Steffi did it all on his own?

    How did expensive tech camera equipped cell phones become such a cheap commodity so quickly.
    Hypothesis; They were first sold under rich government contract for covert use. R&D fully paid for, they become publicly available when the covert quality wore off.

    Is this supposed to be a joke? It’s certainly got all the elements of one, except the humour.
    Do you have the faintest clue of how electronics are made? Adding a feature like a CCD camera or enough memory to hold a bunch of tunes costs a few dollars at most. The fab plants over in the far East are so sophisticated nowadays, they can get a few hundred prototypes out in a couple of weeks, once they get a design, and they get the bugs out so fast, they can start producing thousands in less than a month.
    Do you have the faintest clue of how cellphones are marketed? You don’t pay anywhere near the actual cost of the phone, so long as you lock yourself into a plan for 2-3 years. The phone companies will subsidize the hardware because they know you probably won’t leave after the initial contract is up. My Bell plan costs me about $600/yr before taxes. That’s over $3,000 in the five years I’ve been with them. I lost my phone recently, and when I went for a replacement, Bell gave it to me for free, if I agreed to extend my contract for 2 more years.
    Finally, why don’t you wander down to Future Shop or Best Buy, and price out 42″ plasmas? When I worked with AT&T Canada, we had four or five of these up in our Network Operations Centre, monitoring the status of lines and switches across the country. They were over $10,000 a piece. Now you can get them for just over $1,000, and that’s in just five years.
    I was watching CNBC today, and they were reporting live from the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. A GPS system in a watch? A portable DVD player with 13-hour battery life for $200? Don’t you get the new economics? Manufactured stuff will get cheaper and cheaper; it’s stuff that you can’t force faster production upon that will get more expensive – like food, health care, and other personal services. I’m expecting to see $5,000 cars from China in a few years; I’m also expecting to see $4 loaves of bread, and $9.99/lb ground beef. The world is changing, my friend. Get on the bus.

  22. I believe a metal is in order. I watched an entire episode (one full hour) of CBC’s new hit drama Border. I admit I changed the channel three times because Ithought I could not longer ‘take it’, but I perserved and watched the enire program. For those of you who were watching paint dry or other important activities I will give you a synopsis. Americans are evil. CSIS is controlled by a deputy minister who lurks around in dark places such a limo’s with blacked out windows or back alleys. Americans are evil. One out of every two terrorist suspects are innocent but we send them to Syria to be tortured anyway. And you guessed it, Americans are evil. Based on the previews for nexts week’s episode the plot is: Americans are evil, Americans are corrupt, and Americans are evil. Move over American screenwriters guild there’s a new kid in town.

    This Motorola E815 cell phone is a well designed delight. The battery service lasts a week and the performance in weak signal areas is top of the line. Other E815 owners in user forums rave about them too. Bell seems fair enough. Avoid Rogers at all costs.
    $5K cars from China, yes I am aware and that will shake up the market along with $2500 Euro vans that run on compressed air made by Tata motors – India.

    You can get a working Quartz watch at the EFADS dollar store $1, and I just bought beautiful chronograph watch [2 year warr.] with a Rolex type bracelet, big box store clearance for $12. Polished nickel and stainless. Looks like a $2k watch. = TG
