All in all, this might be a good decision by the COC because the NDP candidate in Swift Current is an oilfield worker who is built like a linebacker and is considering doing his best Jesus in the temple impersonation.

Potts is a malcontent and sh** disturber from a long time back, He and Brad have a long history going back to at least high school in Swift, debate club, model UN etc. He has changed political philosophy more times than he can probably remember and has just gotten nastier and more irrational as time went on. I new him well at one time, he used to have a respect for rational discourse that obviously evaporated when he siezed on leftist politics. He’s mad at the world because he doesn’t get the resepct he thinks he derseves.

There is only one outcome to the unfounded accusations. More votes for Brad. The NDP is about to be crushed, they know it. Condider it a “Kamikaze” mission where the pilot is Jeff Potts, and he misses the target and hits a shithouse full of socialsists.
I live in Swift Current and have absolutely marveled at the ignorance possessed by Potts in the past but this takes him to an all-time low. As ignorant as he is even he knows that he stands about a snow ball’s chance in hell of beating Brad for this seat. Maybe he is falling on his own sword in order to create doubt in the minds of voters province wide. There is no telling to what debts of desperate action the NDP will take to pull out a win. I hope there is a lawsuit brought on this matter. Outright lies and character assassination like this simply cannot go unchallenged.
I also hope there is a lawsuit on this matter. Is the SaskParty really that stupid as to pursue those challenges in court? I’d kind of like to see whether there’s any merit to those allegations. Buying booze on the taxpayers’ dime for a personal event? That DOES warrant an investigation, one would think. Certainly, I don’t think a letter from the SaskParty is quite enough to answer that.

Er, no. First, if Calvert punts him, that doesn’t mean his allegations are false, it means the stench of the SaskParty/SDA smear campaign has stuck to him. Unless Calvert comes out and says the allegations are baseless and that he’s removing Potts.

Perry, it is common practice for someone other that the individual making the libelous statement to determine whether the statement is fact based. From what I have read, Brad Wall’s father does not own any rental properties and the Chair of the Liquor commission has confirmed there was no misappropriation of funds for the purpose of puchasing liquor at Brad’s wedding. So unless you or Potts have demonstrable evidence (municipal tax notice or copy of the liquor license/receipt)to the contrary, I think Bob has you on these two allegations.
…or perhaps I’ve erred. I didn’t click on the link to the letter from Urness on the Sask Party news release.

I hope Mr. Potts does the honourable thing and steps aside. I would expect the same from any other candidate, regardless of political stripe. I would expect Mr. Calvert to issue an immediate apology, on behalf of the party, to the affected parties.
Even in politics, there’s a line. And in this case, certainly, Mr. Potts has crossed it.
Well, if he was unaware that the allegations had been found baseless, then it’s worth an apology, but, at first glance, I was initially debating whether he should step aside. There’s part of me that wants to say that, hey, things get said during election campaigns, it’s all part of the cut and thrust, etc. But, if the shoe were on the other foot, I’d be pretty livid if a Conservative had falsely accused one of my guys of the same sort of behaviour. So I’ll say yeah, he ought to step aside.

So, claiming deliberate misrepresentation is a bit of a stretch. The issue is not what was or was not said, but rather whether proper attributions as to source. Not in the same league as libel.

Maybe I’m missing something here – and I’m the last to ever support the NDP – but Potts’s comments hardly qualify as outrageous let alone libel.
He said that (1) Wall’s dad owns low rent properties and is putting Wall signs in front of them and (2) one of those properties is a crack house.
This is, excuse the pun, low rent stuff. Potts should probably step aside out of embarrassment for writing such drivel and silly attacks under an anonymous cowardly pseudonym instead of campaigning on policies. But Sask Party’s faux outrage, as well as Potts’s cowardly anonymity, is exactly why Canadians dislike and distrust all politicians more and more each year.
I was recently at a speech where a very true observative was made. McDonald’s and Burger King are vicious competitors but you would never hear them say that rat poo can be found in the other’s meat because they both know that the only result would be consumers would buy fewer burgers from all fast food outlets. Only in politics do you find competing sides willing to torch themselves if it meant flaming the other side. And the end result is the same as if McDonald’s had made the rat accusation: fewer and fewer Canadians vote, fewer and fewer Canadians trust their politicians, more and more Canadians are frustrated with our political regimes.
Blogging, for all its good, only turns the blow torch up a notch. Politics now is all about grilling, and no one is even interested in knowing where’s the beef.

That pissed her off and she retalliated. However, there is a big difference between presenting a factual quote that was uttered in the public sphere without asking for permission from the person quoted and making up lies in a public forum about a candidate and his family. Ted; You did not read the links, again, you missed the letter from the Law Office stating that it was indeed libel and spelled out what was actionable, not just by Mr. Wall but by the Saskatchewan Part. Did you skip your homework in school too? If you read the links you would have completely understood why it was Libel. Libel is written or printed words that are defamatory or that maliciously or damagingly misrepresent.
To falsely say that someone rents crack houses could easily be argued as libelous. To say that someone places lawn signs at another persons residence to misrepresent that residents political position could also be libelous, in my opinion.
