  1. South Korea’s Kim Jong Il offers scant enthusiasm as he welcomes North Korea’s Roh Moo-hyun for second summit since Second World War 5:25 AM 3
This is the caption that the Globe & Mail’s website had for the photo of their lead story. Seems that they are a little confused on this whole north & south thing.
I’m sure they will quickly change it but I wonder if they will delete the comments calling them the idiots that they are?

  2. Abolish/repeal/down with the Official Languages Act (Canada), aka official bilingualism.
MSM does not say what the official languages are. Perhaps, Swahili and Armenian?
In other words, to become an RCMP officer does not require one to speak French.

    RCMP lower entrance requirements
EDMONTON — RCMP recruits no longer need a university degree or both official languages to be hired.

  3. …. the rest of the story – See Dawn News
While our MSM reported on a suicide bombing in NW Pakistan yesterday resulting in double digit deaths (about 17, it seems), it was not reporting that the bomber was a man clad in a burka.

  4. From the what-do-they-know-we-don’t file:
    RUSSIANS EVACUATE IRANIAN NUKE FACILITY
    http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=4636
“early Oct. 1 that the entire staff of Russian nuclear engineers and experts employed in building the nuclear reactor at Bushehr had abruptly packed their bags Friday, Sept. 28, and flew back to Russia. If true, DEBKAfile can offer three hypothetical scenarios to account for the Russians’ precipitate departure:
    1. Another crisis has cropped up in the patchy Russian-Iranian dealings over the Bushehr reactor.
    2. Moscow or Tehran has been tipped off that a US or Israeli attack is imminent on the Bushehr plant and Iran’s other nuclear installations and acted to whip Russian personnel out of harm’s way.
    3. Moscow has learned that an Iranian pre-emptive attack is imminent against American targets in Iraq and the Persian Gulf and/or Israel.
Occam’s razor would dictate that #2 is most likely.

  5. Rene- Not only that but they claim Korea has been divided since the second world war. Wasn’t there a UN “Police Action” in the ’50’s (commonly referred to as The Korean War) that partitioned the country?

  6. The story is only beginning to emerge re royalty rights, Stelmach, Encana et al – and where the people of Alberta are in all of this.
See Calgary Herald (Tues) re the AB Auditor Generals report about the slackness within the conservative party in dealing with royalty rights payments due over the past years and not collected. Scathing to say the least, and this is without even looking at the recent royalty report recommending draconian-like increases to the oil patch.
If Stelmach is not careful, he is going to engineer a made in Alberta recession just as Trudeau/LaLonde did with their NEP.
The Stelmach gov’t still has a significant proportion of red/pink Tories on board and after 35 years of continuous majority rule – they may well be in trouble during the next election. They are sitting at something like 35% in the polls with prospects of going even lower.
In spite of all the riches and perceived wealth in AB, our infrastructure is in very bad shape. Yes, the debt was expunged but at what cost. It seems we are destined to go into debt again with such things as P3 Schools and P3 a whole lot of things.
With the extensive immigration into AB over the past couple of years – it is even hard to guess how any voting will go come election time. Many are here for the high salaries, have little or no vested interests (much less knowledge about) the province yet will be entitled to vote – both provincially and federally.
The royalty issue is not just an AB one – the feds are in on this as well and a huge amount of what the oil patch pays goes to the Feds as well. This was not dealt with in the Royalty Report at all.
There is/has been little transparency in AB and those with vested interests in the province are likely getting ready for a huge change. If a huge amount of this transfer to the Feds is used to further the cause of “buying PQ” for the next federal election, then expect a backlash.
Right now we need a very strong voice for Alberta and I doubt Ed has the stones to take on the Feds.
The question becomes to what – Liberals and their talk of the western Tiger – the Wildrose Party that is not even a party as yet – the Alliance Party – the Alberta Party with roots in the Reform Party that sent shock waves into the Federal Scene (and for good reasons). All of these parties are likely to field candidates in the next provincial election.

  7. The Western Standard blog mentions Bill Clinton’s connection (as usual — a money-grubbing connection) to the tainted blood scandal that just went through the courts. I had never heard of this before.
There’s actually a movie coming out about Clinton’s connection to thousands of deaths by tainted blood, but you can be sure that it won’t get any Michael-Moore-like love-ins (“Factor 8: The Arkansas Prison Blood Scandal,” made by Kelly Duda, an Arkansas native).
WHY ISN’T THIS CLINTON-AIDS-TAINTED-BLOOD-SCANDAL GETTING MORE COVERAGE????!!!
Oh, silly me. Of course. Clinton=angelic goodness. Bush=evil.

  8. Not to mention the CBC national did not even say the company name. I was waiting as I was aware of the Clinton connection.

  10. I think a lot of Kate’s regulars would enjoy and appreciate Joel Johannesen’s Proud To Be Canadian. It’s in my bookmarks toolbar as sort of a companion-site to Kate’s, Kathy’s, Broom, etc. It’s the best site for those who want to keep close track of media bias without having to suffer the ill-effects of watching too much of it; fortunately, Joel does that diligently for us.
On the main page there are links to columns from David Warren, Salim Mansur, Ann Coulter and others. It’s when you click on “Our Blog” that you’re into the meat of it: the blog starts with a “J-lines scroller with interesting snippets of various stories; underneath, the his blog posts tirelessly expose the ongoing daily biases of CTV and CBC in particular. There are excerpted transcripts of interviews and news reports, screen shots showing the, uh, curious on-screen word-graphics under news reports and talking heads, etc etc.
    Go to http://www.proudtobecanadian.ca
    then click on “Our Blog”.
It’s a quality site, updated every day, and worth supporting, because it tirelessly performs an important public service for all conservatives.

  11. So a Liberal appointed judge with a history of toeing the party line has let the players off the hook for the tainted blood conspiracy.
I say conspiracy because that is exactly what it was and continues to be. For the sake of profit and with the blessing of civil servants and other authorities too concerned about keeping their own lives as simple and free of responsibility as possible . And of course protecting their masters.
Now we have another tool of the LIbranos in a position to save their friends and business partners come through 20 years after the fact.

  12. The Al Durah propanda coup revealed. STAGED.
Perhaps no other propaganda initiative has had such a devastating influence on western perception of Israel. It has done incalcuable irreversible damaage.
I’ve been sorta skimming the story for a while.
Richard Landes at Augean Stables has done a absolutely remarkable job at exposing the fraud.
Briefly for those who are not familiar: Al Durah is the 12-year old “Palestinian” child martyr who was allegedly killed by Israeli soldiers along with his father in 2000 (I think). Anyway, it has now been revealed as another one of those Pallywood staged events.
It will be interesting to see if Christiane Imamwhore covers the story.

  13. Burma’s government is corrupt and loathesome. They have killed thousands of people and have instituted a brutal authoritarian government. They have violated repeated U.N mandates. That is why I am advocating that the United States and Canada send hundreds of thousands of troops for several years to invade and occupy this country. We must fight to spread democracy and the “American-way” throughout the world. Let’s roll.

…Troops reportedly opened fire after the Palestinians came too close to the Israeli side of the crossing.
The military said it would investigate the incident…

Over the summer, when Somali-born writer Ayaan Hirsi Ali was promoting her new book about the atrocities she’d endured in the name of Islam, she ended up on Avi Lewis’ CBC television talk show, On The Map. The result, recorded for posterity on the Web, was one of those over-the-top examples of left-wing bias that critics of the CBC are forever mass-forwarding to one another. The biggest whopper came when Ali — who’d endured both genital mutilation and forced marriage before escaping to the Netherlands — explained one of the key reasons her early life was so hellish: Whereas the Koran invades every aspect of life in Muslim countries, Western Christians respect the line between church and state.
To which an appalled Lewis replied: “Whoa. You live in the United States of America. This is a country where Evangelical Christianity has ascended to the highest ranks of power — where conservative social values drawn [from] and justified by the Bible are imposed on people every single day.” Ali interrupted Lewis: “I think you’re exaggerating …” Lewis cut her off: “They shoot abortion doctors in the United States of America!”
Interested readers can see how Ali ably defended herself against this nonsense by visiting http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=08EYqwyns-k and advancing to the 4:30 mark. But what sticks in my mind about the exchange — even months later —

  19. Joe M and others:
    RE: THE CLINTON/LIBRANO BLOOD SCANDAL
This is old news just being rehashed.
It was known During Rock’s screwing of the tainted blood hemophiliacs when he “closed the book” on the dying litigants….the Sun made a lame reference to it and the Alberta Report ( when the Byfields had it)carried the full story…the wider MSM was blank on it and this was before the blossoming of the blogosphere….but it did make the circuit on internet mail lists and the Free Dominion chat site carried long threads on it for months….the Opposition parties and the media were totally uninterested in pursuing it.
One of the main things discovered was PM Dithers (Martin) had a hand in profiting from it as one of his companies had permitted privilege to import the tainted Arkansas Prison Blood…and get away with distributing it with minimal testing….but this was hushed up as quickly as Martin’s conflict of interest investigation over CSL’s fed contracts and tax breaks from his finance ministerial decree…the ombudsman’s report on this still sits on the shelf marked as a “state secret”…can’t be viewed by anyone but the PM….maybe Harper should open a few closets looking for Librano skeletons…bet there’s plenty….but he seems curiously uncurious about Librano malfeasance these days.

  20. Citoyen Dion is not playing with a full deck yet. It’s that cliche: re-arranging the chairs on the Tietanique. Carroll has walked the plank.

  21. Andrew asks: “Can closeted homosexual Rick Mercer answer eight (8) simple questions from an interviewer without working an anti-Jesus and an anti-Bush angle?”
NO! Degenerate perverts detest spirituality which denounces the form of self debasing debaucery he revels in. Mercer is the perfect new-age hedonist who puts a fuzzy-bunny costume on militant atheist anti Christian bigotry…and of course Christian moral ethos.

  22. Naw that was Boob Rea…but I notice the camera cut away when Mercer’s head disappeared below the surface.

  23. Jack: “Waiting!”
Yesterday, Ontario Superior Court Justice Mary Lou Benotto acquitted all accused in the tainted blood affair. As I noted in posting the story, people are baffled and outraged (Mike Duffy is one).
    They shouldn’t be.
We’ve seen this story again since the Krever Inquiry. It was called the Gomery Inquiry and in the latter case it wasn’t innocent people that died.
Instead, it was our wallets which were looted.
If I have it right both inquiries have a common thread.
Both were established by the Liberal government of the day. Both were limited regarding legal liability for senior politicians and government wonks regarding the scope of the investigation. In Judge Krevers situation he was limited by the Order In Council establishing his mandate (he could not assign blame for the fiasco). It is true that people were investigated and charged in the matter. It is also true that the people “at the top” were immune from prosecution and that fact remains true to this very day.
    Likewise in the Gomery Inquiry.
Established because of the outcry over the Auditor General’s Report and the theft which was going on — especially the juicy part about buying off Quebecers with taxpayer money – a similiar Liberal government once again jumped into the breach and provided a full accounting — with the proviso that Judge Gomery could go only “so far”.
In effect, those who did the “dirty deed” protected themselves from the lynch mob certain to appear.
Chretien famously demonstrated how helpless Judge Gomery was when he started playing with golf balls while on the stand. In point of fact he threw the entire farce in our faces (that includes Judge Gomery) and laughed because he knew he could.
Having slept on the tainted blood decision and ”ruminating “upon it today I am arriving at the view that Judge Benotto was entirely correct in her decision and I’ll tell you why. She refused to convict a few small fish while aware that the really big ones were getting away.
“Mac” has said as much in earlier comments and I think he’s right.
Something smells to high heaven and it isn’t the judge so I will “wait” as I continue to anticipate the response of the voter to all this hanky panky in the next general election. …-

  27. Ukraine’s pro-West parties poised for victory
KIEV (AFP) – Pro-Western parties were poised for dramatic victory Tuesday in Ukraine’s cliffhanger parliamentary election, although their Moscow-backed rival remained defiant and each side accused the other of fraud.
With barely more than one percent of ballots left to count in Sunday’s snap election, the Orange Revolution alliance of President Viktor Yushchenko and firebrand reformist Yulia Tymoshenko held an almost unassailable lead.
Their arch rival, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, had not yet conceded defeat.
But his Regions Party, while the single biggest in parliament with more than 34 percent of the vote, lagged well behind the combined tally of about 45 percent for the pro-Western Orange coalition.
Yanukovych’s hopes of assembling a ruling coalition with smaller parties appeared dashed late Tuesday by almost certain failure of the Socialists — key allies — to clear the three percent barrier for entering parliament.
With 98.69 percent of all votes counted, the Socialists had only 2.88 percent of the vote. Zhanna Usenko-Chorna, a member of the Central Election Commission, said that was unlikely to change.
“The Socialists’ results have fallen through the day and we do not have evidence to say that their percentage can rise,” Usenko-Chorna said on Channel Five television. …-

Dion is also expected to tap two of the top strategists who were instrumental in securing three consecutive election victories for the Liberals under Jean Chrétien.

Another [rat] surfaced Tuesday, Pierre-Luc Bellerose, who announced he won’t run as the party’s candidate in Joliette and called on Dion to step down as leader immediately.
Bellerose told the French all-news channel, RDI, that Dion shouldn’t wait to be sent “to the slaughterhouse” in an election.
“At some point, you can’t be too self-absorbed. You have to think of the whole party and I think that Mr. Dion better leave,” he said, adding that Ignatieff would “change people’s perceptions of our party” in Quebec. …-

Myanmar: List of Detainees and Letter From A 88 Generation Worker
Blogger Niknayman has a list of names and affiliations of over 300 monks and civilians who have been arrested by the Myanmar Military Regime. Many are from the National League of Democracy, the party led by Aung San Suu Kyi. Newspapers across Asia are putting the number of detained people at 1500. Democratic Voice of Burma, a Norwegian organization reports that the number of arrested is much higher at over 2000. Death toll is rumoured to be in the hundreds, though the Myanmar Junta refuses to confirm the official number.
Democratic Voice of Burma is quoting this announcement from Ko Sein Lin, a 1988 Generation worker. In 1988, there was a similar protest against the Myanmar Junta, led mostly by the students. These protests were brutally crushed by the Junta and over 3000 people were thought to have been killed and many more tortured.
Ko Sein Lin urges the rest of the workers to join in the protest against the Myanmar Junta:…-

  31. Former prime minister Jean Chretien is undergoing heart bypass surgery in a Montreal hospital, CTV has confirmed.
The 73-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.
Chretien cancelled an appearance on Tuesday due to illness.
He had been scheduled to speak at an Asia-Pacific mining conference luncheon in Vancouver, but dropped out at the last minute.
No details were available about the nature of the illness, but organizers said Chretien felt sick and was advised by his doctor not to travel.
