I’m offline for the weekend, so expect things to slow down. Guest bloggers are invited, as always, to pop by if they wish.
I’ve saved a few posts for auto-publishing while I’m gone.
NOTE: For some reason, these posts sometimes generate error messages when you try to comment. If that happens, you’ll have to content yourself with waiting until someone pops in to “fix” it. I’ve arranged for that, but it may take a few hours.
In the meanwhile, enjoy your weekend, and push away from the computer for a while. I have.

    “US and Afghan commanders believe they have a large force pinned down in the valleys in southern Nangarhar. “Five hundred infiltrated the area,” Gen. Qadim Shah, the commander of 1st Brigade of the Afghan Army, told Mr. Coghlan. “We have captured 57 fighters from the Taliban and al-Qaeda. They include Chechens, Arabs and Uzbeks.” Local tribesmen are also saying Chinese Muslims, or Uighurs, and “a large contingent of Uzbeks led by Tahir Yuldashev” of the al Qaeda affiliate Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan are fighting in the area.”
    Senior al Qaeda leader may have been wounded in the ongoing battle at Tora Bora
    The battle at the Tora Bora mountains in Nangarhar province has completed its first week, the fighting has intensified as Afghan Army and US forces hunt Taliban and al Qaeda fighters who have infiltrated the region. Scores of Taliban and al Qaeda operatives are reported to have been captured after upwards of 50 terrorists were killed in the initial fighting. A senior al Qaeda leader was also reported to have been wounded in the attack.
    Dr. Amin al Haq, who serves as Osama bin Laden’s security coordinator, was reported to have been wounded in the fighting, The Telegraph’s Tom Coghlan reported from Tora Bora. Al Haq is said to have fled across the border into Pakistan’s Kurram agency. As bin Laden’s security coordinator, al Haq commands the elite Black Guard, the fanatical praetorian bodyguards devoted to the security of al Qaeda’s leader. …-

    So they are not targeting Jews or any particular race … instead focusing there rancor on those they perceive as too conservative or intolerant.
    Irony abounds!

    My cellphone has not stopped ringing for the past ten minutes. Various sources inform that an announcement will come within the next few minutes from the Cuban government on Cuban TV and media.     A book entitled Katyn is to be released on September 3rd , that is two weeks before the premiere of Andrzej Wajda’s film under the same title. The album contains photographs, archive documents and reproductions of historical maps and will be an introduction to the film. The album will also contain stills from the set of Wajda’s film, and personal commentaries of the Oscar winning Polish director. Wajda, whose father was killed in Katyn , says the film will be a story of the Katyn lie, a story of how for years the fact of the murder committed on Poles by Stalin’s NKVD secret services was denied and the blame put on Nazis. Katyn is the first feature film about the crime of 1940 on 22 thousand Polish civilians and officers by the NKVD….-

  10. Media screams —- wheat prices at record high, have doubled lately. Food inflation to come !!
    The headlines infer that groceries will also double.
    Question; what percentage, of the total cost of a box of wheaties, is the cost of wheat ??
    hint; endorsements (Tiger Woods) cost more. “Pro golfer Tiger Woods gets paid ten cents for every Wheaties box on which his face appears. The farmer who grew and harvested the wheat inside the box gets paid a nickel.”
    I am not knocking TW, just that doubling wheat price should have vitually no affect on some food prices.

    How many connected Liberal corporate patronage skanks with Cuban investments will populate the ranks of the mourner’s at grave side? Maybe Paul Desmarais Jr and wife France Chrétien? Maybe Sophie Desmarais with new boy toy Peter Mac?

    ST. PAUL, Minn. — A security video from an apartment hallway shows at least 10 witnesses ignored a woman’s cries for help for more than an hour as a man beat and sexually assaulted her, prosecutors in Minnesota said.
    The surveillance video clearly showed men and women looking out their apartment doors or starting to walk down the hallway before retreating as the woman was assaulted for nearly 90 minutes, police spokesman Tom Walsh said.
    Police said they responded to a call of drunken behavior and found Somali immigrant Rage Ibrahim, 25, and a woman lying unconscious in the hallway early Tuesday. The woman’s clothing had been pulled up and she had fresh scratches on her face and blood on her thigh, according to the criminal complaint.
