The article is an example of cherry picking personal anecdotes to prove what you already feel. Most Brits acknowledge that immigrants are hard working and willing to do jobs that Brits don’t want. A lot of employers will hire poles over Brits when it comes to things like cleaning jobs and working in CARE homes because the poles work their butts off. Same goes for most immigrants, racist ideologues aside most Brits don’t have a problem with immigrants based on their personal experience.
The country needs them to as the Brits are emigrating in vast numbers. Basicaly Brits are importing people, selling them houses and then buggering off to sunnier countries with the proceeds.
And that latter part isn’t being driven by government it’s largely due to a national obsession with wanting to live in a country with better weather.

Blair is a left/socialist. Not as bad as most in his party but domestically, he’s hard left. He’s hawkish on foreign policy but so were most on the left, right and centre in the western world until recently. JFK was a lefty on domestic issues but still hawkish on foreign policy.
The UK under Blair’s labour party has been heading towards the toilet. The government has expanded not just in size but also the oppressive, intrusive, big-brother territory which even socialists in Toronto would rebel from. My in-laws went to England to see family and friends and my mother-in-law mentioned that many people told her that the country was being ruined by immigrants. Recently, I got into a discussion with a Liberal-supporting “moderate” friend of mine on the topic of race politics, affirmative action and such.
During that conversation, I think I stumbled upon a rule-of-thumb for understanding the liberal / socialists / democrat crowd:
I kept insisting that race shoud NEVER be an issue or a consideration. That in a society of educated and compassionate people, we should all be racially colour-blind.
My buddy argued, “We are all somewhat racist by instinct…it is only a matter of what you do with it.”
I am now convinced that that is the difference between the conservatives and liberals of this world when it comes to race and multiculturalism…conservatives see society (and societies attitudes) as being something we make better by judging people “not by the colour of their skin – but by the content of their character.”
Liberals are fatalists in that they think “We are all racists…it can’t be helped. So, lets be martyrs by turning racial bigotry on ourselves.”
The liberals in both Canada and the US are responsible for nearly all race-based (segragationist) laws. From slavery to Chinese head taxes to limits on whites entering the public service.
The liberal slogan should really be, “Which identifiable group do we want to hate today?” To them, hate based on race/religion/ethnicity is inevitable. It’s just a matter of choosing which group.

The religious funding is not even remotely the same as that of the US. Blair is kowtowing to the Muslims which is left, not right. Blair is not going to be funding Christian schools and creationism. Exactly right. Immigration benefits capital at the expense of labor. Immigration may help employers, but I would hardly call it “capitalism” to undercut the wages of every employee in every job in the country by flooding the country with foreigners. Stopping mass immigration would tighten the labor market and force up wages for every working person in Canada. Bay Street may whine about imaginary “labor shortages” but what they mean is a shortage of Canadians willing to work for minimum wage. All working Canadians should support a drastic reduction in immigration for their own economic interests. And Bay Street can go hang.
