Canadian Press reports that Ontario PCs, mainstream media too chicken to take on Jewish lobby over shady grants, go after Indians and Chinese instead:

“Liberal staffers noted that $15 million of $20 million in grants Colle handed out last year went to the United Jewish Appeal, but said the Opposition parties are afraid to question such an established group so instead they question much, much smaller grants to other ethnic organizations.”

NDP MP Paul Dewar completed an eight-day trip to Erbil, in northern Iraq as part of the Practical Federalism in Iraq conference last week and says he was surprised by the “positive things” happening there.
“Essentially, the outcome was people wanting to cooperate more and it was terrific to see it emerge,” Mr. Dewar (Ottawa Centre, Ont.) said. “It certainly is what Iraq needs, to see more cooperation … because in Baghdad it’s very difficult for the various parties to come together and agree on things, one because of the security issues and because of the politics. They have the Kurds, the Shiites and Sunnis but they also have many different parties on top of that so at times it’s very difficult for them to agree on issues. In this conference, however, they were able to put their differences aside and looked at what they could agree on. And what they agree on is a federal system is the way to go.”

  2. Stop Trying To ‘Save’ Africa
    By Uzodinma Iweala
Last fall, shortly after I returned from Nigeria, I was accosted by a perky blond college student whose blue eyes seemed to match the “African” beads around her wrists.
“Save Darfur!” she shouted from behind a table covered with pamphlets urging students to TAKE ACTION NOW! STOP GENOCIDE IN DARFUR!
My aversion to college kids jumping onto fashionable social causes nearly caused me to walk on, but her next shout stopped me.
“Don’t you want to help us save Africa?” she yelled. …-

A Tactical Operations Center (TOC) is the headquarters for a unit. Company-level TOCs are the smallest I have seen. A typical infantry company has about a hundred or more soldiers. The commander will normally be a captain. A company-level TOC often consists of a radio and a map, and one person on duty 24/7. It might have a coffee maker, too. In fact, there is a company TOC at the other end of the tent in which I now reside with a company called C-52. C-52 is the smallest company with only 54 men, who all live in this tent with a huge amount of weapons, and great combat experience to back them up [to whit: Superman.] […]
I shot this photo near the northern city of Mosul in early 2007. A man disquised as a woman tried to enter a mosque. He was wearing a bomb. A guard grabbed him and the bomb exploded. Al Qaeda murders Iraqis every day in an attempt to widen the civil war. […]
What our people are trying to accomplish here is simple. Simple in the sense that a simply stated goal might be very hard to achieve. After vanquishing al Qaeda (that’s what the Iraqis here call them), the goal is to have no pause in the restoration of services. This is about mental inertia and psychology. The idea is to jump start the people and facilitate their taking responsibility for their communities.
After the initial invasion of Iraq, things seemed to just stop in most places. Many people held their breath. We paused. The type of folks who read these words are more likely to know the rest of the story. But up in Nineveh in 2003,a commander made his first priority sparking some hope during that moment of opportunity, and the people in Mosul made it their Job One to get their university up and running again. …-

  4. Want to waste 10 minutes of your life listening to mythological Canadian cliches, environmental scare-mongering, socialist rhetoric, anti-Americanism, and authoritarian narcissism from a preening pseudo-intellectual fool who loves to show off his lack of chest hair – and who, in the end, says nothing? 6. And another Liberal scandal. The liberals were apparently giving out money to ethnic groups without accountability. The citizenship minister has quit. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2007/07/26/ot-colle-resign-070726.html

Ontario’s minister of citizenship and immigration has quit after an auditor general’s report slammed the government for doling out $32 million in year-end grants to ethnic groups, without any accountability.
Auditor General Jim McCarter says the money was rushed out the door in a way that was “not open, transparent, or accountable.”
He added, however, that there was no evidence the minister, Mike Colle, handed out the funds to ethnic groups because of Liberal ties, as opposition parties had accused.

    And my favourite line.

In one case, the Ontario Cricket Association requested $150,000, but received $1 million, McCarter’s report said.
“You had people literally showing up wanting a small bucket of money and instead walked away with a wheelbarrow full of money,” said Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory.

  7. @Canadian Infidel:
If Dalton McGuinty acts true to form, he’ll use the legislature to bully the smokers right around election time in the hopes that people will forget this scandal. The last anti-smoking crusade headed up by him began within a year of his government being taken to task over a broken promise re. the deficit.
It might be different this time ’round, though. The Premier has actually apologized.

  8. Bryant, the AG of Ontario has just stated “no guns, no funerals”! Does this mean they are only going to bury people who are shot? Does it mean that people killed by beatings, knives, drunk drivers, etc. are not really dead? What a load of bullscat. These people are spinning out of control.
Why not state that if criminals are treated as criminals we may have fewer crimes? Guess that makes too much sense and would alienate the Black vote?

  10. First the Danes and now the Italians are starting to get it right:
(Rome) Three Italian lawmakers proposed creating a national registry of Muslim clerics with no criminal past to weed out fundamentalist imams.
The parliamentarians presented a draft bill and justified their action in part by pointing to last weekend’s arrest of a Muslim cleric accused of running a “terrorism school” at his mosque in Perugia, central Italy. Police have put another imam preaching in the region under investigation.

  11. Andrew, I read the piece re: opposition fighting attempts to include CHRA in Indian Act. Jean Crowder, NDP called this a “political stunt.” There you go, native people with human rights like rest of us, is a political stunt. Is it any wonder this bunch don’t want an election. They are incapable of logical, coherent policy formation. It’s all about agendas and pressure groups, of which they accuse the right. Stunning hypocrisy, and kinda stupid tactics, too. Nothing surprises me about LPC and NDP anymore. They go apoplectic when a rumour, started by terrorists, that Afghan detaine “mistreated,” yet not a word about the Taliban kidnapping of South Korean medical volunteers (sorry, they’re apparently prolesthetyzers – pardon my spelling).
Does anyone actually believe this bunch could gain power, coalition or otherwise. Does anyone believe the Liberals will actually permit Dionsky to stand for election in 2009? Think again.
When Canadians get a load of this bunch, and I for one will be there to remind them, in an election, Harper will be guaranteed his majority.

  12. The Hollywood moonbat syndrome strikes again. This time it’s Matt ‘Moonbat’ Damon, describing the differences between James Bond and Jason Bourne:
Bond is “an imperialist and he’s a misogynist. He kills people and laughs and sips martinis and wisecracks about it,” Damon, 36, told The Associated Press in an interview.
“Bourne is this paranoid guy. He’s on the run. He’s not the government. The government is after him. He’s a serial monogamist who’s in love with his dead girlfriend and can’t stop thinking about her,” Damon said. “He’s the opposite of James Bond.”

  13. More a question than a tip:
Question for those opposed to private gun ownership advocates: Where, in this sequence of events, would you have begun to change your stand?
The horrific details of the home invasion and murders of a prominent family earlier this week, by two career criminals out on parole, can be found here:
    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/07/25/national/main3095614.shtml?source=mostpop_story
    In summary, from the article:
“The state medical examiner confirmed that Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, was strangled and that her daughters, 17-year-old Hayley and 11-year-old Michaela, died of smoke inhalation. The deaths were ruled homicides.”
“The girls’ father, Dr. William Petit Jr., a prominent endocrinologist, remained hospitalized with head injuries.”
“All three women were raped, sources familiar with the investigation told both the Waterbury Republican-American and Hartford Courant. Petit was beaten with a baseball bat, thrown down the basement stairs, and then tied up in the cellar.”
“The girls, sources told the Courant, were tied to their beds and raped repeatedly, then left to burn after gasoline was poured around their beds and ignited.”
“The suspects entered the Petits’ Cheshire home at about 3 a.m. Monday, planning to burglarize it, state police said.”
My question to those who oppose private ownership of guns: If it is even possible for you to place yourself in this exact situation, where in this sequence of events might you have begun to change your stance on gun control and private ownership?
    Honest answer, please?

  19. Using cannabis even once can significantly increase a person’s risk of suffering from a psychotic illness later in life, according to research published this week in the British medical journal The Lancet.
Researchers found that people who had used marijuana at least once were 41 per cent more likely to experience psychosis, including schizophrenia, hallucinations and hearing voices, than those who had never used the drug.
Frequent pot smokers – which are defined as daily or weekly users of marijuana – had a 50 to 200 per cent greater likelihood.
The government-funded research was published with an accompanying editorial that concluded: “There is now sufficient evidence to warn young people that cannabis use will increase their risk of psychosis.”

  20. Avoid the Hybrid error.
    Diesels vs. hybrids
Diesel-powered vehicles are about 30 percent more fuel-efficient than equivalent gas-powered cars. Hybrids also offer greater fuel economy but consumers have complained that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ratings overstate the mileage for some hybrids.
The competition between hybrids and diesels pits two national industries against each other: Germany’s automakers are the leading manufacturer of diesel-powered vehicles, while the Japanese have pioneered hybrids.
Combined, diesel and hybrid sales account for less than 5 percent of U.S. auto sales. So far this year, about 150,000 hybrids and around 250,000 diesel-powered cars and light trucks have been sold in the United States.

A copy of the comment I left on that Globe story you referenced:
“The trouble with that study, as presented in the article, is that it ignores the possibility that people with an already-existing psychological disorder will use marijana to self-medicate. If it is found that (for example) smoking marijuana mixes [the] paranoid ideation (or feelings) with pleasure, then a paranoiac will find relief in smoking it unless something goes wrong while (s)he does so.
“Also, people who are already pegged as “nuts” may find it easy to purchase and keep marijuana because law-abiding people turn their back out of compassion or pity. Thus, an already mentally-disturbed may find a compensatory cachet, even if it only exists in his/her head.”

    Your comments
To walk naked is a matter of choice but be sure it’s in your own premises and no one gets offended. Though these people are staying in their own camp where practically all peers are male, they should take into consideration that they’re bound by the Muslim statute being in a Muslim country. The government should stop this act with immediate effect. It’s a grave abuse and misbehaviour; it’s a slap in the strict rules of this Arab country. Think of it!

    Update here:
Labourers in an accommodation walked stark naked in their premises much to the annoyance of fellow workers.
Manager vows action against nude workers
    […]
Gulf News met the camp boss who said that he had forwarded the complaints made against nudity to the project manager in the past.
He said: “Despite informing them to dress properly the workers just go about in nude or in their briefs. This has made fellow workers annoyed. But then again I assume it is their culture. My interaction with those workers who prefer nudity is quite limited. This is because we do not understand each other’s language. But, the company is aware of the problem and is dealing with it.”
Fellow workers who spoke to Gulf News however, chose to differ with the version given by the project manager: “No culture in the world tolerates nudity. Several complaints have been lodged by us to the camp boss and the company.
Those workers who prefer walking naked were informed about the dress code but there has been no improvement whatsoever,” he said.
