Canada’s futile attempts to bring some sense to UN Human Rights Council gets appreciated in this article in the Jerusalem Post.
I think we’d be better off just shutting down the embarassment that is the UN Human Rights Council, but if we’re going to participate it’s good to see Canada attempting to limit its stupidity.

That bit of scribble in the Jerusalem post makes me proud to be Canadian at least for a few minutes.
We are better off just shutting down the UN in its entirety.
Find the words: “UN peacekeepers run from the scene …”.
This epitomizes the cut’n’run socialists of the UN/Canada.
Taliban Jack Layton-NDP leads the cut’n’runners; he is the short, baldy guy with the elevator shoes and the white feathers in his mouth.

Yanni, where’s the little scribble from our own media?
Or would it spoil their narrative: UN good, Israel bad
Does that make you proud as well?
Once more the UN proves it is nothing more than a third world “old boys” club where arrogant pissants and despot governments get a chance to bloviate and hear themselves. In all honesty, I cannot for the life of me figure out anything positive that the UN has done that could not have been handled by some other organization or group more efficiently.
I truly believe that Canada taking a stand on this issue is a reflection of Canada’s new foreign policy. Thank you PM Harper.
Cuba is off the human rights abuse list, Israel stays. Typical. You would think that the most basic human right would be the freedom to travel at will. Anyone leaving Cuba that’s not in the dead of night on a makeshift boat evading bullets? But, Castro’s off the list.
So much unfinished business for the next US President and we all better pray it’s a Republican. How many more decades do we US taxpayers have to pay for that sewer in NYC?
The idiot Democrats, as always protecting the rogues that want us destroyed, and Clinton holdovers at the State Dept. undermined John Bolton who was a tenacious bulldog in exposing and standing up to the UN nonsense and corruption.
Three cheers for Canada.
Cal…just wondering if you read ALL of Joel’s post??
I HATE the U.N.

Read that on the weekend. Nice piece and BZ to us for being the only one of 40 odd countrys to have even a drop of common dog.
I thought the comments section was interesting as well. The very thought that an Israeli paper would have open comments was surprising when you consider the possible, almost inevitable, abuse the comment section in such a paper is likely to endure.
Limiting stupidity at the UN is like the Cleaning of the Augean Stables!
I have followed the JP a little and find Canada
is mentioned with real respect now that we have
a prime minister with some courage and ideals.
I have to say I have not been as proud of my country for many, many years.
The comments section is great as it covers
much of the Canadian people’s thoughts onthe wars and other situations.

I suggest you send a support email to Terry Cormier (canada@un.int). Terry is our guy who stood up to Luis Alfonso de Alba, questioning his claim to “consensus” on the decision to blame Israel alone and always.
Here is, from Canada’s foreign ministry web site, the text of http://geo.international.gc.ca/canada_un/new_york/whats_new/default-en.asp?id=9873&content_type=2 rel=”nofollow nofollow nofollow nofollow nofollow nofollow nofollow nofollow”>Terry’s speech
Here is more background on this event, from UN Watch
Did someone find mention of this event in Canadian MSM? Is anyone surprised?
“You would think that the most basic human right would be the freedom to travel at will.”
Well, no, I think the most basic human right would be sufficient food to sustain life, followed by adequate shelter, then by health care and education.
What about all those poor mexicans trying to “travel at will” and being stopped at the US border? Is their “most basic human right” to travel at will being violated?
But Canada has a ‘red Tory’ McKay pushing the UN in every dark alley. I read correspondence from his office, for example a canned reply to my complaint about silencing the ‘right wing dissenters’ by the moderator of the Small arms policy discussion. It’s full of ‘the important role of the UN’ junk etc.
BTW, who the hell is this joebaloni spoof artist and how does his spoof work?
Manny, in Moncton:
Your links don’t work. Can you repost please, preferably unimbedded.
The UN is just open with the stupidity, unlike
Canada example (free trade with China)
Sorry…my earlier question to cal was in reference to Joel at the blog Proud to be Canadian(where I first read this info).
I assumed it was linked…
Get real, exile. The government does not provide my food or housing or healthcare. I work for those basics as I should. It can, but is under no obligation to assist me, if I can’t provide that. I’d look to family, friends or a private charity first as I would rather not be a freeloader to other taxpayers. I’ve got a little diffrent mindframe than yours.
It’s not a Mexican’s basic right to enter our borders as illegals or mine to enter Mexico in any manner that is against their laws. They can get a tourist visa and visit or a legal work visa. A Cuban has no basic right to even visit a dying family member in Miami. It happens all of the time.
Hey.. what’s the U.N’s problem with Apartheid anyway?

When this UN Kangaroo court put China and Russia anf the latin commie craphole nations under the same microscope as Isreal I’ll belive their intent is more than typical commie politics.
Frig ’em…Canada has to distance itself from this UN dung heap before the stink rubs off in us.

The Boston Globe published on Friday an op-ed by Irwin Cotler about the UNHRC’s “Israel alone, Israel always” decision. A must read.
