Pushing Back

Muslims in general are incredibly silent on matters of terrorism and Islamic totalitarianism; so much so that the main voices heard are those of the radicals. The “noise” created by Muslim violence the world over is nowhere near being countered by Muslims who oppose it.
So it comes as a surprise to find that a Tulsa Muslim is pushing back at Muslim supremacists … and he’s doing it in the most typical of American fashions; he’s suing them:

23 June 2007: Jamal MIFTAH, a Muslim who attended the Islamic Society of Tulsa, Oklahoma is now considered “public enemy number one” in the Tulsa
Muslim community. His crime? He openly condemned the terrorist actions of Osama bin Laden and other Islamic terrorists in a letter to the editor (reprinted
below) that was published in the Tulsa World daily newspaper on 29 October 2006. In his op-ed piece, MIFTAH urged Muslims to stop killing in the name of Islam, called bin Laden and other top Islamic terrorist cowards and stated that “some mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S. and around the world have become tools in their hands and are used for collecting funds for their criminal acts.”
What happened to Mr. MIFTAH following the publication of his letter is the focus of a lawsuit he filed against the Islamic Society of Tulsa and several other related defendants. (A transcription of the lawsuit is published in its entirety below). According to Mr. MIFTAH, on or about 18 November 2006, he attended prayers at the mosque as he had normally done in the past. Following the prayers, Mr. MIFTAH alleges that the Iman of the Mosque and a defendant named in the lawsuit, Ahmad KABBANI, confronted him in an aggressive manner – forcing him to retreat against a wall inside the mosque and told him that he “should be ashamed” of the letter he wrote, claiming that it was “anti-Islamic.”
At the same time and while being nearly pinned against the wall, mosque members and named defendants Houssam ELSOUESSSI, Abdullah ROE and Nooruddin DOE also confronted Mr. Miftah, screaming and shouting allegations that Mr. MIFTAH is “anti Muslim” and a “traitor” to Islam. ROE also removed his shoe, waived and swung it at Mr. MIFTAH’S face, shouting that he was “anti Muslim” and a “traitor.” Mr. MIFTAH was ultimately assisted by another member of the mosque who observed these activities and accompanied him outside, away from his aggressors.

  1. As with Mahatmah Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr, it starts with one courageous person on the inside to take a stand and say “This is wrong!”. Barbaric acts are carried out in the name of Islam, and the overwelming majority of Muslims worldwide either remain silent or nod their heads in approval. They then claim that the rest of us are intolerant of their “Religion of Peace”. North American Muslims want us to believe they are truly peaceful and serious in their opposition to terrorism. If so, then when the next act of terrorism occurs, lets see them parade by the thousands through our streets with flags and banners waving, all saying “We denounce these acts!”

  2. Pisslam has been killing men of valour and courage for centuries.
We shouldn’t be letting these cave men into our countries. I will bet this goes on in alot of mosques.

  3. How does a small aggressive minority dominate the larger, more passive majority? By being totally ruthless with anyone who doesn’t toe the party line. Would you speak up in your community if there was a real possibility that you or your family would be killed for it? This is not a trivial matter. Folks who are willing to literally put their lives on the line, like Irshad Manji, to confront the demons in their faith deserve our support and protection.

  4. Jamal MIFTAH is a hero as far as I am concerned. I am also concerned that his may not be alive much longer.
    Let us hope he prevails.

  5. It’s time to start a new religion based on Islam and our ex-Liberal Progressives. Oh its already done? Its called kill the dhimmi? One learns something every day, EH!

  6. I guess this passes for news; one Muslim out of countless silent millions speaks out against terrorism. Big deal. He’s the exception that proves the rule: Muslims actively or passively support Islamic terror and Shariah law. Stop Muslim immigration now before we’re all fitted out for our burqas.

  7. Are you really surprised? Not unless you are “Brain dead”. Have a nice day…

  8. Orlin…very unlikely that anyone here is surprised. I for one have suspected this is happenning, but we won’t hear about it because that would go against the media message that ‘Islam is the religion of peace, dontcha know?’
Now that this one Muslim who decided ‘enough’ has been given some ‘publicity’ will we hear from more, or will the silence continue?
Up until now it has only been suspicion from the outside.

  9. This is POSITIVE PROOF that most Muslims are supporting terrorism.
We have to wake up to that fact. They’re on a mission to rule the world.
We in our Western Democracies have to cut the politically correct crap and call a spade a spade.
Slam the door on any more immigration from islamic regimes. Watch all those we have allowed in for covert activities.
BOTTOM LINE, CAN’T TRUST ANY OF THEM.
Trotting around our communities in burkas, shunning those around is not our lifestyle.
They are bent on setting up Muslim communities and spreading on to eventually influence governments.
Canada with Charter Rights and multiculti programs is in worse danger of them gaining more power to have their pagan laws enacted. Sharia almost made it through in Ontario.

  10. I bet you could replicate that behavior in almost every mosque in NA and Europe. Like every cult any member not in lockstep gets punished. I’ll tell you what is really scary, we are talking about Tulsa, Oaklahoma, not the rabid radical Finsbury Park mosque in London. You’ve got to be an idiot to continue thinking that Islam isn’t dangerous.
Think we’ll see this trial on Court TV? Ooops, the MSM will protect us as much as possible from such realistic insights into the very people that want us all dead.
Melanie Phillips recently posted this warning from the Barnabas Fund, “the organisation that represents the cause of persecuted Christians around the world and which is an authoritative source of information on Islamism”:
For those with eyes to see, similar processes are underway among the Muslim communities in Western states, including Britain, as Islamists build up a vast infrastructure of organisations and institutions while presenting themselves as liberal and democratic. There can be no doubt that their final goal, according to their published dogmas, remains an Islamic state under shari‘a. The tactics will differ and change, but the goal remains the same and the method of attaining it in well defined stages will continue to be used. Most Islamists in the West reckon they have moved past the first stage into the second, that of building up and strengthening their infrastructure while using deception to enter the democratic process so as to gain new positions of power. Once they judge they are strong enough, they will move into the third stage of power when violence will be used, if necessary, to gain total control of state and society.
It’s worth reading the whole thing.

  11. maybe he should include AL QUEDA and the TELIBAN in his suit as well hope he wins

  12. If it is ‘many’, and it is politically incorrect to say “the barrel is full of fanatics” — we are in trouble.
If it is only ‘one’, and it is politically incorrect to say “one bad apple spoils the barrel, throw out the rotten one” — we are in trouble.

“””gaining more power to have their pagan laws enacted”””
the muzzle-ems consider abraham as their forefather, jessus kriste as one of their proffets, soooo, if their laws are pagan, can we then assume that kristian based laws are pagan as well????

  14. Gym:
Not only are you spelling challenged, apparently you need to work on your reading comprehension as well.
Miftah agrees Muslim is an Abrahamic religion. It is the head-hacking jihadists he has trouble with.
So do I. How about you?

  15. Written by a Canadian Mom….
One of my sons serves in the army. He is still here in Canada .
He called me yesterday to let me know how warm and welcoming people were
to him, and his fellow soldiers, everywhere he goes, telling me how people
shake their hands, and thank them for being willing to serve, and fight, for
not only our own freedoms but so that others may have them also.
But he also told me about an incident in the grocers’ shop he stopped at
yesterday, on his way home from the quarters. He said that ahead of several
people in front of him stood a woman dressed in a burkha. He said when she
got to the checkout she loudly remarked about the Canadian Flag lapel badge
the cashier wore on her blouse. The cashier reached up and touched the
badge, and said proudly,” Yes, I always wear it and probably always will.”
The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to stop
bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was an Iraqi. A gentleman
standing behind my son stepped forward, putting his arm around my son’s
shoulders, and nodding towards my son, said in a calm and gentle voice to the
Iraqi woman. “Lady, hundreds of thousands of men and women like this young
man have fought and died so that YOU could stand here, in OUR country and
accuse a check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that
had you been this outspoken in YOUR own country, we wouldn’t need to be there
today. But, hey, if you have now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I’ll
gladly buy you a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq so you can straighten out the
mess in YOUR country that you are obviously here, in OUR, country to avoid.”
    Everyone within hearing distance cheered!

  16. The “Religion of Peace” propaganda is out there because our ruling class thinks we are all beer swilling violent idiots.
Canadians are likely to start in killing the nice Muslims if Big Brother doesn’t keep us all happy with a nice calm voice, a six pack and a bag of popcorn. But not a two/four, that’d be wasteful. Only Liberal Party hacks get the two/four, eh?
Same with Americans, but they get a 12 pack ’cause their beer is so crappy.
Still, I wish this guy luck. If there’s anyone can get a bunch of racist death-cultist imams looking over their shoulder its an American lawyer.

  17. GYM: Our interpretations have evolved don’t you think? We’re a civil society and religions follow our laws.
We don’t go about chopping off heads and stoning people to death or forcing people to pray umpteen times a day. We don’t oppress women by forcing them to go about as human tents, covered from head to toe.
We don’t strap bombs to our young boys and send them off to suicide bomb innocent people.
    WE HAVE EVOLVED. GOT IT?

  18. The efforts by Islamic fundamentalists to spread their poison and radicalize a generation is disturbing and dangerous. But we shouldn’t forget that most of their efforts are dedicated not against us but against other Muslims.
There is a civil war going on in the Muslim world. The radicals seem to be gaining the upper hand, both through their use of unrestrained violence and with an enormous influx of Saudi money. But there are many, many Muslims who fighting hard against the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Many of them are right here in Canada.
Don’t forget we have 600,000 Muslims living in this country today. I have gone to school, worked and served in the armed forces with many of them. Some of the people I have admired most are Muslims. They genuinely appreciate the freedoms they have living here, and are anxious to contribute their best to this country. Ask a Muslim immigrant from Iran some time what they think about establishing an Islamic theocracy in Canada. You’ll get an earful.
We should be doing everything we can to help these moderate Muslims overcome the poisonous propaganda of the Wahhabis and their ilk. The Muslim author Reza Aslan equates what is happening in the Islamic world with the Christian reformation, noting that both upheavals occurred at similiar times in the history of each religion. The question is, who will win?
Rather than demonizing all Muslims, let’s help end the Wahhabi influence. We should let men such as Jamal Miftah in Tulsa know they are not alone, and that we are going to help them win their fight.

  19. Phantom; I completely disagree with you. I have quaffed many a karaf of American beer and enjoyed it a great deal. I particularly liked the original Cours and Bud as well.
Something else to think about, Belisarius, the greatest obstacle that moderate Muslims face is our multiculturalism.

  20. Gunney, that’s another Canuckistan myth you’ve shot to hell. How are we supposed to think we are better than Americans if we can’t lie about the beer?
Next you’ll be telling me there’s Americans that can play hockey!

  21. Belisarius – You are making assumptions that can’t be supported by any facts regarding the status of a reformation/civil war going on within Islam. We certainly know the global scope and objectives of the radicals. We don’t have enough information as to how many moderates there are and what “moderate” means to a Muslim. We do have enough accumulated public opinion polls from various countries suggesting that far too many Muslims living in the West aren’t that moderate at all.
Instead of “we” doing more to support moderate Muslims, I can’t think of much more we can do for them, how about moderate Muslims doing something other than hiding in the shadows. It time they cleaned out their rogue mosques, organized themselves and open their mouths publically. Past a certain point silence is an act of complicity.
Jamal Miftah doesn’t need accolades or more support from us, he needs it from his fellow Muslims. That’s the point.
Reforming Islam isn’t your or my responsibility.

  22. Reforming Islam isn’t your or my responsibility.
Agreed, but we have to do all we can to help the moderates. We’re in a global war with radical Islam, and winning the war of ideas and information is just as important as any battlefield victory. Maybe more so. Right now the Jihadis are kicking our butts in the propaganda war, particularly in the Muslim world which is their source of funding and recruits. That has to end.
The best way to help moderate Muslims is to choke off the funding from the Wahhabis. Right now that money is making it an grossly uneven and even lethal fight for moderates.

  23. Don’t muslims remove their footware at the entrance to a mosque? I’ve heard and believe that they don’t step on the threshold in defference to the Philistine god Dagon but I was under the impression that they didn’t wear shoes in the mosque. If that assumption is true and I’m sure someone more informed than I will correct me otherwise, then there is a huge hole in the story. A radical muslim in the mosque removed his shoe and attempted to hit the moderate muslim in the face with the shoe. Someone’s some splainin to do here Lucy.

  24. Joe,
Wise up … your are nit picking here. This assault most likely took place outside the actual ‘ass in the air’ section of the mosque.
This isn’t a script to be criticized it’s a serious event that may help us in repelling these disgusting jihadist bastards.
You cheapen what is being discussed here. It is air heads like you who make it easier for our enemies to make progress.
We need to repel these people and their antics. We need public opinion to turn against them. We need to get the Left to understand that this isn’t about political correctness, nor racism, nor hurt feelings … This is about our very survival.

  25. Yanni
As a Christian I would like to see the complete erradication of the islamic religion extreme or moderate with the complete conversion of all the muslim practitioners to Christianity. I am simply pointing out an inconsistency in the story that takes away from the credibilty of the person relating these event to the rest of us.

  26. Penny,
You are wrong … Jamal Miftah does need our support. He is working to have Muslims in our world assimilate. By that, he shows respect for our way of life. He is challenging his own, but he need all the support he can get from anyone and especially us.
If we do not support his efforts, why should he bother and why not just go along with the rest of those monsters and work against us. Or, at the very least stay quiet about it and go on his merry way.
We have an obligation to civilize anyone in our country who behaves in barbaric manner or we should toss them out. Take your pick. I don’t think tossing them out is on at this point although that is my preference. We must start working to change what is happening. Our own leftists are complicit with these toads as well.
We must turn public opinion against them as well. They are good at using political correctness against those of us who still live in the real world with what’s left of our traditional values. We must turn that against them and help in this culture war and in the war against the Islamic Jihad.
We in the West pride ourselves on being willing to live in peace with other cultures. However, other cultures are unwilling to do the same. Thus we must work to change that … it IS our responsibility. That is why Jamal Miftah needs our support and accolades.

  27. Joe,
Then you are a Christian chauvinist. I don’t care whether anyone converts to anything as long as they are peaceful and freedom loving or at least tolerant of those of us who do love freedom.
I believe in live and let live and the golden rule. You are not a prosecutor in the case of Jamal Miftah and so your interest in a Muslim shoe is juvenile. There is much bigger fish frying here and you are detracting from that.
If you have something useful or helpful to say, state it, otherwise, perhaps your your shoe threat sleuthing ability might be better confined to computer role playing games where such detail can get you points.

  28. Yanni
Who peed in your cornflakes today. You are being irrational in ineffective in your desires. To want to replace islam with Christianity is no more chauvanistic of me you and your desire the see all muslims live by your terms. I believe it is simply more effective to convert people to Christianity because Christianity has had 2000 years of testing and found to be effective in bringing peace to the world unlike the “can’t we all just get along” multicult that you seem to espouse. Finally checking the facts never gets in the way of a good story, just ask Dan Rather. How about that wonderful bombing run done on the Lebanese ambulance during the Lebanese Israeli conflict last year. Someone happened to notice that the hole in the ambulance roof was too perfectly round and too perfectly centered to be a bomb hit. The damage done to Dan Rather is evident everywhere and so is the damage to the credibility of the MSM who keep spreading similar “ambulance bomb” stories. Before we get too carried away and make ourselves look foolish let’s check the facts and weigh the evidence.

  29. “Reforming Islam isn’t your or my responsibility.” – perhaps not, BUT
Eradicating extremist Islam should be everybody’s responsibility.
It had better be, or those barbaric lunatics will soon be in charge of this asylum.

  30. Not much point in getting too steamed at each other here about Muslim fine points..

Israel’s military intelligence chief warned Sunday that Israel is on the brink of a war that could break out as early as this summer.
Major General Amos Yadlin told the Israeli Cabinet that several factors were moving the nation toward war.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Yadlin cited Iran, Hizbullah, Hamas, World Jihad, and Syria who the paper quoted Yadlin as saying “are all actively working against Israel, and may force a conflict as early as this summer.”
**Any one of these authorities can bring about a deterioration in the situation this summer,** Yadlin said.

  31. Joe and Yanni – we non-Muslims can’t reform Islam. We can contain or annihilate it as a threat to us. Only Muslims can change it.
I’m not saying that when there is an opportunity to lend support to moderates or cut funding from radicals we shouldn’t act. We can certainly refuse Sharia laws from operating in our society. But, I know of no situation where reforming a religion, and in Islam’s case it is negating very basic tenets, was done by outsiders.
It’s not my responsiblity to reform Islam, that’s for Muslims to do.

  32. I recommend to you all Ed Husain’s new book “The Islamist.”
Alas, there are just too few Muslims like Ed around who are prepared to speak up against the nutbars who’ve hijacked their faith.

  33. Muslim “moderates” are not needed or wanted in the West. Somehow we’ve managed to build a 2500 year old civilization without their help. The best thing these “moderates” can do would be to return to their home countries, bringing with them the experience of living in a tolerant, secular culture, hoping their “moderation” will rub off on their fanatical co-religionists. Muslims have played no role in settling, building or fighting for Canada. Why should they inherit what our Judeo-Christian ancestors have created?

  34. Liz
I wuz going to point to Timmy McVeigh as a not so evolved example, but then Joe dropped by and provided a pretty good example of what I think demonstrates a less a than evolved individual
convert everyone to kristianity, I think people should choose their belief system, and not be brain washed by others, I had enough BS pushed on me by religious wackjobs (kristians) when I wuz a kid
