  1. A friend forwarded this to me. I think it’s worth the attention of people at SDA.
“Christianity, and nothing else, is the ultimate foundation of liberty, conscience, human rights, and democracy, the benchmarks of Western
civilization. To this day, we have no other options [than Christianity]. We continue to nourish ourselves from this source. Everything else is postmodern chatter.”
    Who said this?
It was Jürgen Habermas, the German postmodern critical theorist, sociologist, “methodical atheist,” Frankfurter, & all-round jerk. At least
I’ve now seen it quoted by three different writers, of which the most recent is Philip Jenkins in Foreign Policy:
    http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3881
My Google-search traced it to a 2004 essay, entitled in English, “A Time ofTransition” — published, curiously enough, just after Habermas had alongish encounter with a certain Joseph Ratzinger. Among others’, I missed at the time Sandro Magister’s report on the matter.
Habermas is also quoted (from that essay) praising St Thomas Aquinas, for a “seriousness & consistency” that is “the opposite of the feeble thinking that pervades current philosophy & theology.”

  2. How can anyone who has a grasp of what is transpiring in this world today not agree with Habermas? Christianity is the only option.
Strangely it’s the Socialist elements in our society that are permeating our major Christian denominations and taking them down.
Anglicans are voting whether to allow gay marriage blessings in the Church. The outcome for that denomination is critical to it’s survival undivided.
Doubtless they are aware the quote by Habermas, perhaps they should be advised. A bit of critical thinking is in order.

  3. Liz J: For the record, I agree with every word of your post on Black whom I greatly admire. A great writer and a great newspaper man. And, indeed: hated in Canada for the reasons you cite.
    Anecdote:
I’m still in shock over an incident in Tofino BC (hippie-land on the Island’s west coast): I gassed up my motorcycle and popped into the shop to pick up a National Post and was verbally assaulted by a guy who decided to unload his anti-Black bile on me. Also for the record, this whole matter should have left in the arena of corporate governance and shareholder activism. As I recall, the US investment company Tweedy Browne who initiated the whole thing — and have thereby casued a massive drop in the share price — has regretted pursuing the matter.

  4. Well said, Liz J.
The insiders of the Anglican hierarchy may know of the thoughts of Habermas. If so, they’re pretending they don’t. The Anglican story is a very sad one of acquiesence: virtually total surrender to the Zeitgeist.
In that regard, the wonderful G.K. Chesterton wrote, “He who marries the spirit of the age, will soon be a widower.” I think Requiems are in order for the Anglican Church–if not this month, in some year soon to follow. More than sad . . .

  5. The case is too complex for MSM.
And in all likelihood, too complex for the jury which is probably not a jury of his peers.
Too complex: GUILTY. Let’s go home and watch some TV.

Once another 10 to 20 million of Mexico’s poor take America’s jobs, we create a whole new poor class. Who cheers this Trojan horse? Big business, Council on Foreign Relations, Tri-lateral Commission and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, that’s who!
    Inside that Trojan horse:
    *
Jump legal immigration from one to two million annually
    *
Legalize 20 million illegals on pathway to citizenship and voting
    *
Add 400,000 annual Z-visas with no time limit
    *
Can’t deport an illegal who becomes legal until his/her fourth DUI
    *
Legalizes 20,000 MS-13 drug gang members to continue their work
    *
Encourages more anchor babies now at 380,000 annually
    *
Endless chain migration of relatives from all over the world
    *
Ensures the USA will add 100 million people in 30 years
    *
Cost U.S. taxpayers a minimum of $2.3 trillion
    *
    Endless growth, expansion, traffic, infrastructure
    *
Cause water crisis across America that will be irreversible and unsolvable
    *
Create energy crisis that will cause enormous costs to food, heating and transportation
    *
Fracture American society into bi-lingual confusion
    *
Create two cultures both antagonistic to one another
    *
Create new American poor class as immigrants degrade jobs and wages for all U.S. citizens.
If you knew George Bush would lie to invade Iraq, would you have voted for him?
[ . . . ] If you knew his grand scheme included dissolving America’s borders via a shallow experiment of the North American Union, would you support Bush’s guest worker/amnesty bill? If you knew the ultimate consequences would be far greater than Iraq as to the destruction of America, would you sit by doing nothing?
If your answer is “NO!” I suggest you get your rear end in gear to stop Mr. Bush from implementing his Trojan horse before you can’t stop him. Start with:

I worked alongside Mexicans at South Texas heating and Air Conditioning in Corpus Christi.
They worked, got paid and paid taxes. Very reserved … like us Canadians.
Not sure why Frosty is all worked up.
One of his points. . .
** Legalizes 20,000 MS-13 drug gang members to continue their work. **
Laws make not one Iota of difference Ms-13 types. Also . . .
** If you knew George Bush would lie to invade Iraq, would you have voted for him? **
Using *hindsight logic*. This guy is creative, devious and slick.
**After ‘doing nothing’ for the past six years and clearly in violation of his oath of office, he arm twisted key senators to reintroduce his ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill’ that was defeated in the Senate…**
Many Americans would swallow this stuff hook line and sinker. A worthy opponent. = TG
