Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

After living in an earthquake prone portion of the world I can tell you part of the reason I came to SK was to escape earthquakes. They are not for the faint of heart. I don’t want to live with them again. It is something you can only appreciate if you experience it.
But SK isn’t home free. Years ago I read about an earthquake in Moose Jaw in the early 1900’s. It registered 3 point something which is about the average size of a ‘noticeable’ earthquake in California.
I can tell you that if an earthquake hit Moose Jaw city centre at 3.5M there would be talk about it for months.
One real advantage we have here is better building code. Believe it or not, having to stand up to the weather also makes them better able to withstand the kind of earthquakes we could have here.
At least we know the rickety wheatfield welfare state will never cillapse under the pressure of an earthquake.
Kate I’m confused, if this is the safest place in Canada, why does it continue to bleed workers?
Bill Redux-
looks like as good of a correlation as global warming – earthquakes means economic properity. look at Japan , California, southern Europe. It is undeniable.
I never though of that Cal 😉
Earthquakes = prosperity…must be all the folks rabbiting away like mad to make their $$$ before the big one hits 🙂
I dunno. How close are you to the New Madrid fault? That one runs up the Western border of Tennessee. That is a badass fault, and overdue for a big one. Earthquakes along New Madrid in 1811/12 made the Missippi River run backwards for a day and rang church bells in Boston. Much stronger than the San Fransisco quake, they figure. If it happened today, the loss of life would be devastating. Bye bye Memphis.
Good morning, everyone! Happy Monday!
“How close are you to the New Madrid fault”
Sask is probably closer to the San Andreas fault.
Also, there is a fault line in BC that would definately be closer.
Those faults would have to have catastrophic earthquake before they would be noticable in Saskatchewan. I am talking ocean front property in Chilliwack BC or something like that.
See? See? We’ve been warned, the planet is heating up! We must take action now!
Ya, the planet is heating up. It has to do with the sun more than anything. In 20 years, it is suppossed to start cooling off….and all the David Suzuki’s will say ” see I told you so !!”

Umm, lemme see – living in Tahiti vs. Sask…
Call me crazy, but I might just pick Tahiti.
If an earthquake flattened Saskatchewan would anyone notice? If an earthquake flattened Saskatchewan would anyone outside of Saskatchewan care?

More caring, compassion and social justice from your friends on the left.
What? With a growth rate of -1.1% Saskatchewanians?? Saskatcheweenies??, or whatever they’re called, they don’t seem to have much loyalty either.
Ah… bless that stable craton called the Canadian Shield. One of the few things the liberals haven’t found a way to unravel in the last two billion years.
