  1. I’m anticipating the May snowfall too, I just finished telling someone that we weren’t out of Winter yet here, despite appearances.
Thanks for the link, I have the other half of my Highway 11 journey coming up later today probably, in pictures.

  2. I remember a lot of Easter Sundays in my life, where you wake up to a big wet snow fall in the morning. I have also see a big wet dump of snow on May 4th.
So – you may be correct (hope not … but those who live in Saskatchewan know what you are talking about).
My shovel is now in the shed and it will take one heck of a big dumping for me to dig it out.

  3. Leftdog you fool, don’t you realize that by putting your shovel away before June, you’re dooming us all to a blizzard! 😉

  4. May long weekend, to be exact, Kate. Here in redneck land west of you, we have had snow in Edmonchuck and north for 15 out of last 16 years on that weekend. It actually is quite nice. Makes the camping much more fun, and keeps the silly “only if it’s sunny and +25C” so-called campers out of the sites. Except for a buddy from just south of New Orleans. He thought it was great, and almost had to beat him stupid at 3 in the AM to get him to come in out of the “pretty, white, fluffly flakes” and get some sleep!

  5. I heard my first meadowlark this morning and the bluebirds arrived in Hanley on Wednesday…you’re right about shovel storage…it went down to -22 last week, the day I put away my car extension cord.

  6. I have seen it snow every month except August here in Calgary.
Remember driving home in the May long weekend blizzard, 4 hours from Red Deer to Calgary, normally a 1.5 hr drive.

  7. I have started my tomato plants/flowers, hoping to move them outside on the May long weekend, but my shovel is still right by the door, because May usually brings one more snow storm.

  8. And just wait until AL GORE come along and blames it on GLOBAL WARMING and GEORGE W. BUSH becuase gore is a out of his mind

  9. As a guy who’s lived in rural Manitoba, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Whitehorse and now Winnipeg again, you never, ever, ever put the shovel away until the air conditioner is in use. It’s a guaranteed jinx.

I have seen snow in Calgary in August. (Very late in the month, very early in the AM). 1965 If I recall.
My Grandfather, who settled in Calgary in 1908 said he had seen snow in Calgary in every month.

  11. I just got back from standing a-top 3 feet of ice on Lake Simcoe here in Souhern Ontario.
The perch are committing suicide !!!
    Whoo Hoo!
I can usually find my way onto some frozen lake up to Easter weekend than the shore ice is usually too rotted.
This year looks good for getting out a little later than usual, ice conditions are great for this time of year.

  12. Thank Christ it’s finally melting.
More snow fell this year than any recent year.
In 2006 the snow here was almost gone, in 2007 there’s still two feet of snow and two inches of ice. I can’t wait for the Kyoto crowd to blame it all on El-Nino or whatever…
p.s This is the last year I ever vacation in October.
