Yet more proof that the Liberal governments thought far more of themselves than the military:
Canadian MPs’ meal per diem is more than the meal per diem given to a military family of three (from the comments at jojourn.blogspot.com/2006/07/culture-of-entitlement-continues.html).

Peak Oil? Are you sure it’s not the case that 82 percent of the world’s endowment of oil and gas resources remains to be used (not even counting coal). Are you sure the biggest problem isn’t that the world’s hydrocarbon resources aren’t privately owned and managed? If you’re interested, you may wish to peruse http://www.reason.com/0605/fe.rb.peak.shtml
(PS: Who says you can’t enjoy a beautiful Saturday evening even if you’re joined to your computer at the hip? After all, the window is open, there’s a nice breeze, the temperature is good, we’ve just had some life-giving rain, and now the life-giving sun is shining, through the open window, there’s stinky cheese, port, and tobacco, and the good folks at the Friends of SDA, what more could I ask for? Of course, your mileage may vary. As might mine, depending on my mood. We’re a naturally strange bunch of folks, us human beings đ

No doubt you’ve heard about the dude who launched an ambitious project to gradually trade up from a paper clip to a house. The good news is that he has succeeded at long last. The bad news is, someone’s eventually gonna have to tell him that he probably could have had an empty farmhouse in southeast Saskatchewan for the original price of the paper clip…
Holy crap it’s worse than I thought; check out Joe Volpe organizer Jimmy K’s “Anybody But Whitey” sales pitch:
“At a Tim Hortons in south Ottawa, he plays guess-the-nationality as a man walks through the parking lot. He shouts a greeting in Tamil, and discovers the man is from Guyana.
Mr. Karygiannis tells him that he visited Guyana after floods there last year, when Canada provided aid, and the man, who identified himself only as Mr. Ali, starts to chat.
“Let me ask you something. Do you think it’s time that Canada had an ethnic prime minister?” Mr. Karygiannis asks. Joe Volpe is ethnic, somebody who immigrated to Canada just like us, he tells him. He asks if Mr. Ali wants to join the Liberal Party, and Mr. Ali gives him a telephone number so that an organizer can call. “And I have a lot of family,” Mr. Ali says.
Later, Mr. Karygiannis remarks on his “killer closing line” — “Is Canada ready for an ethnic prime minister?” — and explains how it’s done. “It takes 30 seconds to zero in on an individual and figure out if you can sign them up, if you’ve got something in common with them.”
For him, it’s where people come from.
An MP since 1988, Mr. Karygiannis has assiduously courted ethnic communities, and has visited dozens of countries such as Somalia and Sri Lanka, often after natural disasters — so often that his critics call him an international ambulance chaser.”

John Turner immigrated from England; is that not swarthy enough for Karygiannis? Paul Martin was of Metis decent, according to Wikipedia. In any case, howsabout we just elect the best party with the best leader and best policies rather than voting along racial lines?
I’m with you Vitruvius. I’ve had enough heat and working in it, the past two weeks to last me awhile. A nice sunset at my right and canola to my left…tonight’s catch up on reading night.
Peak oil is something I was introduced to by another blogger and I have since asked some, who I know in the field, who think it is quite likely, but doubt that it is un-ending. I do know that there are wells in this area that have not been in production for years, that are producing again… New recovery technologies?

I can’t remember where I got this link(http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/433448p-365170c.html%27 ) from today, regarding the Canadian involved in the NY subway terrorist plot; but it’s to a New York Daily News story about Assem Hammoud and how he even fooled his mother.
I can’t believe how many people are surprised at the lengths these jihadists jerks will go to, and lay in wait… This story and others I have seen make mention of how these guys are so turned off by Western women, yet they pay for lap dances just to fit in and foll investigaters. Yeah right. I know many of them engage in homosexual activity, but to insist that they are actually turned off by a lap dance is a bit dubious. We’re also supposed to believe they don’t like alchohol, insist they don’t drink it, but will if it suits their purpose? Pork chops for you Mr. Hammoud?
Anyways, wake up and face the fact that this is a fight far from over and far more noxious than many of us realize, possibly even their own parents/family. I doubt that though too.

Nutcase ** Madmud Almondjeans** is the real problem here and Lebanon is the potential flashpoint.
If radical Islam is to be supressed in favour of a more honest, humane and fair practice of the faith, moderates will have to choose and support a wholesome and moderate leader.
There has so far been no leader mentioned who could counter-balance Osama or Muctada al-Sadr… bloodthirsty killers.
I asked commentors at:
http://www.MichaelTotten.com
who that leader could be and got one possible answer, but can not find much info on him.
Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani .. Ever heard of him?
Seems Hamas is a faint second string when Hezbollah is around and they are all over South Lebanon on the North Islraeli border. Agents of Iran.
Guess **Madmud Almondjeans** is looking for a fight preferably over Lebanon and not over his home base, Iran. TG

Surprise… surprise…. Mohammed and Allah have a surprise for the infidels….
ISLAM: What the West Needs to Know
An examination of Islam, violence, and
the fate of the non-Muslim world.
Excerpt:
Part 4: âWar is Deceitâ
A great problem with Western efforts to understand Islam is due to the Islamic principle of ‘religious deception’, which enjoins Muslims to deceive non-Muslims in order to advance the cause of Islam. Muslim groups today in the West employ deception and omission to give the impression that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’, an utter fiction.
Part 5: More than a Religion
The most important characteristic of Islam not understood by the West is that it is more a system of government than a personal religion. Throughout its history, Islam has never recognized a distinction between the religious and the secular/political. Islamic law governs every aspect of religious, political, and personal action, which amounts to a form of totalitarianism that is divinely enjoined to dominate the world, analogous in many ways to Communism. …- more

Fisher on Gardiner and Douglas and the socialist/communist tract: “The Regina Manifesto”.
Excerpt:
Gardiner saw partisan politics as war, and was full of verve and bite when extolling “Liberalism” and mocking “socialists” and backward “Tories.”
I boned up on him in late 1957 after he made a mockery of me during my first speech as an MP. I had been foolish enough, after joshing “Liberal arrogance,” to pause a moment, reaching for a paper on my desk. Into the quiet that fell over the House, Gardiner’s wit shot out in piercing high volume.
“Hey, boy! What are you looking for? The Regina Manifesto?”
It took me months to recover my equilibrium after that shaft. Indeed, after that I often had to wince at cracks about my “manifesto.” That’s because the CCF’s 1935 Regina Manifesto had by then become an albatross for the party, with its demand that the government take over big private companies such as the CPR.
Indeed, by 1957, the CCF in Ottawa and Regina was promoting a new “Winnipeg Declaration,” deserting their earlier goal of nationalization.
Jimmy Gardiner never let the home folks forget how “red” the CCF’s Regina Manifesto was. “The most ridiculous piece of political literature ever put out by any party,” he called it.
From a Liberal viewpoint, Jimmy Gardiner was an all-round competent politician. He was a very moral, judgmental man, abstemious, work-absorbed and politically courageous.
I could see why he’d planned to run to succeed Mackenzie King as national Liberal leader (although the eastern press dismissed him as largely an overzealous western minister).
I soon realized that the CCF’s horror stories about “Jimmy’s machine” and its vile patronage were an attempt to make a devil of him for what was, in fact, simply well-organized partisanship.

Cracking the Secret Codes of Europe’s Galileo Satellite [means consumers could use it for free]
Posted by John Jorsett
Newswise ^ | July 7, 2006
Members of Cornell’s Global Positioning System (GPS) Laboratory have cracked the so-called pseudo random number (PRN) codes of Europe’s first global navigation satellite, despite efforts to keep the codes secret. That means free access for consumers who use navigation devices — including handheld receivers and systems installed in vehicles — that need PRNs to listen to satellites. The codes and the methods used to extract them were published in the June issue of GPS World. …-

Global TV in Toronto ran a spot at 6 and 11 last night about area mosques opening their doors to non-Muslims.
They started the piece with something like “Toronto Islamic centres are opening their doors to dispell fears about the Muslim community, but the move may have backfired.”
Then they showed an interview with a spokeman at one of the mosques who said he didn’t believe that the 19 Muslims were behind the 9/11 attacks, that you could go on the internet and find information that proved it was impossible that they did it.
Good on Global to expose these kooks.
John Crosbie wrote his final column in today’s T.O. Sun. ‘We must all stand against terror’
He says; “…the safety and security of Canadian citizens can be much enhanced if those of Muslim descent, particularly those who immigrated here because they preferred the kind of society and opportunities that Canada offers, report on extremist activites in their midst.
They should be our first line of defence against threatened “jihad” terrorism.”
Are we confident that avenue exists? How well do we know these people? How well do they know themselves? Theirs sons , daughters, husbands? Would they disclose anything even if they knew it?
Don’t get me wrong I know there are many good muslims living here who would report on terrorist threats, but as with this Assem Hammoud, and the Canadian Terrorist cell, do we really know? Their parents were apparently warned by CSIS to watch their sons. Obviously that did no good. Besides which, if Hammoud was a professor was he scouting recruits? Passing on his views to young impressionable men, the so-called disenfranchised youth, arrested here in Canada?
Nevertheless, Crosbie is right, the good muslim citizens should be our first line of defense, and I think it should be up to them to step forward and set the example, since there is nothing us infidels can do or say to make a difference.
Crosbie could have gone further with the logical question of where are the peace loving and positive leaders who would draw together a growing body of Muslims under the most wise and fair grand imam?
Who have you chosen? Who do we look to for denounciation of violent acts and for the building of friendships?
Who is Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani and could he lead Muslims away from killing and bombing and forward to fainess and human compassion? TG
Jeffrey Simpson’s Globe and Mail “story”, Time To Get Our Heads Out Of The Oil Sands, is an unbelieveable PIECE OF JUNK, in my opinion.
For years I have wondered where G&M articles were coming from. They just didn’t make sense. But all my life I had no easy way of checking the facts. Well, no more. With the Internet it is easy to see the folly and call the G&M’s bluff. They, the MSM, no longer have any clothes.
For Simpson to be backing a loser/fraud like Kyoto is pathetic. Does he not realize that the whole world, even the Europeans now, are fleeing the sinking Kyoto Ship ??

Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, clearing up any ambiguity in previous calls to âwipe Israel off the map,â now used an Arabic word for the removal of body hair to describe his plans for Israel. âAll the conditions for the removal of the Zionist regime are at hand,â Ahmadinejad told an Arab Conference of Iraqi Neighbors meeting Saturday. For the first time, he employed the Arabic word ezaleh, which is used to describe the irreversible removal of body hairs or a womanâs virginity. …-

Apocalyptic signals from Iran worry U.S. intelligence
The U.S. intelligence community has not been surprised by Iran’s refusal to respond to a Western incentive package to suspend its uranium enrichment. Intelligence sources said Iran, following North Korea’s model, intends to delay any response or negotiations for as long as possible.
The European Union and the United States demanded that Iran reply to the Western incentive package of nuclear technology, fuel and aircraft by June 29. But Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said Teheran would submit an answer by Aug. 22.
The U.S. intelligence community has been trying to figure out why Ahmadinejad chose that date. Sources said the community was stumped until some Islam experts translated the Gregorian date to that of the Muslim calendar.
Then came the surprise that has the intelligence community worried. …
