As always, the willingness of certain Liberals to “bury the hatchet” in this, the legacy phase of the Chretien-Martin feud, hinges on the availability of an exposed back.
I suspect that I, and quite a few others, intend to write to this independent advisor and offer whatever assistance and documents he or she requires. And, personally, I think a judicial inquiry is an excellent idea.
Chickens, time to come home to roost.
Faster, please!

Delicious!!
Don’t suppose the PPG will find anything to investigate here or will they want to add to their threats to the new government!
It is this kind of thing that the new PMSH and caucus have been working on for months…where were you media?
Parked in some hallway?
It is my hope that the independant investigation can find enough evidence that the liberal party is deregistered.
Liberal Senator Mercer drags Aunty-American into the Act. He conflates the RCMP & Crown:We, the Liberals, own/neutered the RCMP & Crowns; how dare they disown us Liberals? +
The orders have come down to Senate to stop the Accountability Act. Liberals are very afraid that if this act becomes law it may hamper their real plans if they should get power again.
Senators’ concern could slow accountability law, Mercer says
Joint ethics officer called a hurdle
CAMPBELL CLARK
OTTAWA — The Conservative government cannot expect its accountability act to speed through Parliament by June, as Prime Minister Stephen Harper has asked, because senators have concerns about several provisions, a Liberal senator said yesterday.
In particular, the merger of ethics officers for the Commons and Senate into a single watchdog will be a “bone of contention” for members of the upper chamber, Senator Terry Mercer said.
That issue delayed ethics legislation when former prime minister Paul Martin’s Liberal government was in office in 2004, as both Liberal and Conservative members of the Senate complained that the measure was an improper attempt to place the Senate under the control of a Commons officer.

“I think that this is a further Americanization of our system. I’m not sure what this government finds wrong with the RCMP and the Crown

gimbol,
Deregistration of the Liberal Party is not an option here.
Please remember it is not the party that is corrupt rather certain individuals in it who are.
PMSH and his caucus’s fear and loathing of the MSM will come back and bite his conservative ass.
Harper needes to ensure the Liberal Party stays around.
They are so corrupt and morally bankrupt that they will provide a conveyor belt of political punching bags for honest Canadians to whack at for year to come.
Or if you prefer, a giant scab that can be painfully picked at for years.
The Liberal party is corrupt organization and I’ll bet that many of the senior officials would qualify for jail time if they were diligently investigated.
Not just the candidates and politicians but the party officials……

Are there any of these corrupt Liberal/individuals named here?

The Liberal party is now suffering the consequences of too many years in power and to little control on corruption by a weak leaders ( Cretien and Martin). I do think Mr. Martin tried to start a cleanup when he became fully aware of how messy it was, however, it was a hard thing to do without the party imploding from the political fallout, that would accompany this. Looking back, I have really have to wonder about the masses who continues to re-elect a complete moron (Cretien) to run our country. Is it any wonder that many Canadians have inferiority issues? I think most people who call themselves Liberals are just as outraged about the corruption as everyone else of different political stripe.
I think Stephen Harper is trying to set the record straight, right from the get-go, and he is trying to send a clear message that none of this crap will be tolerated. Let us never forget that Conservatives, as well as all other political parties, are not immune to the corruption of personal gain by those in power. I think Mr. Harper fully realizes this and he is trying to put safeguards in place, before it gets out of control. If we all think back a few years to the last years of the Mulroney years, it seemed that there was a new scandal each week, and many of these included people very high in governement( Sinclair Stevens comes to mind, as well as several others.) There are numerous other examples from several Provincal Tory governments.
My point is that corruption in government has no particular politics. Politics tends to attract power hungry people who are addicted to personal gain. I do think that the large majority of people in politics have honourable motives. Unfortunately, they often get painted with the same brush as those who who corrupt and pilfer for personal gain. It seems that the longer a party hold political power, the deeper the crud get. I commend Mr. Harper for dealing with issues of accountability immediately. I truly hope they are effective in stopping the misuse of position in government.
Grant,
Well said!
There is no end of of businesspersons that will do anything it takes to get government contracts and funding. These people will offer endless enticemnets and exert huge pressure to get what they want.
Since conservatives are just as greedy as liberals when money is concerned PMSH has to now fear his own ranks more than some old beat up political rival.
Blowell Fray said:”some old beat up political rival.”

Liberal Race to Get Crowded
Josh Pringle
Monday, April 17, 2006
The race to replace Paul Martin as Liberal leader is expected to become crowded over the next week.
At least three candidates are expected to announce their campaigns this week.
Sources say Liberal MP’s Maurizo Bevilacqua, Joe Volpe and Scott Brison will all kick-off their campaigns.
A report says Bob Rae is planning to launch his bid for the top Liberal job early next week.
The Globe and Mail says Rae’s advisors believe the former Ontario NDP Premier’s campaign kick-off will give him a chance to show his support.
The announcements would bring the official number of candidates in the race to seven.
Reports say former public-health minister Carolyn Bennett will launch her run next week, while sources say MP Ken Dryden is gearing up for an announcement. +

Kinsella is in melt down mode trying to sanitize decades as one of the dirtiest political operators ever….he’s lashing out at anyone who tanked his path to stardom…both Martin and Chretien apparatchiks kept this rabid dog on a leash….now it’s payback time for this punk.
Pathetic, vindictive but predictable genetic librano behavior.
How does Warren keep the pile of his key bord.
Maz2 You are too long winded, why repeat stuff that we have already seen?
re mercers comments, I am sick and tired of hearing “Americanisation” being used as a stick.healthcare another opportunity.Anyone who uses that expression to win an argument instantly loses credibility. Are all things American bad? is that their position?
Does that conversely make all things British good?
The senate is often referred to as the place for sober second thought obviously not in this case!
“The Liberal party is now suffering the consequence of too many years in power.”
Another lazy and cliched sound bite. Objectively, how does a few terms in office translate into crime? It seems to me that most of the Liberal leaders, ministers and bureaucracy were predisposed to crime in the first place through an arrogant sense of entitlement. They then created the perfect environment, with the use of the Liberal propoganda machine – the media – to bilk the public, revise history, reduce democracy and socialize the country to their own ends. All as an extension of the Trudeau legacy.
The fish stinks from the head down.
Justice would require that Chretien, Martin, et al, do significant jail time and be historically disgraced as a black mark on Western democracy.
Anything anybody can do to expedite the matter, I at least would applaud.
Blogwell Fray:
Political Parties actions are reflected by their leader.
A corrupt leader does not want honest deputies, those deputies do not want honest assistants for rather obvious reasons.
Harper is an honest, uncorrupted and uncorruptable individual. Plus he is a far sight smarter that his adversaries give him credit for, and that is why despite best efforts to paint him as “scary” and with a hidden agenda, he sits as PM today.
Chretien, Martin and Mulroney were corrupt, hence the scandals that happened on their watch.
That is not to say that there will not be scandal or corruption in the Harper government. The difference will be that the scandal will not originate in the PMO and those involved will be dispatched very quickly. End of story.
ward I agree . Could it be that Chretien, Martin,Mulroney are/were “Power Corp” Puppets that there was corruption involved??
I agree with several previous comments about Mr. Harper not being corrupt, however, I do not think for a moment that the bureaucracy of Parliament Hill, doesn’t still contain some weasels. All I am saying is that I think Mr. Harper is starting off on the right foot, and I wish him all the best. I hope he can be the first in a long line of Prime Minister’s that can clean up the bureaucracy of these scumbag bottom feeder types that live off all of us and jump at the chance to receive personal gain when it is opportune.
Consider the recent moans from the Parliamentary press over changes in how they will deal with the PM and his cabinet. They were so vocal because they could see that they were losing some power and some chance to regulate the process of reporting the matters of government to the people. The same moans will come from the bureaucratic service when they see how serious Mr Harper is in cleaning up they way they do business. They will use every method that is available to them to deflate this government when they see that their power is being watched, reduced and regulated. I predict that it is just a matter of time before this government will have to face some form of scandal, whether real or preceived, and the source will most likely come from an envelope that has been slid under the door of an opposition member by some disgruntled bureaucrat.
The rats will smell danger and retreat into the security of the bureaucracy for a period of time, but they will resurface again.
It is dangerous for anyone to think that the Conservative cause is immune to corruption. I tend to agree that it probably has more immunity than the other political parties, but it will most likely raise it’s ugly head again when an opportune time appears.
Call me crazy, but I’ve never seen any hard evidence of Martin being corrupt. Sure he led a charmed life but it was Mulroney and Chretien who were/are the sleaze bags.
That’s because until a few weeks ago, Martin was Prime Minister.

From Davenport to Guanabo, Cuba
By CHRISTINA BLIZZARD
HAVANA Last week, as other government MPPs scrambled to explain the massive hike in electricity costs to their constituents, Davenport MPP Tony Ruprecht was holed up in a ramshackle house a few metres from the beach in a seedy seaside town 30 km east of the Cuban capital.
Sun photographer Greg Henkenhaf and I tracked Ruprecht down to Guanabo, a gritty town with no major tourist hotels.
Ruprecht, 63, is a frequent visitor to Cuba. Documents obtained by Sun Media indicate he has been to Cuba on at least three other occasions since the current legislative session started Oct. 11. His stays in Cuba totalled at least seven weeks in that 61/2-month period.
The travel documents show he flew to Havana Oct. 30 last year, returning Nov. 13. Other documents show he spent two weeks there from Jan. 29-Feb. 12 of this year, as well as March 6-March 20.
Reached in Cuba by telephone last week, it took Ruprecht many attempts to recall how many times he had been to Cuba since the Legislature started sitting. Eventually, he admitted he could have visited the Communist Caribbean island as many as five times since October.
We went through this already, he said.
I am not denying that I may have been four times. I may have even been five times, he said.
Ruprecht said he visits Cuba frequently to learn Spanish and Portuguese, so he can better communicate with his constituents. He also said he was visiting a friend who is in a coma. +

Martin, hmmmm. Most recent news: When asked the question about why canada gives $100 million in foreign aid to one of our main competitors, China – the answer was that much of this money was used to subsidize the Chinese shibuilding industry.
Google around and you will find stories on how Paul Martin’s CSL ships are being built in China – to the tune of $90 million.
Someone must have taken a $10 million cut in the middle and meanwhile Canadian taxpayers are in essence paying for Paul Martin’s ships.
Do you think the Canadian media will investigate any of this? If not we must then ask why not?
Again Maz – if you don’t restrict your off topic links to the appropriate posts, then I’ll start deleting them.
