A thoughtful column in the LA Times by an American Muslim of Pakistani origin: “Islamic truths”, by Mansoor Ijaz
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-ijaz18feb18,0,6492979.story?coll=la-news-comment-opinions
Excerpts:
‘…
The first truth is that most Muslim ideologues are hypocrites. What has Osama bin Laden done for the victims of the 2004 tsunami or the shattered families who lost everything in the Pakistani earthquake last year? He did not build one school, offer one loaf of bread or pay for one vaccination…
The hypocrisy only starts there. Muslims and Arabs have done pitifully little to help improve the capacity of the Palestinian people to be good neighbors to their Israeli brethren. Take the money spent by any Middle Eastern royal family at a London hotel or Geneva resort during one month and you could build enough schools and medical clinics to take care of 1,000 Palestinian children for a year. Yet rather than educate and feed Palestinian and Muslim children so they may learn to settle differences through dialogue and debate, instead of by throwing rocks and wearing bombs, the Muslim “haves” put on a few telethons to raise paltry sums for the “have nots” to alleviate the guilt over their palatial gilded cages.
The second truth one that the West needs to come to grips with is that there is no such human persona as a “moderate Muslim.” You either believe in the oneness of God or you don’t. You either believe in the teachings of his prophet or you don’t. You either learn those teachings and apply them to the circumstances of life in the country you have chosen to live in, or you shouldn’t live there…
In fact, the most glaring truth is that Islam’s mobsters fear the West has it right: that we have perfected the very system Islam’s holy scriptures urged them to learn and practice. And having failed in their mission to lead their masses, they seek any excuse to demonize those of us in the West and to try to bring us down. They know they are losing the ideological struggle for hearts and minds, for life in all its different dimensions, and so they prepare themselves, and us, for Armageddon by starting fires everywhere in a display of Islamic unity intended to galvanize the masses they cannot feed, clothe, educate or house.
This is not Islam. And the faster its truest believers stand up and demonstrate its values and principles by actions, not words, the sooner a great religion will return to its rightful role as guide for nearly a quarter of humanity.’

“In other news, a member of the British House of Lords, Lord Alfred Wimper-Pusswillow, has called for the British Parliament to convene an emergency session to consider urgent legislation to ban the ownership, import and playing of all musical instruments, “designed, manufactured, played, represented in art, cartoons, or florid speech, before 1066, and the licensing of the current owners of all such instruments, and their reproductions, with a deadline of Guy Fawkes Day, 2007, to surrender such weapons to the authorities.”
Lord Wimper-Pusswillow was aghast at the level of fear engendered in the community by the wanton disregard for public safety the miscreant demonstrated. This would “be a good fit with the gun ban, knife ban, and the anti-social activities legislation”, Lord Wimper-Pusswillow, noted, and has suggested that maybe its time for Parliament to consider banning all things hard, adding that “he hadn’t had anything hard in his hands in twenty years”. Yes, miracle more didn’t get killed in the pileup in Quebec. Granted while driving there I learned that you take the Max speed and Min speed and add them together to figure out how fast you should drive…and don’t use signals, gives away which lane you want to use…
err…make that Switzerland…Freudian slip
Yep, all it takes to prevent accidents like that is for people to slow down.
Its not rocket science. In the winter in Canada, it rains, snows, gets cold. Happens every year. But still people drive like its the middle of july.
Given that Team Canada has fallen 2-0 to the Swiss the trip to Afghanistan for PMSH would be more beneficial.
Since Team Canada woefully looks like SWISS CHEESE; as they have never in history lost to the Swiss, I have to grudgingly concede to my brother in Geneva.
The bloodletting in Afghanistan is real while the ‘bloodletting’ in Turin is only of the spirit.
Perhaps PMSH can emphasize Afghan democracy, and
save the “hate” for the hockey arena where it may properly belong.
OH THE AGONY!!! 2 – 0 to the SWISS!!! OH FOR SHAME!!! I am apoplectic, shut out by the SWISS!!! with 49 shots on goal!!!
Oh hang it all, I need to cheer up. Where in GOD’s good heaven is the SWISS chocolate??
Re: Quebec Accident.
It could (and does) happen anywhere. The accident was during an extreme windstorm that reduced visibility to zero. Trains were blown off tracks, roofs and walls were blown away and thousands of people had no power. The safest action would have been to reduce speed drastically and get off the highway.
The pictures were taken after the storm and don’t convey the power of the storm, which was related to the current cold weather in the West.
I still prefer our agressive drivers to Ontario’s ‘Passing lane? What’s a passing lane? I’m driving the limit.’
Jones oughta be flogged for defiling a didge like that. LOL bloody dag! Wonder if it’ll end up in the police auction, I need another for my collection. In the key of C if you please 🙂

Thanks for the post
You said “the faster its truest believers stand up and demonstrate its values and principles by actions, not words, the sooner a great religion will return…”
I would like to pick up on the point made about hypocrisy. We were talking with a Muslim lady, Norma, on another thread on SDA ‘In Need Of Wiser Editors’ – thanks Kate. Norma was making the point hat the west has oppressed and robbed the middle eastern countries. It was pointed out that you don’t have to look any farther that the Sheiks, Sultans, Emirs etc of the region to find out who is robbing and oppressing the people. When you look at the palaces, cities and edifices built to the honor and glory of a man like Saddam you soon see where the money has gone and why the children have no bread, the education is so poor etc. One wonders if the leaders feel it an advantage to keep the population poor and uneducated as the monies coming in are squirrelled away in Swiss bank accounts and spent on lavish lifestyles.
In dialoguing back and forth with Norma it became obvious that she feels that she and her family have been victomized by the west {and Israel). This victom mentality seems to run pretty deep in many of these people. I wish that Norma had come back on again as I think it is important that we have some dialogue. It doesn’t seem like there is much appetite for it at the higher levels, Iran being a case in point. We need to have a better understanding of one another and our values.
Norma seemed to have a very pessamistic view of the future with very little hope for improvemnet. She spoke of things getting sorted out on “judgment day” It is too bad that there isn’t more will to sort these things out in the here and now.
She had said at one point that the Muslim community that she is a part of do not see Bin Laden as a Muslim. I think her words were “he is no Muslim.” My questions are “If that is so, where is the outrage?”, “Why isn’t a holy jihad launched against this infidel who has hijacked their faith?” It seems to me that everything that he and his followers have done, they have done in the name of “Allah”. The terrorists by all accounts were reading and quoting the Koran. As the terrorists crashed into the trade centers they were chanting Muslim sayings. They claim Mohammed as their prophet. Why are Osama Bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, al Zarquoui etc. not named as blasphemers by the moderate Muslim population. Bin Laden and company seem to be hero’s of the faith in their violent hatred of the west. I know that is a sweeping term but they have lumped everything together in their rhetoric. I just don’t understand why the Muslim community is so quiet. The silence is deafening.
So long as we continue as two solitudes with hate as a dividing line, there will be no progress. I wish that there were strong leaders on both sides of the chasm that could open a reasoned dialogue but it seems that the extremists have captured the attention of the press and have the loudest voices at present. Ordinary people on both sides need to reach out and try rto better understand the issues on both sides. It is not helpful when the extreme nutcases in the west come out with their tidbits of wisdom and say “Nuke ’em all” either. Unless something changes we are headed down the slippery slope and may find it impossible to claw our way back up.

Cathy Seipp Gets LGF
Thanks to Cathy Seipp for her much-appreciated words of support at National Review Online, responding to a hit piece on yours truly that appeared in Los Angeles magazine: Catherine Seipp: Los Locos.
What really irritates me is Smiths received wisdom about Pajamas Media partner Charles Johnson, the Los Angeles web designer and jazz musician who famously typed up those CBS memos into Microsoft Word for his megablog Little Green Footballs. Constitutionally protected hate speech, Smith calls LGF.
Im losing patience with this notion, surely one of the most successful media Big Lies of the past few years, that Charles runs a racist hate site. By now its been repeated so often that even normally reasonable people believe it.
This hate speech is doggedly pointing out what regularly gets done in the name of Islam, Religion of Peace. One of Charless first posts returning to this theme after Rathergate, for instance, was a link to a story about a Bangladesh madrassah teacher who chopped off the ears of 17 students for not reading their textbooks loudly enough.
If that makes him a racist hater, then I suppose Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali refugee and Dutch politician whose campaign against Islams mistreatment of women means she now needs round-the-clock armed protection, is also a racist hater.
At least R. J. Smith didnt speculate that Charles Johnson is a drunk racist hater. via LGF. +

Muslim Protesters: “God Bless Hitler”
Well if they really knew Hitler didn’t give a tinker’s damn about God they wouldn’t be holding up such a sign. Notwithstanding the “Gott Mit Uns” (God With Us) on german Wehrmacht belt buckles; active faith of any non-Nazi kind was actively discouraged. After Jews, Catholics and Protestants were second on the “hit” list.
This sign can only feed into the extremists position in the Muslim community that suggests they get rid of all the JEWS and ISRAEL. Code for supporting Hamas and Iranian President Ahdminejad(sp?) to “wipe Israel off the map.”
So if the Holocaust didn’t occur, according to them, they will make sure the Holocaust does occur. Welcome to the politics of hate. Remember hate doesn’t have to be rational, hence the idiotic sign.
All brought to you by someone whose family formerly numbered among the HUNS. Instead of calling their leaders to task for the rubbish they have created and monies they have plundered; it is of course the Jews fault again.
Scapegoating is just so easy when you appeal to the basest elements of the “predator inhumane” animal psyche.
Of course the real shit is who controls the money, who is in, who is out. Same old drivel, different century and if you keep the populace stupid enough they will buy the justificatory garbage. The ideology framework is just there to “pimp the ride” for the elite who control the money supply and commodities for sale.

Churches sacked, at least 15 dead, in Nigeria Prophet drawings protests

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) – Nigerian Muslims protesting against caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad attacked Christians and burned churches Saturday in violence that left at least 15 people dead, police and residents said.
Troops and police reinforcements were deployed to restore order in the northeastern city Maiduguri, where 15 Christian churches were burned, said Nigerian police spokesman Haz Iwendi.
Chima Ezeoke, a Maiduguri resident, said the protesters attacked and looted shops in the city owned by minority Christians, most of them with origins in the country’s south.
“Most of the dead were Christians beaten to death on the streets by the rioters,” Ezeoke said. +

Yes, Maranatha, the Palestinian Muslim named Norma has reason to think that Judgment Day will resolve everything in a suitable fashion. You have to know what their Judgment Day is. This is from the Memri webpage (Middle East Media Research Institute):
“If you read the column by Khaled Mash’al in today’s Guardian, you will encounter something completely different from the old Hamas discourse. They used to swear, by the sword and the Koran, to annihilate Israel. But today he wrote things that are completely different. He wrote: “We have no problem with Israel, our conflict is not a religious one.” Hamas was established on the basis of the idea that the conflict is religious. There is even a Hadith that says that Judgment Day will come only when the Muslims kill the Jews, and then every tree will says: There is a Jew behind me, Oh servant of Allah, come and kill him – except for the whatchamacallit tree, which is a tree of the Jews. This Hadith is popular among Islamists, and appears in all the Islamist literature. All the Islamist literature refers to the annihilation of Israel, and to the Islamists’ divine promise to fight and annihilate the Jews, and to destroy Israel.”
Possibly the Muslims carrying the God Bless Hitler signs are aware that Arafat called Haj Amin al-Husseini “our hero”. They might also be aware that as Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, he supported the Nazis.
Before his appointment by the Palestine High Commissioner in 1922, “there were active Arab factions supporting cooperative development of Palestine involving Arabs and Jews. But al-Husseini would have none of that; he was devoted to driving Jews out of Palestine, without compromise, even if it set back the Arabs 1000 years.” The above is taken from http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_mandate_grand_mufti.php
Much more on the Nazi connection can be found on http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=35563 that might account for the sentiment expressed on the signs.
The problem is that the Palestinians want to get credit for turning in $50 million worth of old Coke bottles. The State Department has announced that they are looking into the redemption as it appears that there is no expiration date printed on the wasp shaped bottles.
It kinda answers the question about why “Mein Kampf” is flying off the shelves in Muslim circles and is a best seller in many areas of the Middle East.

http://www.colbycosh.com/#disu
Excerpts:
‘It’s official: the besweatered whitebread leadership of the United Church of Canada has just immolated the last of its credibility in an effort to pursue ecumenism to the gates of Mecca. The publication of the Danish Muhammad cartoons in the Western Standard provoked the UCC to fire off an open letter to two handpicked representatives of the Muslim community:
“On behalf of The United Church of Canada we wish to express to you and through the Council of Imams, to the Islamic communities of Canada, our deepest regret that the name of Muhammad has been so tragically misused in the depictions of cartoons first published in Europe, but now also in Canada.
We believe that the intention of publishing the cartoons has little to do with freedom of expression and much to do with incitement to racial and religious hatred. …The answer to your question of “why publish such cartoons?” we believe is simply racial hatred. In other forms it has been called Islamophobia.”..
I wonder, for example, whether the UCC would have raced so quickly to weigh in if the editors and publishers of the Standard and the JFP had been UCC members in good standing? That seems improbable, doesn’t it? In view of the United Church’s admitted history of anti-Semitism,

Aw, come on, Mark. You’re better than this. Are you seriously arguing that people should be immune from criticism by virtue of being Jewish? That’s preposterous.
Dr.Dawg: A closer read would indicate that Colby Cosh was asking the question. I posted the comment so see if there would be any reaction. Perhaps Mr Cosh should simply have called the UCC leaders “insensitive” rather than accusing them of
“Jew-bashing”.
In any case “Islamophobia” is not “racial hatred” (which is a correct term in the context of Jews), Muslims not being a race. The usual category confusion.

Dr.Dawg: Indeed in 1998 the UCC did seem to understand that Muslims are not a race:

“…
The United Church of Canada is committed to the venture of inter-faith dialogue and understanding, and this includes a special emphasis on relations among Jews, Muslims and Christians. Thus we were heartened by recent remarks of Mohamed Elmasry, President of the Canadian Islamic Conference, underlining the cross-racial, cross-cultural nature of Islam. We believe that the positive spirit of both the Koran and the Bible endorse respect for all people as created in the image of God.”
A search of the UCC website, and a wider Google search, reveal no official expression of regret (such as that in the open letter to the Islamic Council of Imams)

over Mr Elmasry’s 2004 statement that it was justified for Palestinian suicide bombers to kill any adult Israelis.

So perhaps Mr Cosh is right in suggesting the UCC may have something of a double standard.

The internal probe did uncover previously unreported contacts with non-Finance officials.
For example, Rob Stewart of the financial sector policy branch attended morning meetings that day with the Investment Dealers Association and with the Ontario Securities Commission which, ironically, conducts investigations into suspicious market activity.
Stewart also tipped the Bank of Canada’s Toronto office that morning “to expect an announcement on trusts late that afternoon.” He met with three other Bank of Canada officials through the afternoon.
But the report says Stewart did not know the content of Goodale’s income-trust decision, only that it was coming later that day.
Finance Department spokesman David Gamble declined to comment on the income-trust issue, saying it would be “inappropriate” while the Mounties are investigating.
Goodale has already indicated he gave advance word of his decision to then-prime minister Paul Martin, who shared it with three aides, and to two cabinet ministers, one of whom – John McCallum – has said that he also shared it with aides.
A spokesman for the Bank of Canada said the RCMP has not interviewed any of the bank’s staff.
“So far, no one has been approached,” Christian Vezeau said in an interview.
The Mounties remain tight-lipped about the investigation, which is being handled by one of the RCMP’s newly created integrated market enforcement teams.
“Unless we lay charges, it’s unlikely we will issue any other public announcements,” said Sgt. Nathalie Deschenes. “It would be inappropriate for us to discuss this at this time.” +

As the story itself reports: “The existing North American Aerospace Defence Command treaty expires in May. Renewal talks have been under way for months. Senior officials from both countries, briefed after the Conservatives took office in Ottawa, confirm that the new, expanded pact will be signed…the pact was hammered out largely when the Liberals were still in power…”
In other words the Tories did not “plan” the expansion of NORAD (to include maritime surveillance). It was all negotiated under the Liberal government; the new government is simply going along with what the Liberals had already done.
Yet the headline, as so often in our media, is trying falsely to suggest that the Conservatives are sucking up to the US government.
