The author of proposed federal legislation designed to protect children from sexual predators is doubtful it will pass when MPs vote on it tomorrow.
Opponents of Bill C-313 — which calls for the age of sexual consent to be raised to 16 from 14 — fear the Conservative party is bent on “criminalizing puppy love,” Rick Casson, MP for Lethbridge, Alta., said.
“That is a weak argument,” he countered. “The right thing is a close-in-age exemption of three to four years.”
C-313 is opposed by the majority of MPs from the Bloc Quebecois, the NDP and Liberals.

This is again where the value of Whistle-Blower Protection law comes into effect. As a result of a few employees blowing the whistle, a study found the Nova Scotian Government Children’s protection services branch to be short staffed 133 care workers.

C-313 is a consituency grab. Even if it passed it wouldn’t cchange the horror of Court for the victim.
This consent thing gets real tricky in real life in court. If the guy he thought she was older than 14 (or 16), he’s got a case. And too many victims have to prove they didn/t give consent, often with no witnesses to back them up.
If it was your kid, you are better off to be patient, and then one day revenge.
If the Libs, Bloc and NDP want the ago of consent raised they would have done something a long time ago – but they have not made a single move in that direction.
Is this pandering to the “gay rights” crowd, who have been trying to lower the age of consent for years? The ones who howled with outrage as 61 men were charged in London, Ontario for child pornography and sex with minors under “Project Guardian”. The men were pedophiles but it was trumpeted as persecution of homosexuals. Former Ryerson prof Gerald Hannon, the notorious gay (and child sex advocate) tried to expose it as homophobia, but 85% of the charges stuck.
In the early 90’s the Toronto Aids Committee produced a pamphlet for the Toronto School Board, supposedly to promote condoms. It was supposed to be given secretly to children in our schools, but eventually made the news. It features a bunch of clean, nice-looking adolescent boys and the words, “Having sex with men can be as scary as coming out, but like using a condom its as natural as being gay”.
Read the sentence again, the sentence is about boys having sex with men and arguing that, while risky, it is natural. Fortunately the plan was exposed to the public and the pamphlet was eliminated. But the organization that fought against it (C.U.R.E.) was mercilessly attacked, harassed and protrayed as a “hate group”.
The only ones who have ever said that they want the age of consent raised are the Conservatives. I seriously doubt that they are playing politics on this one.
I’m sure some of the young wives in Bountful would have enjoyed some protection from dottering old farts in search of young flesh. At least Svend isn’t around anymore arguing for reducing the age to 12. Where are the old bags from the women’s groups? No protection for young women unless they vow to hate men forever?

Can you imagine, you get in trouble with authorities if your 14 year old does not go to school yet if he is busy having sex with a 50 year old you are not alowed to go into the bedroom and tell them to stop.

Lately it looks like there may soon be a push in Parliament to raise the age of consent for sexual activity from its current 14 to 16.
