Did a Canadian blogger help solve a murder?
Sharia in the news;

KANO, Nigeria (Reuters) – The northern Nigerian city of Kano on Tuesday launched a fleet of single-sex public transport vehicles to allow Muslims to comply with Islamic Sharia law.
Thousands converged on the Pillars soccer stadium to see the vehicles, which include 100 ten-seater minibuses for women only, 100 motorcycle-taxis for men, and 500 three-wheeler microbuses that can carry only men or only women at any given time.
The motorcycles circled the pitch in a jubilant parade as thousands cheered and chanted “God is greater”.

This has so impressed former attorney general, Marion Boyd, that she thinks Sharia has possibilities for Ontario.
The Canadian Coalition For Democracies wants action from Paul Martin.
Dar Al-Arqam Islamic Centre says there’s nothing to fear but the neo-con controlled media.
Meanwhile, on the “Below The Media Radar Watch”; Cuba stirs.
Via Kathy Shaidle;

“During my time with the National Organization for Women one of the (many) things that disturbed me during national board meetings was the fact that many of the women seemed to be allergic to bathing, and especially frightened of the concept of ‘grooming.'”

Well, that isn’t a problem for Some Girls!

  1. I recommend the Dar Al-Arqam “Letter to Paul Martin” for the sheer mendacity it represents. It is unbelievable that such naked threats can be tolerated in our so-called democracy: “Be a good boy and Canadians will not be attacked. But . . ”
Then again, in the war for our very survival as an enlightened western country, the Liberals, for partisan purposes, have dealt the enemy most of the good cards. Time to upset the card table!

  2. I’ve heard that the Tokyo subway has installed some women-only cars because of complaints about men groping women when they’re packed in like sardines on the subway cars.
When the Muslim share of Toronto’s population passes 10%, expect the same demand on the TTC to provide sex-segregated buses and subway cars, and for the feminists to get on board as well.

  3. Kate, you warned about going off topic. This comment points to the quality of compromise that ladies can bring to decision making.
Ladies other than Parrish, that is.
*Hans Island is ours* announces Canadas defense minister Bill Graham. The Danes express disappointment and present a letter of protest to the Canadian embassy.
What a pathetic and embarrassingly stupid example of primitive behaviour between two supposedly mature and moderate nations.
Is this nearsighted rigidity the example we want to set for China to settle differences with Japan?
Hans Island is closer to Greenland than it is to Canada.
Why does it seem like sharing the little three kilometer piece of rock is the obvious solution?
We couldnt ask for a better partner in the Danes.
Hans Island is the ideal spot for a joint submarine and hydro monitoring station. Is a joint venture with the Danes
So impossible? Heaven help us if it is.
A professor of international affairs was droning on and on about how we must assert our sovereignty over Hans Island on CBC Radio yesterday, sounding very much like a child earnestly grasping at a toy.
I realize that with global warming, Hans Island can become very important, but I still say freezing out the Danes is wrong. Joint ownership would be far more an advantage to Canada than otherwise.
Its a disgrace that this ever became a public tiff in the first place. What ever happened to effective diplomacy anyway?
Must we always behave like knuckle-draggers? 73s TG

Hands off Hans island: Graham to Denmark
    By ALEXANDER PANETTA
OTTAWA (CP) – Canada’s defence minister pulled on a pair of hiking boots and trudged on to a tiny northern island on a one-man mission to counter Denmark’s claim to the barren, frozen rock.
The sovereignty exercise on Hans Island happened this week during Bill Graham’s trip to Canada’s Arctic.
A helicopter set him down on the round, windswept island about the size of a football field, located between Greenland and Ellesmere Island.
“I wasn’t there to make some big dramatic statement,” Graham told The Canadian Press.

  6. Re: Hans Island
Wow, what a godsend for the Liberals and the MSM! If it weren’t for Hans Island, people would have to continue talking ’bout more important stuff, like maybe the rampant corruption in the Liberal party. By taking people’s minds off subjects which really affect them, once again the Liberals divert attention from themselves. I don’t follow Danish news, but I’d be willing to bet there is something more important for the Danes to be worrying about than this forlorn piece of rock, and that their government is also happy about the distraction.

  7. We (Canada) should forcefully lay claim to Hans island and while we’re at it, to Bouvet Island as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouvet_Island
Then we’d be at war with Denmark and Norway which would work wonders for uniting the country.
I would definitely send Carolyn Parrish for an extended stay on Bouvet (the remotest spot on earth) to seal our claim. I’ve been there twice and can say authoritatively that she’d fit right in.
She can get supplies from the weather team at Gough Island if there’s any food left afer the giant mice are done.

  8. Hans Island: This silliness has convinced me that RoC (because I feel certain Quebec could, to use the Americanism, care less) has truly descended to a state of nationalist idiocy worthy of the Balkans at their (almost) worst.
Half the front page of the Globe and Mail is taken up July 26 (and another big front pager July 27) with a story about the National Defence Minister’s heroic stop on the island. Papers publish tables comparing the military strength of Canada vs Denmark (Denmark! Who’s next? Slovenia? Luxemburg? Andorra? Liechtenstein? San Marino? Monaco?)
Tables that give figures for Canada’s Leopard I tank strength–how might these ever be used against Hans Island or Denmark?
If ever there was a country with which such an issue could be rationally discussed diplomatically it must be Denmark. So what does the Government of Canada do? Fly in Mr Graham in a mortifying piece of grandstanding.
Does anyone expect a Danish minister to make a retaliatory descent? I suspect the very concept of such a sovereignty visit would be absurd to the Danes. Gut-busting in fact. Pythonesque. Pushing up ice.
Had something similar been done by the US our so sophisticated media would have bayed with derision. And rightly so.
There are serious Arctic issues. Helicopter diplomacy is not the way to deal with them. Unless you are a Liberal government pandering, through an utterly ineffectual real-world gesture, to the worst in the RoC psyche.
And our media do not see the pitiful nature of this?

US, Australia, India, China and SKorea To Sign New [Secret] Climate Pact

US, Australia, India, China and SKorea To Sign New Climate Pact
Sydney (SPX) Jul 27, 2005 A group of countries including the United States, Australia, China, India and South Korea have agreed a secret pact on greenhouse gas emissions to replace the Kyoto climate protocol, a report said Wednesday.
The alliance, which is yet to be announced, will bring together nations that account for more than 40 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, The Australian newspaper said.
A government source told AFP that the general thrust of the report was correct, but that the line-up of countries involved had not been finalised. A formal announcement is expected this week.
The Australian said the group, to be known as the Asia-Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate, will aim to use the latest technologies to limit emissions and make sure they are available in the areas and industries that need them most.
The US and Australia have refused to sign the UN’s Kyoto Protocol, which requires industrialised countries to trim emissions of carbon dioxide, the byproduct of burning oil, gas and coal, by a deadline of 2010.
China and India are not limited by the protocol because they are considered developing economies…

Isn’t Gas and Germ Warfare banned under the Geneva Convention ??

  11. Fred…gas and germ warfare are NOT banned under the GC…contrary to popular belief…the Geneva Convention deals only with the treatment of POWs.How a country conducts warfare is free and open. It(the GC)was first thought of in 1864,long before the resoultion was signed in 1949.Nations are free to wage war in anyway they see proper, but the prisoners must be treated humanly. The Geneva Convention is for treatment only, not waging of war.

  12. All the Liberal huffing and puffing about the North (faithfully and hysterically reported in the Globe) is essentially an empty “nationalist” gesture aimed at winning votes. Without actually doing much practically.
Also if any significant part of whatever extra resources the Liberals may eventually dole out the military goes to the North, the Liberals will be able to claim they have strengthened the military and defended Canadian sovereignty–without actually adding much to the Forces’ ability conduct serious military operations. Which would suit the Liberals just fine.
The real issue in the North is the maritime passage question, not who owns the land itself (Hans aside). Canadian land is not claimed and could only be threatened in any event by 1) the US and 2) Russia.
Against the US we are powerless. The US will protect us, in any foreseeable future, from the Russians. So we do not need any major army presence.
What we do need is effective surveillance, aerial (UAVs?) and satellite. That really is not terribly expensive.
But in the long run, if the maritime passage issue truly becomes relevant as a result of the ice pack receding, nothing naval we can realistically do will settle it in our favour. The issue will be settled by negotiation and/or international judicial arbitration. Which we well might lose–the various sea passages in the Indonesian archipelago would be a relevant precedent and are considered international waters.

  13. Regarding the killing of the poor Brazilian in London: a question that used to be part of British Foreign Office job interviews:
“You are a bus driver on a narrow mountain road. A steep cliff on one side, a sheer drop on the other side. You have 40 people on board. All of a sudden a child appears out of nowhere in the middle of the road. What do you do? You have to make a split second decision.”
The correct answer is to hit the child.
Probably the leftie driver would swerve and risk the lives of the 40 people.

“Beards and scarves aren’t Muslim. They’re simply adverts for al-Qaeda” Amir Taheri
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,1072-1709661,00.html
    Excerpts:
‘But Muslims everywhere need to get to grips with a phenomenon that threatens all Muslim countries and Islamic communities in the West. This requires Muslim opinion-makers to take a number of steps.
The first is to discard the notion that anyone who is not a Muslim is an infidel and thus not a proper human being. Next, it is important to reject the belief that, since the goal of converting mankind to Islam is a noble one, any means to do so are justified. Muslims should accept diversity and compete in the global market place of faiths through normal channels, rather than ghazvas (raids) against infidel centres…
It would also be useful if Muslim preachers paid a bit more attention to God, which means doing some theology, rather than making speeches about Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq which are, after all, political, and not religious issues. The excessive politicisation of Islam has created a situation in which the best-known Muslim today is Osama bin Laden.
Islam must decide whether it wants to be a faith or a political movement. It cannot be both without being hijacked by Salafis or Khomeinists who have transformed it into a breeding ground for terror.’

  16. The Hans Island project isn’t about Hans Island. It’s a pogey scheme for civil service bureaucrats and their sycophants in the public-sector media-scam industry.

  17. On 2005-04-17 Queen Margrethe II of Denmark said: “We are being challenged by Islam these years – globally as well as locally. It is a challenge we have to take seriously. We have let this issue float about for too long because we are tolerant and lazy. We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance. And when we are tolerant, we must know whether it is because of convenience or conviction.”
Considering the spinelessness of the Liberal government of Canada, and the media and police-force walls they have built to prevent the CPC from ever forming a government, perhaps we simple meritocratic unelite citizens would be better off if we gave the whole country to Denmark.

  18. Paul Martin predicted we would be at war with Norway, if you recall. During services at Normandy, he inadvertently bragged about how Canadians had stormed the beaches of Norway. Well, Norwegians ought to know that Canada is one tough customer when it comes to blowing hot air. In fact, this government is the longest running show about nothing after Seinfeld (with all due respect to those who crafted ‘nothing’ for all those years).

  19. Tony: Good stuff. I once had a Danish girlfriend for several years. She, and all Danes, remain intensely proud that the Danes beat the Germans during a war in 1848-49–over, guess what, Slesvig-Holstein. You could look it up.

  20. I am new to this Blog. Why “small dead animals”? What does it make reference to?
And why do people refer to the left wing media as the Mainstream Media? (MSM?). Perhaps I am out of the mainstream – stuck on the jagged edge of a tree branch…

  21. Fred …nice site..BUT Red Cross..Not GC..again Geneva Convention only about treament of POW’s..never has been and never will be about how to run a war!

  22. WalterP:
smalldeadanimals I take to mean road kill. Likely to do with Saskatchewan. When I first saw the name, I had to read the blog and now I come here every day.
The entire media is left-wing, with a few small exceptions in Canada. Journalists have some sort of genetic defect that causes this. If they don’t have it they are given it at journalism school. We’re not sure how it’s done but I suspect the Mossad is involved with some of those deadly rays they have.
The MSM are referred to as they do the most damage due to their omnipresence.

  23. greenmamba…lol..walter..just have a peek at the poor little rodent at the left of Kate’s site. Now that I think about it,just what is that thing?ahhhh…can’t reason anymore..mossad death rays…arrgghhh

  24. Hi, and welcome WalterP,
SDA refers to Somerset Maughm’s round table who all derived great profit and wisdome out of constructive debate that began with a simple discussion of little animals accidently killed in rutted roads by horse and carriage.
MSM refers to the majority of Canadian Media who know how to please their biggest customer, the *Liberal Party of Canada*.
SDA will shed light on stories the MSM would divert your attention away from.
Example; The world gripping story of Hans Island is an MSM diversion away from more important stories of wasted millions by the Liberals.
If you were to spread all the one hundred dollar bills wasted by Liberals during the last twelve years over the prairie provinces,
how many hundreds of Hans Islands could you fit into that expanse?
Stories covered adnausium Like Hans Island, Stomping fit Parrish, and Michael Jackson are MSM diversions.
You are more likely to discover real news here on this Blogsite. 73s, TG
PS The real answer to Why SDA? is found left side of the Home Page.

  25. Walter P, another thing SDA offers is an opportunity for Americans and Canadians to discuss issues with each other outside of the controlled environments of international diplomacy.
I’ve been posting up here for a while and I’m happy to report that American and Canadian conservatives are almost identical creatures.
The MSM in Canada appears to be very heavily co-opted by Liberal influence. It’s ironic that many Canadians think that the US is highly propagandized. Actually, with the advent of conservative-leaning radio and Fox News, we have very robust presentations of both sides. In the US, the conservative media has been developed over the last 10 years in response to what previously was a ubiquitous left-leaning direction.
Now our side gets a lot of attention, and this is precisely what makes us aware of how leftist Canadian media is.
At the top I said Kate’s site gives Americans and Canadians an opportunity to speak directly. This is helpful to both of us. For example, when you consider the role that Captain’s Quarters played earlier in the year in Canadian politics, you’ll realize how we’re able to give each other cover.
Canadian laws did not apply to an American blogger, so Captain’s Quarters was able to go forward with the story, despite the fact that Canadian authorities just wanted everyone to keep their mouths shut.
Kate’s site and others make it a lot more difficult for politicians to perpetually lie to us through their sycophants.

  26. Marion Boyd’s position has been grossly misrepresented on Sharia in mediation. What she actually said was along the lines of: If they want to use Sharia as a form of mediation (which is already legal), then they have to realize that Canadian laws trump Sharia and that if a Sharia settlement goes against Canadian laws (i.e. freedoms for women) then it will not be allowed.
Marion Boyd was trying to rein in Sharia usage in Canada. It is already legal under the mediation laws, she wants it tightened up to make it perfectly clear that Canadian Charter Rights can not be infringed.
I’m not sure what motivated the original total misread by the press, other than sensationalism.

  27. Shocking end to grim search
MONTREAL – Within hours of arresting Kurt Lauder, 23, a baby-faced man who wrestles professionally under the name Kurt Lauderdale, and his parents, the Surete du Quebec’s search for the body of Shanna Poissant, 16, was over. (Montreal Gazette)…

    I’m dumbfounded. ..
Today Quebec police announced the arrest of Kurt Lauder in the death of Shanna Poissant, after her body was found in a shallow grave north of Hemmingford.
Dumbfounded because late last week the following comment was left on this blog:
“I was at a party near Hemmingford and was told that she was given extasy pills by Kurt Lauder and she overdosed. He then panicked and buried her body….Anonymus”
And, yes, I forwarded the tip to the Surete du Quebec
