Kate,
In talking to a Member of Parliament, I was dismayed to find that NOBODY polices the Canadian Senate! They have an Ethics Commissioner who answers to THEM. So, this un-elected body of snoozy , chronogically challenged, unwanted-by-Canadians waste of taxpayers money can get away with whatever they want and nobody in the country can challenge them.
What a life!

I declare it much wiser to choose an American Sirius as opposed to the soon-to-be Canadian version. The programming subtracted to add the Canadian content will make it a less attractive alternative.
Also, you wouldn’t be supporting the cbc or the crtc…

CBC newsworld had some woman on Friday morning who said the Harper had premature ejection this verbal assault went on for quite some time then they spent a few seconds on our supreme leader Mr. Martin. She said that Mr. Martin should get a date with someone. I wrote CBC saying that I thought their behavior was pathetic but understandable given the 10 billion dollars the grinding Grits had sponsored them with over the last 12 years. I went on about how the quality of their journalism had gone to a point where it was not journalism anymore. They had gone from a state of integrity and honesty in the minds of Canadians to one where the state sponsored CBC has become like those of Zimbabwae or North Korea where the state media promotes hatred of their opposition. I told CBC I thought that belittling someone, promoting fear and hatred of that person was un-Canadian and not worthy of the CBC, but I thought that they actions would cause their demise and that they had only themselves to blame.
Maybe their replacement would learn from CBCs mistakes and make sure they were balanced, honest worthy of the title Canadian, because that simply is not the case right now.
I regret that I unintentionally deleted my post to CBC because it was a lot better than what I have just written.
The Downing Street memos: fake but accurate.
The eight memos all labeled secret or confidential were first obtained by British reporter Michael Smith, who has written about them in The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times.
Smith told AP he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals.

Edward Bernays father of the modern PR industry
Years ago I read this article in Adbusters. Given the latest soap opera in Canadian politics I thought it would be good to get back to the fundamentals of winning elections. I suggest reading the article, but here are a few excerpts:
Visiting Edward Bernays
by Stuart Ewen
Born in Vienna in 1891, Bernays was the double nephew of Sigmund Freud. His mother was Freud’s sister. His father was Freud’s wife’s brother.
Bernays was also a far-sighted architect of modern propaganda techniques who, dramatically, from the early 1920s onward, helped to consolidate a fateful marriage between theories of mass psychology and schemes of corporate and political persuasion.
During the First World War, Bernays served as a foot soldier for the U.S. Committee on Public Information (CPI) – the vast American propaganda apparatus that was mobilized, in 1917, to package, advertise and sell the war as one that would “Make the World Safe for Democracy.” The CPI would become the mold in which marketing strategies for future wars, on to the present, would be shaped.
In the twenties, Bernays fathered the link between corporate sales campaigns and popular social causes, when while working for the American Tobacco Company he persuaded women’s rights marchers in New York City to hold up Lucky Strike cigarettes as symbolic “Torches of Freedom”. In October of 1929, Bernays also originated the now familiar “global media event”,”when he dreamed up “Light’s Golden Jubilee” a worldwide celebration commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the electric light bulb, sponsored behind-the-scenes – by the General Electric Corporation.
Bernays influence would continue to hold sway well into the post-World War II era. To put it simply, Edward Bernays’ career – more than that of any other individual – roughed out what have become the strategies and practices of public relations in the United States.
…
I left my phone number, and indicated that – should I not hear back from him shortly – I would call again. Two days later, I received a phone call at home from Edward Bernays.
It felt very weird, like in a dream. Given my experience tracking his historical footprints, it was like talking – via Dixie cups and a string – with a piece of history. His voice was soft, a bit hoarse, the voice of an elderly man, to be sure; but he sounded deft and businesslike.
He asked me about myself, my background, where I taught, the book I was writing. I told him that I was a cultural historian, with a particular interest in the ways that the mass media have crisscrossed with the experiences of twentieth century American life. I told him that I knew a great deal about him, his life and contributions, and added that I had recently published a book exploring the influence of commercial imagery on the contours of American society.
Without missing a beat Edward Bernays retorted, scrappily, “Of course, you know, we don’t deal in images… We deal in reality.”
A fascinating encounter with Edward L. Bernays had already begun. I had already been offered a lesson from the master. Ideally, the job of public relations is not simply one of disseminating favorable images and impressions for a client. For Bernays and, as I would learn, for many others in the field, the goal was far more ambitious than that. Public relations was about fashioning and projecting credible renditions of reality itself.

Memory Hold The Door: Belmont Club
Absolutely bogswoggling! A hero erased by callow youth. Some how, some where, some day, some way those idiots have to pay! Dearly. With the lives of their loved ones, too. Slow, painful deaths. Hopelessness. Bitter tears. No mercy. The only just outcome.
If we could but send our childish (regardless of age) radical Yankee liberals (with their Gitmo lawyer pals) to Canada, where they can freely participate in and enjoy the Liberal wet dream to their hearts content. We might then exchange them for the remaining conservative Canucks who despair of ever again in this century winning a national election.
We might all profitably occupy our time and simply wait out a decade or so, until the northern mob simply eradicates itself, and then when all is quiet save the bellowing of the moose, send ‘restoral’ teams back up north to bury the dead, reconstruct the place, and once again bring sanity back to the bulk of the northern hemisphere.
Margaret Wente’s Reader’s Digest article “7 Things You Cant Say in Canada”:
http://www.readersdigest.ca/mag/2005/07/cant_say_in_canada.php
Other things you can’t say about Canada:
-English-Canadian movies suck
-Canadian government foreign policy is irrelevant internationally
-Third-word immigration is radically altering Canadian society (note I am not saying for good or ill)
-There are three Canadas (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver), Roc, and RoQ (rest of Quebec)
-The senior federal public service has no political independence or backbone
-Canadian industry makes no consumer products that are widely recognized internationally
-Canadian businesses that operate internationally have names that conciously conceal any obvious association with Canada (Nortel, Bombardier, all the big banks whose name are now just alphabet soup, BCE)
-Canada has no reputation internationally as a country that is technologically or industrially advanced (compare with say, Sweden or Switzerland)–in fact most people abroad could not name one such large Canadian company
-If Canada had a separate foreign intelligence service (as opposed to CSIS operating abroad to collect security intelligence, or military intelligence operating in foreign theatres)it would be a complete waste of money since the government would have neither the power nor the inclination to do anything substantive with the information gathered
-Canada has no heroes who were entrepreneurs or industrialists (CPR excepted)
-Conrad Black is the perfect exemplar of Canada: a brilliant start but ulitimate failure
One could go on.

The Paris police HQ is to open its second world war archives and allow the public to see for the first time the full extent of the force’s collaboration with the Nazis. “At last, everyone will be able to research the history of their parents and families, calmly and in an appropriate place,” the Nazi hunter Serge Klarsfeld said after Pierre Mutz, the police chief, signed an agreement to transfer the archives to the Paris Holocaust memorial museum. “Everyone will be able to consult the original documents, discern the individual stories that are part of a bigger history. What the ??????????????
He quotes John Ralston Saul, he of Governor-General Clarkson’s soul-mate, as an inspiration for him.
Enough said.
This must really be pissing off the right whingers.
The Liberals vaulted to a 14-point lead over the Conservatives in popular support, suggests a new poll released to The Canadian Press.
A Decima survey last week suggests support for the federal Tories crumbled, putting them in a virtual dead heat with the NDP.
The Liberals were at 37 per cent support, the Tories had 23 per cent and the NDP were trailing them closely at 21 per cent.
Most surprising were the numbers in the critical battleground of Ontario, where the Conservatives were running neck-and-neck with the Grits barely a month ago.
Decima said the Tories had fallen 26 points behind the Liberals and were in third place behind the NDP. The Liberals had 48 per cent in that province, the NDP was at 24 and the Conservatives held 22 per cent.
Like I keep saying. The right whingers are a bunch of dead-enders and are responsible for dragging the Conservative Party into the gutter. People like Ezra Levant and Kate McMillan are destroying the CP with their non-stop trash talking and lies. If conservatives in this country ever want another shot at power, they’d best start distancing themselves from these idiots.
Happy thoughts to you.

Amazing, poor communications skills and all. While everyone slings mud, no one seems to notice Belinda has done the impossible.
Her loyalty is the building of wealth and power. Thus she is loyal to Magna and all the varied manufacturing plants that supply the variety of products that is Magna. She has won!
Belinda now heads the ministry that has the most potential to benefit her corporate interests. Namely the laws and conditions that apply to part time workers.
Part time workers require almost no pension and benefits overhead. They are the quickest growing segment of manufacturing labor.
So let’s wait until Belinda loses one before we fling dirt at her.
We think she has clawed her way onto the Titanic, but if the Martinites have bought off the Judges just as they have the MSM, then Belinda may be correct again. May not be the Titanic after all.
Ooh my aching headache.
They are getting away with murdering our rights to honest government and we are quibbling about SSM.
SSM only applies to a tiny part of our population.
We are the mainstream. Government is supposed to reflect mainstream priorities first.
The mainstream priority is to settle hundreds of millions worth of fraud and scams. We can deal with SSM when the fabric of government is repaired and ready to deal with lesser items.
While Belinda ruthlessly achieves her goals, we do not have so much as one picketer on the hill or in front of Governor General Clarkson’s mansion.
We should have pickets marching in both places with placards reading *Dissolve Govt Now*, *Stop this Fraud*,
*NDP not Elected*, * $4.6 Billion not Debated*. and more.
Respect your enemy. Could be a shark in disguise.

The amusing thing about My Blahg is that it loads in Opera like a plate of scrambled eggs – I don’t read it and forget he exists until someone brings it up.
It’s peculiar though, how someone would fixate on the blog of a private Canadian citizen as though I were the second coming of Ronald Reagan..
I don’t even hold a party membership.
