A bunch of stuff on my plate today, so I’ll leave you kids to play amongst yourselves for a few hours.
You know the drill – if you’ve spotted a good story or post out here, or have one of your own you want to suck a little traffic to, either track back to this post, or leave the url in the comments.
What I would be really interested in are bloggers out on from the left who have useful thoughts on how the Liberals can purge their party of the corrupt and their enablers so that Canadians on all sides of the spectrum can have confidence that our differences are simply ideological and not criminally motivated.
It’s not enough for the current group to lose government. Even a defeated Liberal party is a concern to Canadian democracy if the current band of movers and shakers are allowed to regroup.
I have some of my own, but there’s time later for that.

Purging the Liberal party in toto and charging those found responsible ( and by responsible the ones giving the marching orders).
The way things are usually done the lackeys and low lights are the ones to get criminally charged and get to parade around in the orange suit.
Jean Chretien and Paul Martin have their hands in these machinations up to their elbows. Not just in the details emerging from Gomery. ANY light shone on Gun Registry, Human Resources and , in particular, the ‘hands off’ Indian Affairs will no doubt see rats scurrying. Lets DO shine that light.
Before any change will take place it is mandatory that the Canadian electorate take an ACTIVE roll in what their elected representatives do in Parliament and how they conduct themselves otherwise.
If we do not as a nation want same sex marriage we have to tell our mps that in strong terms. In NO uncertain terms. If we do not want Kyoto we have to do the same. If we really want responsible government we have to be responsible voters, holding mps feet to the fire when they go off the reservation, thinking their loyalty belongs to the party rather than the constituents they are there to represent.
Shiavo and Pope are Not Real News for the America
The Terri Shiavo case and the Pope’s death just weren’t important enough for this D.U. column contributor. She calls for more doom and gloom, including friendly-fire deaths for armies that aren’t even in Iraq. You just can’t make this stuff up, kids….
Hi Kate,
Great Blog BTW. Folks might want to look at this story on this am’s CBC Vancouver web site. Nothing like suppression of free speech eh…. So it would seem that physicians are forbidden to be advocates for the needs of their patients. There is a lot more to this government suppression of patient advocacy and many subtle and not so subtle ways that they intimidate those who speak out but I won’t prattle on about it further right now.

The Liberal’s raison d’etre has been corruption. It is a party about nothing but self perpetuation and patronage, and has been 1980.
If your near a TV watch question period right now. Martin is explicitly ignoring direct questions on his involvement with the scandal and instead is talking about the conservative hidden agenda on health care.
Using our tax money as a sword for personal political gain, and using our concern over our health as a shield. How shameless.
The speaker directed him to answer the question and he still refused and started rambling about conservative hidden agendas.
I am new to this blog so I hope you don’t mind if I add my 2 cents worth….
Even Ed Broadbent later on in question period was castigating him for not answering the question.
This from an NDPer.
The parties are getting their ducks in a row in preparation for an election campaign which should start in May…Election will be on June 27 or so by my reckoning….
Martin will use the “privitization” of healthcare to scare the electorate into voting for the Liberals again…
Wonderful blog BTW….
“The Liberal’s raison d’etre has been corruption. It is a party about nothing but self perpetuation and patronage, and has been 1980
Don’t you mean 1890 ??
Mr Dithers is actually Sgt Schultz . . “I know nothing, I saw nothing”
Harper: “Mr. Speaker, evidence indicates the Prime Minister had lunch with Claude Boulet to discuss sponsorship contracts, contrary to his sworn testimony at the Gomery Commission. Will the Prime Minister finally admit that he knew Claude Boulet?”
Martin: “Mr. Speaker, the honourable member opposite should let the Gomery Commission do it’s work. The honourable leader of the opposition need not worry about having lunch in the same restaurants I visit…because he could not afford them”
Harper: “Mr. Speaker you’ll notice the Prime Minister failed to answer the question, so I’ll ask it again. Did the Prime Minister meet with Mr. Boulet to discuss sponsorship contracts..yes, or no?”
Martin: “Mr. Speaker…did I mention that I own a bunch of boats? Big boats…huge in fact. I fired all of my Canadian workers, and hired philipino’s instead because they work for pennies a day”
Harper: “Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister refuses to answer the question”
Martin:
“Mr. Speaker, unlike the Reform-Alliance-Conservative-evil-doers-who-would-destroy-Liberal-slush-funding,..er, Canada, I would like you to know that I am not wearing underwear”
Harper: “Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister has become a National Joke”
Martin: “Mr. Speaker, I often visit my ships when they are in Canada to make sure the latest shipment of cocain….er, coal is safely stored in the hold…because I RESPECT THE CANADA HEALTH ACT”
Speaker: “The Honourable Prime Minister seems not to be addressing the question of the leader of the official opposition…”
Martin: “Mr. Speaker, stop looking at me like that. It’s because I mentioned I’m not wearing underwear right? perv.”
And so it goes………..
Well, looks like they’re coming out swinging:

Hopefully the CPC is smart enough to point out that it was liberal mismanagement of the unity fund that has rekindled separatists as a viable political force.
Also, Cpt. Medicare is back:

As expected, the Liberals are positioning themselves as the sole saviours of Canada,
according to this article. Notwithstanding that this was the same justification for stealing our money, it demonstrates a point I have been making in many quarters: the balance of power held by Quebec is the underlies this whole mess. My belief is that we have had enough band-aids, and need a systemic fix. If the Liberals are correct, and their defeat results in another Quebec referendum, then I say bring it on. There is a limit to how much abuse one is willing to suffer before one finally pulls the plug. So let this be the legacy of Jean Cretien: the means does not justify the end, consequently the actions of the Liberal thugs resulted in the breakup of the country. Vive le Quebec libre!

Just a pathetic performance by Martin in Question Period today.
Simply more of the same: WE are the ONLY answer to Canada’s ills. More to the point they ARE Canada’s ills. We need to disinfect this country against such thuggery , corruption and disrespect for the taxpayer and for the country as a whole. Playing ALL ends against the middle has played itself out. Time for a change. Of government and the WAY we are governed.
There have been stories in the US press that by 2008 all Americans will need a passport to reenter the country after traveling to any foreign nation. This will include Canada and Mexico. I’m a bit surprised this hasn’t been discussed more on your blog since it could easily dampen tourism.
What used to be called Ottawa, is now The National Capital Commission, ( which includeds the former Hull-now called Gatineau). Is that correct? And you want a Democratic government: simple- move the capital someplace else, away from the Quebec border. How about Winnipeg?
absolutely fantastic

Is it just me or did http://www.freedominion.ca disappear today? I know they’ve been under attack, and I know they were taking heat for linking to Captain’s Quarters, but to simply disappear would be surprising.

I wonder if this is a bogus email I just received. It refers to the Ottawa Citizen as a source. It starts: Can you imagine working for a company with 300 employees, of which there are 30 accused of spousal abuse, 9 arrested for fraud, 14 accused of writing bad cheques, 95 have directly or indirectly bankrupted a company, 4 have done time for assault, 55 cannot get credit for a credit card, 4 have been arrested for shoplifting, etc. etc. The clincher: it’s the House of Commons MP’s.
Sounds too farfetched? Has anyone seen this?
this is good ..
should be followed up hard & fast.

Jack, pretty sure I saw the same email except where it was in reference to the Senate down here. They may have it at Snopes.
Tho except for the exact details, it’s probably close to the truth in either case.

It’s an urban legend.
