Saskatchewan Idol

Saskatchewan’s favourite daughter,Theresa Sokyrka, blew away both audience and judges on Canadian Idol – again. Initially I was a bit concerned that she wasn’t “pop idol” enough – more suited to jazz, soul – but the quality and maturity of her voice may prove my first instincts wrong.

And then, of course, there’s the Saskatchewan factor. Last week’s Idol show saw 3 million votes come in for the 6 contestants from across Canada.
SaskTel processed a million.
Heh.

  1. The glasses look is cool. Kinda reminds me of Lisa Loeb.
I haven’t watched any of this, by the way. Ben Mulroney distaste and not a convenient time for me.

  2. As a followup, CTV has asked Sasktel (a crown corporation!) not to release info about phone calls made… they agreed [?] … but noted that Wednesday the system broke another record.
Usually, the highest phone use occurs on Mothers Day, with about a million calls in a 24 hour period. With Canadian Idol voting, they’re equalling that in 2.

  3. Clever marketing on a subconscious level: green top; white skin. Green and white — a combination guaranteed to activate the Rider Pride gene and lash Saskatchewan into a frenzy of enthusiastic support.
