Thank you for the birthday greeting, Kate. For me personally the words you quoted are the most important in our foundation documents. Because they assert that none of our rights flow from government. Not from tyrants, despots, senates, presidents, parliaments, but from a divine agency by whatever name one chooses as perspective.
As a consequence, our rights do not belong to government either to bestow or to take away. It’s regrettable that we always have a fight on our hands to preserve these principles from the political left.
