    1. That was my first thought when I saw the news item on a different website.

  1. L-That is a really big memory stick. I wonder, what does it contain or is it waiting to be filled ?

  2. A sci-fi buff’s idea of a practical joke, presumably. I’m sure his mother found it hilarious—now she’s finally found out about it after all this time. Four years, did you say, Bob K?

  3. Inmates were cuffed to the metal mirror dragged it in the desert?
I am very good at imagined suppositions.
I frequently interpret our politicians double tongued language.

  5. Near Monticello Utah.
Drove thru there about 10 years ago, coming back to AB from AZ.
In 1958 ,AB cowboy Jerry Ambler was killed in a car crash and buried in the Monticello cemetery.
Other cowboys passing thru over the years have tied their “wild rags” to the cemetery fence.
Quite the sight! Old, new, all colors bright and dull. Probably a hundred of em.

  6. Has anyone else noticed that the previous post about the cartoon cannot be reached, and has no comments?

I blame our new alie… er, insect overlords.

  7. Looking at that image, it appears to be on a west-facing cliff east of the Colorado River which cuts a canyon through that area. On the west side is Canyonlands National Park (Island in the Sky section), and as I recall, there’s a short trail to a cliff overlook at Mesa Arch, as well as the larger overlook at the end of the road where the “island in the sky” begins to step down into the canyons.

So it occurs to me that the thing could be part of some scientific experiment involving lasers, as you could probably direct a beam onto it from those lookout points which must be 20-30 miles away.

Can’t really see this being a “stunt” but if so, that location is pretty inaccessible, would require some considerable planning, it’s not just a five minute stumble off a dirt road, it’s halfway down a massive escarpment a long way from any road access. It might be easier to get there from the river than the road network (a helicopter landing would be some distance away at least).

Something for Shatner to investigate perhaps.

  8. Like crop circles but unlike the climate – just another man made hustle or rich kids stunt.

Side note I picked “the” worst year to quit smoking, sigh. I saw that as a huge piece of chewing gum, Juicy Fruit ….

  9. Huh, I wasn’t far from there last summer……………..

Spent a week in Moab and then ventured south to Flagstaff.

  10. Is this just me, but I can’t see how the picture and the satellite image could be of the sam object? There is no gap in the rock just behind the block!!
    Just saying…

  11. It’s a marker for the UFOs that land at Skinwalker ranch, which is nearby.
