    1. I remember when a debate was an exchange of arguments and pointed rebuttals that led to a decision based on the winning most logical and convincing orator. Now we get Question Period or even worse during the election campaigns when the voters are just outright told what to think. I don’t know what they get for debate in France, or if it has more substance. For someone from the political party world saying if the populace is hungry to be heard then let us have a “debate”, it is this eras “let them eat cake”.
      I don’t like to see the violence in the alternatives but there it is.

    1. That video reminds me of the first dachshund my parents had.

      My father was a diabetic and he kept to a strict dietary routine, which included having an evening snack. But, the deal was that when he ate something, she got something as well.

      There were times when he was a few minutes behind schedule and the little lady would sit in front of the fridge and bark to remind him it was icebox raiding time. She always seemed to know when to do it.

        My cousin trained her dog to fetch her Dad’s slippers every evening, on command, when she heard her dad pull into the driveway, to the delight of her dad when he finally came through the door. The dog was so faithful and happy to see his owner that he wagged his tail while running for the slippers like a maniac. Doggie didn’t expect a treat, he just offered pure ♡ and wet licks!

        1. I might have mentioned this before, but it’s worth repeating.

          We used to have a cockatiel and she and that dachshund became a team. Whenever my father came home, the bird would see his truck first, because her cage was well above the floor. When she saw the truck, she would perk up and wait until she saw the top of the toque that my father wore. That was a signal to the dog to get ready.

          After she saw it bobbing by the dining room window, she would start calling and the dackel would run to the door to the back landing and start barking.

          When my father came inside, he’d open the door, throw in his toque, and the dog would joyously run off with it.

          My parents always travelled with the bird but, during one trip to where I was living at the time, she spooked on night. She seriously injured herself, only to die shortly after they all arrived. The dachshund really missed her.

            Meet Belle and Kringle, the odd couple. They are best pals. I am enamored how they interact and are so gentle with each other and seemingly respectful, even sharing food. Amazing!

            I regularly gaze at chickadees in the yard. They are not afraid of humans, one once landed on me for a few seconds! Lo and behold, last summer, shiny green, barely visible hummingbirds were zooming around like helicopters, after nectar from red geraniums!

            Back to dog and bird. Nice story except for the unfortunate accident. How sad, so sorry. Hope this video brings back similar good memories!

            I don’t think the two of them were ever that close as I was living on my own by then. The cockatiel was in the family for about a dozen years before the dog arrived, so the latter was a relative stranger.

            My mother mentioned that one day, the bird flew onto the floor and the dog jumped on her, pinning the wings with her front feet. Someone was severely reprimanded for that, even though her genetic ancestors probably told her that’s what she had to do.

            The dog in the video reminds me a lot of the last dachshund in the family. He’s also a short-haired mini and likes his bacon and eggs. He also unwraps his presents in the same way.

  8. I just binge watched three movies from the Library; ‘Atlas Shrugged’ 1, 2, and 3. It is very interesting comparing how socialist rule is working out compared to their theoretical.

    Basically, they were spot on. Although the perpetual motion energy machine was annoying. For an objectivist movie, how could they put something in the plot that ignores all the rules of thermodynamics?

    My dad tells me that the USSR banned the movie ‘The Grapes of Wrath’; because even in depression era America, poor people still had a car to get to California with.

      1. I should add, that on a recent visit to the Canadian History museum, I discovered that roughly 40% (my estimate) is devoted to aboriginal history. The Canadian History hall was redone for the 150th. Oddly the displays focus a lot on controversies and pay a great deal of attention to aboriginals. Now, there already was a First Nations section which remains in tact. ( That is included in my 40% estimate.) I visited for the first time (since the rennovation) over the holidays. My sense was that something was out of whack, and that the Canadian story has been revised to suit current political aims. Maybe it is just me.

    The Canadian Flag.

    He feels that Canada is a “post national state” with no core identity.

    He set up a border crossing in Quebec to create open borders in Canada, illegal in Canadian law but in line with what he feels are our UN obligations.

    He signed up Canada for the UN Migration compact to clear the way to resettle huge numbers of refugees, again superseding Canadian sovereignty and law.

    Why would he fly the Canadian flag at these rallies and not the UN flag?

    The Progressives have been making a concerted effort to change Canadian history for a long time. The city of Montreal regularly changes English place names to French names. Dorchester was renamed Réné Lévesque Blvd, University Ave. to Roubert Bourassa, Dorval Airport to Trudeau Airport. There are probably many more examples.

    Considering that Guy Carlton did a lot for keeping the French language alive it is most ironic that something as small as a street name was changed. See the list in the link that shows how many places have been named after the first Governor of Quebec. It is just a matter of time until Carleton University will be renamed Trudeau University, or after some other French or Native Notable.
