  1. “It’s spelled labradoodle, but it’s pronounced ‘mutt'”. It’s like an old Monty Python sketch.

    1. I heard … “designer mutt that doesn’t shed on your expensive furniture”

    1. Thank you for that. Too amazing for words…
      It simply is, ethereal…exquisite…

      1. You’re welcome.

I have a solar filter for my telescope. It’s great for observing sunspots if there are any present.

I wouldn’t have been able to see something like what was in the video as the filter I have isn’t designed for that particular optical frequency. Someday, maybe….

        1. I shall cherish this….
Looking forward to the comments about this video from others….
You ‘ll be celebrated for bringing this to us all @ S.D.A.
And…do let us know whether you spot any U.F.O.s.from your telescope!

          Smiles to You!

          1. During the solar eclipse last summer, I set up my telescope just outside the entrance of my building, partly because that’s where I could observe it and because I wanted to give some of my neighbours a chance to see it in greater detail.

During that time, I was a rather popular person. A lot of people looked through the eyepiece with most either thanking me or leaving with a smile on their face. It didn’t hurt that adding to the show was a large group of sunspots on the disk.

As for the instrument itself, it’s a cheap 100 mm diameter reflector with a 400 mm focal length. Basically, it’s a starter telescope which I happened to buy second-hand from a former colleague. (Her daughter received it as a Christmas gift because she absolutely had to have one, but she quickly lost interest.)

In addition to the solar filter, I added a clock drive and a camera mount, so I’ve taken a few pictures with it.

It’s not a great telescope but I’ve been able to see Saturn’s rings with it as well as the cloud bands of Jupiter. It’s rather fun to see how its Galilean moon change position from one night to the next and for the closest of them, Io, one can see how it moves during the course of an evening.

It’s fun to see first hand what textbooks and news articles discuss.

While I’ve mentioned that it’s not particularly impressive, it’s good for lunar astronomy. It can resolve features of about 5 km in size or greater. I won’t be able to see Apollo landing sites, I can certainly see the regions where the astronauts were.

I’m thinking of getting a better telescope some day or maybe even building one myself, if I find the time.

Nice to be able to share a telescope with neighbors and discuss the view. One tends to forget what is out there and how beautiful it really is. I once visited the now defunct Dow Planetarium in Montreal. I was completely enthralled by the overhead dome views. The live narration was by none other than Howard Simkover of Ottawa, formerly from Montreal. Howie has never missed an eclipse anywhere in the world. He and Louise Klein photograph and post. Their photos are just great! Howie was a former colleague of mine.

          Smiles to You!

    2. The Sun is the Pooh-bah when it comes to our climate. “I have no time” for anyone who doesn’t agree.

  2. Finally, I mean FINALLY!
Someone linked Valerie Jarrett to Spygate!

If Obama ran every decision past Jarrett, the decision to plant spies in the Trump campaign certainly was among the most important. Obama’s legacy was important to Jarrett, perhaps even more important than to Obama himself. She had to preserve it and ensure that the fundamental transformation of America continued. If Hillary could not win, Trump must be destroyed.

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich also finds it inconceivable that the spying operation was launched without Jarrett signing off on it:

    1. Valerie Jarrett as Obama’s Rasputin. Now that makes a lot of sense. This makes it quite clear now.

You could almost make a comparison with Butts being Trudeau’s Rasputin.

    2. Valerie Jarrett was reported as someone who “knows where all the bodies are buried” (in Chicago.)

“When Barack Obama said on the campaign trail, ‘Voting is the best revenge,’ was this what he meant? A quote allegedly by Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett has been spreading like wildfire online lately: ‘After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us, and they better be ready, because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded; the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress won’t be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over, and we have two judges ready to go.’ ”

  3. Did anyone else notice that CTV NewsNet’s lead story pretty much all day was about the Ireland abortion vote? Not an agenda there. No no no.

    1. CTV News has become unwatchable, much like CBC News is unwatchable. I mean, who in their right mind can possible stand Joy Malbon? During the day if I am not busy I watch BNN Bloomberg News, the only tolerable broadcast network in Canada.

      1. Is she any worse than the others? I don’t bother watching tv news. I have not watched tv news for ages. Newspapers these days are also awful. I mostly follow the news via online sources. It should be possible to ignore the news completely as most of it is transient.

      2. She was insufferable in Journalism School. Her nickname was Nojoy Morebone.

    2. It was disgusting watching all those smiling and happy people celebrating the ability to kill a child in the womb. What a disgrace.

        1. The founder of Planned Parenthood being a eugenicist who promoted sterilization of the inferior, and who wanted to limit the ability of “the coloreds” to procreate shows that you’re being consistent in your Progressiveness.

If there’s no one there then whose heartbeat is stopped by the abortion?

          1. Your first sentence is irrelevant/guilt by association. Your last statement is just question-begging by implication. Just because there’s a heartbeat, doesn’t mean there’s a ‘who’ there.

        2. I do know where no one is and it is where ever you are. You are a fool and as dumb as a bag of rocks.

        3. “There’s no one there”. It must be painful for you to agree with Trump about MS-13.

  4. The latest Ontario polls show … confusion?
    EKOS reports a dead heat.
Innovative Research shows a 5 point PC lead.
Forum alleges a 14 point NDP lead, with the Liberals half of what’s reported in the other two polls.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_general_election,_2018

We need to ask at this point — do these pollsters do their surveys on the same planet? Or do they make them up as they go along?

    1. When people realized they did not have to vote pc to get rid of the liberals, this is the result.

      1. Rand Paul might be the only senator worth voting for you idiot. Trump isn’t worthy of cleaning his toilet.

          1. I used to. John Tamny at Forbes has made very persuasive arguments in his articles that the fed is totally irrelevant to the economy.

    1. Well UnMe – Thank you for sharing that . It’s so refreshing you could actually find an item that somehow reflected poorly on something Donald Trump did . You and your likeminded cohorts persistence in promoting the narrative could be admired if it was not fuelled by an outright paranoia and hate of anything conservative , Donald Trump or common sense . The fact that every call on Donald since he announced he would run has been incorrect should not deter you . After all , even a stopped clock gets it correct twice a day ! The ” Duh ” part of piece is pretty salient . You should maybe stick with that one , if it isn’t above your pay grade .

      1. I don’t deal with ‘narratives’. I only deal with facts. Fact is, the Trump GOP has brought back trillion dollar deficits. Fact is, the Turmp GOP rejected Rand Paul’s mild attempt at budget discipline.

        1. You deal with facts? On a prior thread you were talking about AGW…. what happened to facts?

          1. Nothing happened. The fact remains that mankind’s CO2 emissions are almost certainly driving temperatures higher.

        2. “I don’t deal with ‘narratives’. I only deal with facts. …”

That’s your narrative, but the facts don’t support it.

    2. Obola took the National Debt from just over $11 TRILLION to almost $20 TRILLION – in other words he added more to the DEBT than ALL previous Presidents combined.

      and you’re knocking Trump? AYFKM???

      1. Yes, because Trump is president. That’s how it works. “BUT OBAMA” is irrelevant.

  5. Maybe they’re mutts but I’ve owned many Labs, still do. A LabxPoodle is a good cross.

At this point in my life I’ve come to the conclusion the pure bred dog business is in a lot of trouble. Someone used the word consanguinity here recently and it applies in spades to dog breeding. The gene pool in most breeds has become so inbred it needs an outcross. Conformation and health faults have become consentrated in many breeds – even working breeds.

I am actively looking for a pup and for the first time I’m looking for a crossbred. A Lab x. The ‘other’ side has to be a hunting dog, I don’t want competing instincts. I know this is a risk and if you get a good one your likelihood of replicating it is diminished but I’m tired of paying breeders top dollar only to have a dead dog at age 6 or 8. It’s happened too many times.

  6. The only democracy in the ME…

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-05-26/proposed-israeli-law-criminalizes-filming-soldiers-human-rights-violations

Proposed Israeli Law Criminalizes Filming Soldiers’ Human Rights Violations

A controversial new bill set to go before Israel’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation in the Knesset on Sunday would ban taking videos or photos of Israeli soldiers in the process of arresting or subduing Palestinians.

The legislation, if passed, could result in a punishment of 5 to up to 10 years in prison for merely recording encounters between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians.

  7. Once again our mostly marxist media is doing everything they can to trash the PCs. Whether they report polls taken in the CBC lunch rooms or quote those ever “reliable” but unknown sources that claim Ford is a nazi or wurst (sic) THAT is what they’re reporting. One leftist reporter was overheard stating, ” We KNOW the lieberal are goin down … now it’s our job to take the PCs with them!”

The ndp wil do what socialists do everywhere – BANKRUPT the system!! and NOW a promise to turn Ontario into a fully SANCTUARY PROVINCE!
    YEA!!!

The Embassy move made by “a strong America” was also a “recognition of the truth” of a longstanding Israeli policy, now fully endorsed and legitimized by U.S. unilateralism, of taking over and colonizing East Jerusalem, which began immediately following its seizure by Israel in 1967.
