  1. I think Eric makes some pretty decent points. And, yes, bureaucratic careerists were a poor choice to lead the effort against covid. In part it is due to the kind of people who are drawn to and survive in a bureaucracy, their primary skill set involves networking and kowtowing. None can call them visionary. It’s really not very surprising that they didn’t think outside the box or that their impulses were to circle the wagons. The greatest obstacle to Progress is the Bureaucracy. (I’m quoting but don’t remember the author; Edward T Hall or possibly Eric Hoffer).

There are a lot of great bureaucracy quotes:
Bureaucracy is a giant mechanism operated by pygmies.
HONORE DE BALZAC, attributed, The Harper Book of Quotations

Some third person decides your fate: this is the whole essence of bureaucracy.
    KOLLONTAI ALEXANDRA, La Oposición Obrera

Every revolution evaporates and leaves behind only the slime of a new bureaucracy.
FRANZ KAFKA, attributed, The Concise Columbia Dictionary of Quotations

    1. R.V. Jones “Most Secret War” P 32

“He warned us that if another war broke out there would be a disastrous period for six months while those who had reached high positions on inadequate abilities in peacetime would have to be replaced”
