The state of play: A majority of Republicans still think Trump was right to challenge his election loss, support him, don’t blame him for the Capitol mob and want him to be the Republican nominee in 2024.

  1. One wonders if the Republican Party will survive its betrayal of Trump. If Trump supporters stay home in 2022 in any number, most elected Republicans will lose their seats, and that will happen at every level, federal, state, and local.

    Of course, we will get a one-party (marxist) government for a while, and the Democrats will implement every crazy idea they have. Whether a conservative party can rise out of the political, social and economic collapse, or whether a new Dark Age ensues is the question.

        1. That’s what NYS calls no-party voters. I was one when I lived there (changed from Democrat partway ghrough the Bush (W) yeard. A lot of states call us Independent voters, as does my current Midwestern state.

  2. Just wrote to AmEx and told them I have changed all my autotransactions and I will not be using my AmEx card. I said I will not be canceling the card because I want to give AmEx a chance to reverse this obviously politically motivated act against the President of the United States but my card remains inactive until a proper investigation and the real cause of determined.

    I realize I am just one of millions of customers and they are probably sniggering up their sleeves at me but I needed to say that. Now onto the various Mastercards cards I use.

    Whatever happened to the secret ballot?

    1. They are not required, they are allowed. Registering with a party affiliation allows them to participate in party business. The anonymity of balloting ensures that even a person’s own party cannot tell whether or not they vote with the party. It is not unheard of in certain regions for people to register with the party they vote against, in order to have a hand in selecting the candidate of the opposition, the selection of the candidate being effectively the final vote.

    2. You have to register if you want to vote in a primary to select a candidate but you don’t have to declare party affiliation you can register as an independent.

      1. That is correct … however … many States now have “open Primaries” so you can vote for “the other parties biggest loser(s)”, regardless of your Party affiliation. This is why the CA Democraps created Open Primaries. The CA Democraps all voted for Trump in the 2016 Primary … because his candidacy was a JOKE … right? And HER nomination was essentially unchallenged. Now who were the biggest losers?

      Some states require party registration to vote in a primary election.
      Some of those states only allow you to vote in the primary for your chosen party’s candidates.
      Some of the states allow you to vote in any party’s primary, but only in that party’s election and only for their candidates. You cannot pick and choose from multiple parties. No one knows which party’s candidates you voted for, because all the ballots go in the same box.

      A lot of states like Minnesota have NO party registration process. At the primary, you receive a ballot with ALL the parties on it, but you can only vote for candidates in a single party. I usually vote Democrat, just to stir up things in their party. (That all started in the early 2000’s, when I voted for a friend on the Democrat Party portion of the ballot. He signed up for the candidacy on a lark. He only got 11%, but considering how he did no, zero campaigning, that tells you how pathetic the winning Establishment Democrat candidate was.)

      Everyone regardless of party gets to vote for the nominally “nonpartisan” candidates like judges and commissioners in the primary. They use that primary to winnow the sometimes multiple nonpartisan candidates down to two.

      The primary ballots are all put in the same box, and they are sorted out after the election closes. No one knows which party you voted for.

      Then during the General Election, everyone gets the same ballot with one candidate from each party for the position.

      Then there is the caucus system which is very, very public in making your choice known.

          Trump scared the Establishment Democrats and Republicans both by actually asking for Black votes. He really scared the Democrats by receiving more of them than the average Republican candidate.

          If the Republicans want to win in the future, they will need to be a party for the Middle and Working Class Americans. Because all the Establishment Republicans can no longer expect the votes of their fellow Country Club Members. The country clubbers, college professors, and new and old wealth don’t like associating with us deplorable types.

  16. Trump and his close group of advisors / family should all run for the senate in Dem controlled purple states in 2022. I’d expect they’ll win them all. Then retire Cocaine Mitch as Senate leader before running again in 2024 while leaving someone much less swampy and more Trump friendly in charge.

    And, I have made it known to more than a few people that I will be wearing my MAGA hat until it wears out. Then I’ll put on my back up MAGA hat. Wearing MAGA here in SW Florida is less dangerous than it must be in other parts of the country, but I still expect to get some evil looks but doubt anyone will try to take it off my head.
