Galt Pipelines, Inc

Toronto Star;

A month after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stepped in to resolve the impasse between British Columbia and Alberta over the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline his government has little to show for its efforts.

Trudeau’s offer to compensate Kinder Morgan — the parent company of the pipeline — for any financial losses resulting from the opposition of the B.C .government to the project has yet to be taken.

With our money.

  1. KM doesn’t need taxpayer money. KM raised more than enough equity and debt to get the pipeline built. Money is not the issue. The issue is the political and legal uncertainty around the pipeline.

  2. What is interesting, and is by now well known, is that the left-wing elites opposing the Alberta-BC pipeline are so anti-labour, so anti-worker. Chantal Hebert, albeit that she writes for the Toronto Star, is as astute observer. It makes for depressing reading. I have given up hope that any pipelines will ever be built. The elites are winning, it seems.

    1. “… the left-wing elites opposing the Alberta-BC pipeline are so anti-labour, so anti-worker”

They’re actually just so anti-Canadian labour, so anti-Canadian worker.

As always US wins, Canada loses. MAGA!!

  3. “Federal pressure on B.C.’s government to drop its opposition to the pipeline has yielded no positive results for the pipeline proponents. NDP Premier John Horgan’s government has now referred the issue of whether the province has the power to regulate the amount of diluted bitumen oil that transits through its territory to B.C.’s top court. It will take months before an answer is forthcoming.”

Premier Horgan can save the provincial taxpayers a lot of money on useless litigation by simply reading the the Constitution Act 1867
    http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/Const//page-4.html#docCont

In particular Premier Horgan should turn his attention to Section 92(10)(a) & (c).

    VI. DISTRIBUTION OF LEGISLATIVE POWERS
    Exclusive Powers of Provincial Legislatures
    Subjects of exclusive Provincial Legislation

    S.92(10)
Local Works and Undertakings OTHER THAN such as are of the following Classes:
    (a)
Lines of Steam or other Ships, Railways, Canals, Telegraphs, and other Works and Undertakings connecting the Province with any other or others of the Provinces, or extending beyond the Limits of the Province:
    (b)
Lines of Steam Ships between the Province and any British or Foreign Country:
    (c)
Such Works as, although wholly situate within the Province, are before or after their Execution declared by the Parliament of Canada to be for the general Advantage of Canada or for the Advantage of Two or more of the Provinces.

I believe you’ll find that the provinces are specifically proscribed from fiddling around with Confederation when the projects are “Works or Undertakings connecting the Province with any other Province”. A pipeline would fit that jurisdictionally quite well.
The proposed litigation is a complete waste of taxpayer resources and merely a stalling tactic.

    Prosit!

  4. In the month since KM announced their deadline for withdrawal from the TM project, this is the best plan Liberals could come up with? Throw potentially billions of taxpayer dollars at KM? Are you kidding me? This solves nothing and just proves the gross incompetence of this government. As stated above, money is not the issue. I have not heard KM ask for money once. They are looking for Trudeau and his band of gender equity dunderheads to come up with a plan that guarantees a clear path to completion, unencumbered by tree hugging fascists sitting down in front of bulldozers or chaining themselves to any equipment that moves.
What about throwing these protesting law breakers in jail for more than 5 minutes? What about bringing the army in to clear the way? They were called in once because of a Toronto snowstorm so why not? Use some imagination Trudeau. You’re too used to throwing money at everything, as evidenced by the millions thrown away in Quebec this week to buy votes. Just add it to the deficit, right?

  5. I agree with David Murrell. This pipeline is likely a dead issue. The leftists have won. They just need to sit on their lazy behinds and do nothing to win. This way Trudeau gets what he really wants and can blame the NDP that it has fallen through.

    I’m disgusted, myself.

    1. “This way Trudeau gets what he really wants and can blame the NDP that it has fallen through. ”

Yup. And Scheer, instead of fighting in a meaningful way to stop the stupidity, gets to keep on posturing and blame both.

  6. The Spawn wants the pipeline to fail and wants it to appear that KM is at fault. If not, why would he continue to force us to pay Butts to have his hand up his arse in order to manipulate the “PMs” mouth.

  7. Who in their right mind would build any processing, transportation, or manufacturing in this country knowing you may take 10 years to get any type of environmental approval?
I understand the need to be safe, but it has gotten ridiculous.
If we don’t get some more refining in western Canada soon, things are going to get ugly.

  8. It doesn’t matter that after May 31 KM takes its billions out of the country that the PMO decides to place blame on KM.
They can claim victory in that fight (which btw won’t be over just because KM quit one project) but they will lose an economic war and that one will have the outcome of the capital markets aka investor’s letting the Canadian market know on no uncertain terms that if you want some capital investment a political solution is required in the form of a more fiscally responsible government. They will also let it be known that they will make that decision in 2019.

KM never asked for a kickback or subsidy. They asked for a political solution, simply that they want the federal government to expend some of its political capital to remove opposition to the pipeline. Frankly the response from the PMO is like they are not even on the same planet. I have little doubt that there are some blu-libs in caucus that see the problem however the palace guard (Gerald and Katie) will never let them get a private word with Leisuresiut Larry.
I see the next few days will result in a paradigm shift of sorts.
There is this, the KM pull out.
Then NAFTA negotiations coming to a close without an agreement.
He can blame someone else all he wants, the truth will be the elephant in the room.
He failed to get it built.

  9. Justard is an imbecile, a prancing celebrity nit-wit that the Media use to distract the public. Don’t get me wrong the actor is as malevolent as they come, but PM Heinrich Himmler Butts has always made his opposition to the energy sector well known… KM has known for quite some time that the pipeline would never be built and they were right. If I were KM I would take the hush money from the gangsters and move on.

  10. The Liberals aren’t really in favor of this pipeline expansion, or any pipeline expansions out of Alberta. Anyone notice that a Quebec pipeline (and other energy intensive projects) get a complete exemption from downstream emmissions requirements whereas western pipelines and Energy East are evil incarnate that must jump through ever more hoops for approvals . Quebec foreign oil imports won’t pay a carbon taxes either. This is all about sabatoging Alberta oil while pretending to give a shit…a shit show.

The Liberals are now crowing that the CPC didn’t get any oil to tidewater but the CPC did at least get Alberta oil to market and tried like hell to get it to an ocean. As I see it, the Liberals had three potential pipeline tidewater projects – Energy East, northern gateway, trans mountain. They killed Energy East by decree, Northern Gateway by regulation and have proceeded to royally mess up Trans Mountain. Looks like the Liberals failure rate is 2 out of 3 and the third pipeline is also failing. A spectacularly stunning failure rate, by design. The feds are mangling rail transport too. Good thing Alberta NDP went for that social licence carbon pricing and renewable energy to get pipelines built — how’s that working?

  11. Trans Mountain’s best chance at being built is if KM backs out and the Liberals can give the pipeline (with the just announced taxpayer backed financial guarantees) to cronies who have a good supply of brown paper bags or a company run by close friends and family of a Liberal MP. Liberals are the party of Adscam and nepotism after all.

  12. There is an easy solution for Alberta. Negotiate a merger with Montana and good bye to all of our problems with this broken country. In return, Montana will insist we leave Redmonton with British Columbia which will be a difficult sell to the rest of Alberta. Sarc off!

  13. The green theocracy sees the killing of this pipeline as the beginning of the end for the Oil Sands which is considered thoroughly evil to them and in Canada has always been regarded by Eastern interests along with the institutional left as an impediment to their divine right to rule over the West. Today Green Peace staged a march in Quebec against the pipeline complete with “actors” known only to themselves. That’s why killing the KM expansion is the most important issue for the international green theocracy that they currently have in their anti-industrial pipeline.

  14. Meanwhile the flaccid Conservative Party called for a donation. I laughed and slammed down the phone. Are there no real leaders out there anymore? Scheer is Joe Clark 2.0 and will do nothing but attempt to appease the left. He makes Stephan Dion look like a Berzerking Erdogan. Canada is doomed. More immigrants means lower IQ, and less appreciation of the efforts to get to this point in time. The leadership is a reflection of the populace.

  15. Do everything you can to stop the pipeline, while feigning public support.

Reagan was right, tax it, regulate to make it stop moving, then subsidize it.

How about getting the frig out of the way eh?

  16. The Lieberals forget that private sector workers also have a large sense of accomplishment. They like to start a job and finish it and feel good about what they’ve done. It’s government workers who don’t give a sh!t as long as they get paid. I don’t know many companies that enjoy spinning their wheels for a decade even while they’re getting paid when there’s nothing to show for it.

If you want to end this nonsense make sure the guarantee gets paid out of the Federal transfer payments to BC.

  17. The simple fact of the matter is, no pipeline will ever be built in Canada again.

Anyone who believes anything different, is an absolute and total moron.

If you want a pipeline, the only way is to not be part of Canada.

Anyone who is not talking separation, does not want pipelines. And people who believe liars? I will leave that for you.

  18. Alberta has had a hundred chances and billions of reasons to leave this gross marriage.. but we chose to stick it out. After all the treasure we’ve turned over to Ottawa and Quebec, not only do they refuse to offer any help via constitutional enforcement, but they actively go out of their way to step on our throats.

You have to wonder just who the idiots are.

    1. I don’t wonder. Not at all. The milch cow, published December 15, 1915. Nothing has changed, nothing ever will.

  19. It’s not Justin’s fault. It’s ours.

The Israelis have the good sense to pen in their savages. If our native reserves were surrounded by concrete walls and barbed wire, and the natives kept as far away from the path of the pipeline as possible, construction would have already begun.

No, chief, you can’t have money for whisky. Not yours.

  20. Let’s see if I’ve got this right KM is paid back the money they lost, tax payer money of course. The commies on the left coast won’t have to put up with the evil pipeline. JT gets to feel like he tried but doesn’t tick off any of his lefty friends. Oh ya and JT knows that he has won the approval of his father, “well done son you’re as good at screwing the west as I was.”

Wait for us Alberta, while you’re joining Montana, Saskatchewan will join North Dakota.

  21. All the Liberals did today was concede to what a Canadian court would decide later: politicians screwed the pipeline project with politics and therefore the taxpayer must pay the costs to the company for their loses. It’s far from what the media narrative is. But of course.

  22. UCP Leader Jason Kenney under fire after calling Trudeau ‘empty trust-fund millionaire’, Jason Kenney is standing by comments he made about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, including calling him an “empty trust-fund millionaire who has the political depth of a finger bowl.” Kenney went on to say Trudeau is “one of the worst prime ministers for Alberta in our history.”

    Said Kenney:
“The guy was my critic in opposition for three years. I don’t think he has the foggiest idea what’s going on.
“I know Justin. He doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. This guy is an empty trust-fund millionaire who has the political depth of a finger bowl.
“He can’t read a briefing note longer than a cocktail napkin, O.K.”

    http://calgarysun.com/opinion/columnists/bell-trudeau-in-calgary-takes-on-critics-kenney-rips-him

Of course the mass media cartel is beside themselves that somebody would say those things about their darling empty head.
Now watch how they are going to damn Kenney all the way to hell.

It’s just too bad that the sweetheart Sheerer has not got the guts to say those and other things to clear the air.

    1. The Media will protect Justard at every turn… As we saw in the last election Justard is untouchable, he doesn’t have to defend himself or his ruinous policies from those that oppose him because the Media is there to protect the moron from scrutiny and criticism. It is sickening to live in such a corrupt nation where we literally have a retarded guy acting as PM and the Media attacks anyone and everyone who points out that the emperor has no brain. Good for Kenney for at least trying to point out the obvious.

      1. I would just suggest that the nation is fine, it is the ruling class including politicians, media cartel and academe that are corrupt. This crowd is so corrupt that it looks normal to them.

You disagree with the social “justice” of the professors and bloviators and you will be called anti intellectual, this is all the wise have come up with. There is no chance in their mind that they are corrupt to the core.

  23. Morneau stated that if KM doesn’t build the pipeline another company would be given the chance.
How will that work since KM owns the existing pipeline already in use?

    1. Expropriation ? It would only happen if they actually wanted a pipeline. This way he can pretend he is really trying to get it done ,while wink wink we stopped the pipeline. In what universe does anyone believe the convoluted consultation and environmental studies and hundreds of conditions KM met would be used to allow someone else to build that pipeline ? They would have to start from zero.

    2. The KM pipe line is DOA.. The recent commitment is a hollow bone.. What Company wants their loss compensated on any project that is high risk with high rewards…The existing legal system will provide both compensation for expense costs & loss of profits….The Government of Canada is on the hook for more than the defined expenses… Nobody will invest in Canada if the Government does not adhere to Rule of Law & has the ability to meet their commitments… The selling of “Get your Money Back” development by the Canadian Media is born of stupidity.. and you can’t cure stupid

  24. So he pays pipeline protesters through the summer jobs program and will pay KM compensation for the effects of those protests.
Ask people why they voted for stupidity.

  25. Andrew Sheer call Jason Kenney and get some advice about how to represent those who nominated you to lead the opposition and potentially become our next PM. For crying out loud grow a set, get used to the fact that the MSM will never be your friend and stop trying to please them, they hate you and everything you and your party represent.

    1. I remember during the 1970s oil war between Alberta and Ottawa how Quebec acted as Alberta stole its oil reserves from la belle province. There was open resentment that Alberta could not only sell that oil but to make a profit from it.

The Rainbow Prince would like nothing better than to have a boot stamping on the collective face of Alberta forever and that the footwear be made in and belong to Quebec.

He’s a Trudeau and Trudeaus hate western independence.

  26. This is nothing but a bribe – with our money – for Kinder-Morgan to back out of the project. Trudeau continues to fund the Dogwood Initiative and other organizations – with our money – to oppose Kinder-Morgan. If he was really behind this project, he would halt the funding to Dogwood and cut federal funding to BC for projects, like he has done to Saskatchewan for not jumping on the carbon-tax theft. So far, he is all rhetoric, no action.

    1. Yes, that’s the way I understood it. The Feds can say “Hey, we wanted this pipeline” and still show to their Eco-Fascist masters in the US and at home that the pipeline did NOT get built.

  27. but, the small print. The Feds will only indemnify against actions of the BC provincial government. No mention of Municipalities, “First nations” and Eco-Fascists, all sponsored by US interests.
