  1. This Trump hatred in Canada has become so over-the-top it’s embarrassing. When celebs decide to go political they lose big time.
Kudos to Crosby, rise above, let them wallow in their hatred.

  2. What a bunch of losers.
Crosby is recognizing what an honor it is to be invited to the Whitehouse by the POTUS and these losers try to shame him.
What low life losers they are.

  3. I used to dislike Crosby for some of his antics on the ice, but I have to admit, off the ice, the guy is class. To be able to rise above all the juggernaut and stay out of the fray has earned him some level of respect, at least in my book anyway.
To all the triggered SJW’s out there. For cryin’ out loud, GET A LIFE already!!!

  4. I am personally, so sick of the rat bastard endless pisser and moaners.
All can pound sand right up their collective arse’s. Global, CBC, CTV haven’t watched any of them for years and nothing is going too change about that either.

  5. Oh well, no need to think about important stuff as long as the media can stir and serve up drivel like this for our infantile masses.

  6. Only in the twisted minds of a liberal can he be a “traitor” for going to the White House. To me, he is actually not being political by going because it is a tradition of previous teams to go. It is an honor to be invited. It’s OK just wait for the bailout of Canadian Media coming. They lose touch with the masses yet we are going to have to bail them out. Heaven forbid, JR actually face some scrutiny!

  7. Fake news Fake news, thats all the TheeBThee CTV Globull Red Star and Grope and Fail are all about, start a fight where there isn’t one. Report the story as it happened, but that’s to much to ask these 1600 dollar a month morons while the edit add rebuild the story into a Justy approved piece of fake urnialism. Good for Sid, shows the class the kid possesses, When most Americans are agreeing with Trump and turning off the NFL over their SJW antics they will look to park their entertainment dollars with decent people like the Sids. Math never lies and left, never stop lieing, check the NFL, Hollywood etc viewer numbers. But that math stuff is sooo hard for a urnalist.

  8. Maybe Crosby is astute enough to know that as a foreign worker in the US, he does not vote and by implication should not participate in staged political demonstrations.
USA is a foreign country, would that CBC/CTV and most of the media recognized that fact and acted accordingly. the same commentators that would go into rug chewing mode were Americans to demonstrate against a Canadian elected official, see no inconsistency in doing so themselves. If you want to participate, apply for citizenship and get some money in the game. otherwise just keep quiet.

  9. Why should a Canadian feel guilty by not falling for political anti-Trump American race baiting? I can’t think that anyone in Cole Harbour would give a flying fart over his avoidance of foreign politics other than to congratulate him for being smart enough to do so.

  10. It’s not by accident Hillary Clinton came to Toronto to flog her book, she’s obviously buoyed by the seething hatred for Trump shown by the media in this country.
The media do not represent the people in this country but they do everything they can to influence opinion.

  11. I’m old enough to remember before Current Year, a goalie from some hockey team refused to go to the WH with his team as he disagreed with Oblamblam. He was crucified in the media…
Funny how all of the sudden the rules have changed….

  12. It looks like the NHL may turn out to be the last actual sports league. I wonder if people tuning out of the protest football league, the protest basketball association, protest golf association, protest rugby, protest soccer, protest cricket, protest sitcoms, protest soap operas, protest news, protest movies, protest food, protest standup comedy, protest late night talk shows, … will start to tune into ice hockey?
If people want simple entertainment, there are not many choices out there. If there even are any.

  13. What did academia expect? they lowered the bar to match the IQ of a fence post, and then graduated social justice PhD’s….It is these unemployed (unemployable) self defined elites who are seeking to redefine society in their own image. Marxism is attractive only because it is easy for these intellectually challenged morons to understand…They just form a circle and all agree to a consensus.. Nothing is right or wrong, and others pay the cost & consequences.
Yes! we Americans need to help Urban City minorities get away from the crime & drug infested ghetto’s. What we must avoid is using the circle of social justice warriors… They just devour the resources meant for those in need.. The Marxist Gate keepers are all about themselves….
The NFL is done, gone, finished… Using Football as a political tool will not succeed. The giving of the middle finger (standing or Kneeling) by privileged players is obscene to all REAL Americans…..The Black players involved are the privileged “few” that can be replaced by less privileged black players (10 to 1) who are equally or more talented…
The present NFL league will die quickly or slowly fade away.

  14. The present NFL league will die quickly or slowly fade away.
It won’t. Ken Burns needs material for another liberal documentary snorefest.

  15. Might be time to cheer for the Predators to win the cup so all the lefties choke when PK Subban goes to the Whitehouse and shakes Trump’s hand.
(He’s publicly stated he will always stand at attention for the anthems, hope he continues to resist pressure to do otherwise)

  16. It is unfortunate that there are Canadians who want the NHL to be drawn into this pointless brouhaha. Professional sports should not be used for political grandstanding. Sports fans exist across the political spectrum and it is a rare context in which people can be brought together. In this case, it is another example of an agency (NFL, players) exploiting the racial divide. In my view, the social problem in the US is not Trump (he is a symptom), but rather the extreme divisiveness across the country which plays out to some degree as a racial divide, but it is also agitating leftists and the media pursuing a destructive agenda. The silent majority watch on the side-lines with increasing dismay. The NFL protests seeks to draw them in. It is creating anger and upheaval while accomplishing nothing to solve problems related to race. The situation (including racial relations) would be greatly improved if all people with profile took a neutral stand as Cosby does.

  17. “Jones, Halifax’s former poet laureate,”
Gosh, how dare people ignore such an important person? Next they’ll be snickering about maggie atwood.

  18. “Jones, Halifax’s former poet laureate,”
I was happier not knowing who this person was. Now how long is it going to take me to forget them again?
Who the eff ever reads poetry if they don’t have to anyway?

  19. Re PK Subban: He’s publicly stated he will always stand at attention for the anthems.
When’s he going to start? He does more shuckin’ and jivin’ during anthems than Donna Summers at a disco! But I don’t question his patriotism.

  20. Halifax has descended from a sort-of tolerant city to yet another leftist sewer, just within the ~15 years I’ve lived here. Although.. maybe its descent was finished a long time ago. When George W Bush paid a visit here shortly after his reelection in 2004, there were throngs of protestors everywhere. The city is outright hostile to conservative opinions & conservative politicians (not that there are any of those in Nova Scotia in the first place).
So I’m unsurprised that Crosby would end up being criticized for just trying to be graceful. The leftist swamp that is Halifax naturally is infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome, just as it was previously infected with Bush Derangement Syndrome.

  21. Halifax is not alone.
Calgary is in the midst of municipal electionsy. Not one conservative on the slate.
Councillors have a pension where the city (taxpayers) contribute $5 for every dollar the councillor puts in.
After ‘serving’ one 4 year term your pension is $750/mo. Kinda like working a lifetime and getting CPP.

  22. Is the NHL consumed with “white privilege” … or are they simply consumed by their SPORT?
In a related story … it is obviously time for FIFA to link arms and take a knee … because Spanish soccer fans still throw bananas at African players.
    http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/03/04/390707630/is-fighting-racism-in-soccer-a-lost-cause-fifa-president-says-no
Huh? Who knew? I’ve been “taught” that ONLY ugly Americans are “racist” … thank you leftist schoolteachers !

  23. That pension is unbelievable — for only service four years. It’s ridiculous. I am surprised that everyone is not running to be a councillor.

  24. Remember Tim Tebow? He took a knee before NFL games (but stood for the anthem), and the SJW crowd went berserk about him inserting his personal beliefs (religion) into the game.
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

  25. I wonder if the various folks pushing for Crosby to bow out of the White House visit are aware of what this protest is actually saying. It is NOT essentially anti-Trump, it is anti-America. The original knee thing was essentially a statement declaring America to be racist. Every player who “takes the knee” is saying that about the America in general. This is not exactly a good context in which to make a statement about racism, but it is also insulting to many loyal Americans, and particularly veterans. So, all those people prodding Crosby to not visit the WH seem to want to make that statement about the US being racist. Undoubtedly, many “holier than thou Canadians” want to make just that point, but it does boil down to an insult to Americans in general and also reflects considerable hypocrisy. Someone needs to tell this to Scott Stinson.

  26. It is ridiculous. Heard some talking heads on Calgary radio going on about it today. It’s not just limited to council – sr bureaucrats get it as well.
The slate of candidates is 100% unionistas. No chance for change.
Calgary is broke but the spending goes on unabated. Not unlike Detroit.

  27. Hockey is different. The sport is the most international of the large North American Sports, definitely more than the NFL which is mostly American and 70% African American. But more importantly hockey players have been playing for their respective countries for most of their lives, some starting as early as 14.
In the US the most promising players end up in the US National Development Program.
And we all know how the players feel about playing in the Olympics where they…..play for their country.
So these guys wont want to go anywhere near anything that is disrespecting national symbols of any type. And yes I know the claim now is this is just about consciousness raising, but it has gotten out of control.
Kaepernick initially said he couldn’t salute a flag of a country that oppressed black people and that the anthem was written by a slave owner (true) and has a nasty hidden verse (also true) he has changed his stance now to say it has nothing to do with Flags or anthems or those who fought for it. So the anti anthem anti flag (as a symbol) stuff was there to start and for some hasn’t gone away. But now added is a generic Anti-Trump symbolism. So tell me why Crosby and many other players in many other sports want to get mixed up in that. Joel Ward, Wayne Simmons indicated that this is the wrong tactic to address what they believe is a real problem, and that’s a fair and level headed comment.
Then you add in the, it is an Honour to go to the White House. You separate the office from the occupant, always have. If I were the Penguins and Crosby I would be signalling to the White House that Trump should treat the occasion as apolitically as the Team is, no mention of the NFL or others, no mention of how big his win in Pennsylvania was etc etc. Just do the grip and grin, kibbutz with the players and STFU. I don’t know if he is capable of that. Any other behaviour will embarrass his guests and may force them to say stuff he doesn’t want.
Sydney did the right thing. The Penguins, whose owners are huge Clinton donors and friends also did the right thing. The NHL is doing the right thing. Trump, who the hell knows what he is going to do but lets hope its the right thing.
Even the NBA, which has an existing rule about standing, is doing the right thing. Kaepernick is a bit of an idiot he has “issues”. He recently changed his religion (was an ardent Christian when he broke into the league), his wife seems to control and drive his political opinions and despite his claim he should be an NFL QB he is at best a back up and even then that’s doubtful.
All of this to say its one huge clusterf##k that people are exploiting. Be nervous when you are being exhorted that “now is the time to pick a side”. If ever there was a time to choose the moderate stance this is it, and Sydney and the Penguins made the right choice.

  28. Outside of the obvious White Privilege, somewhere there is a racist or two in this world changing affair!

  29. “… Kinda like working a lifetime and getting CPP.”
Yes, very much like that except for the “working a lifetime” bit. A bit of a late starter pension-wise, I’ve never thought anything else attractive in the thought of going into politics myself.

  30. Yes, El Jones *was* “Poet Laureate” for the Halifax Regional Municipality for a year, maintaining HRM’s tradition of honouring marginal local writers and activists with this position. She has also just been named “Nancy’s Chair” at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. This is normally a two-year visiting appointment as “Chair” in Women’s and Gender Studies, funded by a generous gift from Progressive Conservative Senator Nancy Ruth (née Nancy Ruth Jackman, of the large Ontario Jackman fortune). Ms Jones is a “spoken word” poet, perhaps the most undifferentiated, repetitive, and tiresome literary form known to humankind. According to the story, she makes the third local “professor” to express opposition to Sidney Crosby’s failure to take up their lunatic “Resistance” to the duly elected President of the United States and instead following a long tradition of championship teams accepting the congratulations of the President.
I feel for poor Sidney. Down East here, Trump derangement runs deep. Recall that the vacuous Justin Trudeau swept all 32 parliamentary seats in Atlantic Canada, and the language of our local media and elites toward Stephen Harper was almost as over the top as it is today toward Mr Trump. Halifax is a fairly well off (largely due to government and military employment) urban enclave in an impoverished region that wants everyone to know that we can virtue-signal with the big kids.
Sidney Crosby has family and friends here, and there are many Nova Scotians who applaud his decision (but quietly because our lairds have taken a different view), but, really, I hope that he is able to be at least a little embarrassed by the juvenile pettiness of our local leadership.

  31. Trump derangement syndrome in Canada is directly proportional to the Equalization Payments received by geographical location.
