  1. 23 Americans on that jet.
    #what_difference_at_this_point_does_it_make?
    (#full sarc.)

  2. It could have been an American Airlines jet blown out of the sky between LA and Beijing and the Democrat leadership would do nothing more than issue statements of ‘grave concern’. Mark Steyn subbed in for Rush this morning and had an excellent take on the whole situation. Europe isn’t going to do anything because that’s where their oil and gas comes from. They don’t have the armies to do anything about it. Nato is dead. The UN is completely useless and the leader of the supposedly most powerful nation in the world is too busy with fundraising dinners to care.

  3. Can someone with knowledge of Dutch culture opine on this?

In a country which values restraint and avoids public displays of strong emotion, politicians and media stuck largely to reflecting sombrely on those who died when the Malaysian jet came down on Thursday, including some noted citizens.

“If I bang my fist against the table now … then I reduce the chances of the Netherlands and all those who support us getting the facts on the table,” he told a news conference in The Hague.

.. specifically.. once the facts are on the table, what are the chances of the Dutch spearheading an effort to do what needs to be done?

  4. Putin continues to play chess against a US President who has trouble figuring out checkers. I suspect he knew nothing of the orders to shoot down the airliner beforehand but even if it weren’t collateral damage, Putin knows he can get away with this. The Russians or their proxies apparently have the black box too.

  5. These are real manmade disasters. Hotshots in a war zone quick on the trigger. Another example is
Iran Air Flight 655, shot down by the USN. All 290 on board, including 66 children and 16 crew, died.
As part of the settlement, the United States did not admit legal liability but agreed to pay US$61.8 million.
And then there is Korean Air Lines Flight 007 shot down on September 1, 1983, by a Soviet Su-15 interceptor near Moneron Island, west of Sakhalin Island, in the Sea of Japan. Losses, 269.
These are incidents, accidents if you will, which occur when people play with powerful weaponry. They
are not acts of war nor should they be treated as such.

  6. Russia, the US, China, are only interested in selling weapons for profit. Who those weapons kill is of little concern, it is no different than trying to lay blame with the companies that make the weapons. How many American made weapons are killing in Syria, Israel/Gaza, and Iraq right now?
Citizens of the world should force their governments to sign a treaty banning all arms sales and exporting of weapons.
I know, I’m crazy to think it.

  7. I agree this was probably accidental in that they thought they were shooting down a military plane of some sort. It would be good to get an admission from them, then we could move on to trying to find out why the plane was flying there.

  8. And if someone pointed a pitchfork at you and then thrust it into your belly, it would be “a slip of the foot”.
    Cheers

  9. We will send John McCain and insure he is still off his meds. What a dumb dork ranting & raving waving his wet noodle.
When the Ukraine was part of the USSR some would obviously be trained in the use of SAMs (older type of weapon used).
We don’t hang folks for mistakes, just send lawyers and they will distribute the “attachable” wealth among the victims.
Kissinger said it best: “demonizing Putin is not a foreign policy” Putin won’t get into the box.

  10. When Rome began to collapse from being over extended, the citizens had become extremely infected with moral decay, and the financial collapse due to the free bread and circuses mentality, the barbarians were emboldened to cause havoc on all the borders. We can see this everywhere today with an administration that is politically corrupt and is doing its best to facilitate this collapse.

  11. It is time that the Euros took more responsibility for their own security. The mindset that the Americans have to respond to every incident is done. I do not think that is entirely Obama’s doing.
Rightly people should be asking what motivates this person. He does not appear to have much of a world vision or to be much of a thinker.
IMHO people should be more concerned about Gaza. Hopefully the Israelis bulldoze the entire area into one massive beach resort. Send the Palestinians to Saudi Arabia to be house cleaners. I am sure the Phillipinos working there now will be able to get better paying Tim Horton jobs in Canada. Seriously, much of the ME turmoil is the doing of the Saudis and it is time they started paying ALL the bills.

  12. It took the Soviets 49 years to admit responsibility for the Katyn Forest massacre. By the year 2063 the Russians are expected to admit shooting down the Malaysian airliner.

  13. Fault obviously lies with the missile launchers, but there’s no way that a commercial airliner should have been over that particular zone. To save a few bucks in fuel, this airline may have been negligent and contributed to a needless tragedy.

  14. I wonder if Russia would have attempted invading a nuclear armed Ukraine?
This is a dangerous world, because idiots like Hillary are at the helm of the US. All western nations should invest in nukes.

  15. John Lewis –
The Soviets knew thy were shooting down a Boeing 747 , thy made visual contact.
Wht about he other two planes shot down in eastern Ukraine, this week.? Both accidents?

  16. Way to lead from behind, Obama administration.
This is less about Europe’s responsibilities than it is about getting an appropriate response from an alleged superpower.
Whether the jet was following a standard flightpath (as Korean Airlines flight 007 was when shot down by the Soviets in 1983 who exhibited the same callousness Putin has now affected) or not is irrelevant as (a) the Russian insurgents would have been bloodthirsty had this been a Ukrainian air craft (b) one simply doesn’t commit mass murder.

  17. “From my perspective — and I have the benefit of not being in the government — if there is evidence linking Russia to this, that should inspire the Europeans to do much more.” Hillary Clinton
Gee, Russian proxies fired a Russian missile to shoot down the plane, but Hillary finds no Russian involvement? She is too stupid to be President.

  18. “(b) one simply doesn’t commit mass murder.”
Disagree. ONE does. That’s why I believe in democracy, because One does commit mass murder.

  19. “Hillary finds no Russian involvement?”
And she’d be right if you believed last March that the Tanks and Helicopter Gunships were bought at a surplus store.
Seems you can get SA-11s with their self-propelled tracked launcher(which has more sophisticated radar than a police speed trap) at the surplus store too.
-Russian Surplus Store Advertisement: And with every self-propelled SAM Battery you purchase this Holiday: We’ll give you 1000 AK-104s *Limited Time Offer* for Free Fire Zones Only-

  20. Europe must “do much more”. What, exactly, should they do, Ms. I-wanna-be-president?? “Putting Putin on notice” is simply another group of words for him to laugh at and ignore. True leadership requires the ability to act, not just throw words out. Ms. Clinton, like the current occupant of the White House, does not have the stomach to deal with harsh realities. Like so many who have spent their entire lives in academia or government, both Obama and Clinton seem to feel that words and ideas have the same weight as actions. They do not. It appears that there were Americans on that flight. How many Americans have to die before the media (who are the true rulers of the U.S.) demand that the administration take those lives seriously? Contrast the Lusitania with Benghazi and this airline tragedy. True, the numbers are different, but the underlying principles are the same.

  21. The USofA provides weapons to the world; it’s one of their biggest exports and a large source of revenue to keep the MIC alive and well.
If some group uses a Made in USA missile to shoot down an airliner is the USofA responsible?
Does it really matter if a separatist is firing a Colt or a Kalashnikov?
Antiquated Cold War perspectives are obsolete and counterproductive. The future will be determined by a balance of power among North America, China, Russia, and the Muslims. Who in that group is most like us? Who should we choose as allies?

  22. 23 dead Americans who know how it feels to be Ambassador Stevens.
I remember when the State department actually worked on behalf of Americans.
