As widgets go, this was a big one, it arrived on a pallet, tied down with steel strapping. The product was thoroughly tested by a man named Mustafa and the widget failed all of its safety tests. The [Canadian Standards Ass’n0 sent the product back to the manufacturer for modification.
So far, so good. The manufacturer was pretty big, nearly as big as their widget, and the steel strapping that they used was company branded. That is, their company name was printed on the strapping…
This is just astonishing.

Pardon me if I’m a little behind the curve on this one. This is truly horrifying if true. Do you have some background on the authority of the link? I am reluctant to pass it on to my MP as it stands, but I am equally reluctant to just let it pass. Cheers, Eric
Nothing will change until a conservative government is elected and . . . . wait . . . . WHAT??
Getting paid for not working? Woo hoo! Where do I sign up? I’d be happy to get paid for non-work by the CSA. Anyone know their HR address? Seriously, though, how ironic for this outfit to be called the “Canada Standards Agency” when they obviously have no standards (ethical or other) at all. Why isn’t the Auditor-general all over this file?
From the article…..
“You see, the CSA discovered that they could make the same money without doing the work, thereby improving profit margins immensely. And, in time, our friend Julie discovered through her writing of fake reports that she could have the same income without actually showing up for work.
First, Julie started “working from home.”
Who knew all those annoying spam “work from home on your computer and earn $10,000 week” comments that pervade the Internet were actually real employment ads from the CSA.
… maybe that IS the “Canadian standard” now and not the exception to the rule?
I always feel so much safer using CSA Certified products….NOT….everytime one of these abominations shows up I feel like I should take a shower.
Eric, the website linked is dedicated to exposing the operations of the CSA. It is run by one of their victims, P.S. Knight Co. Read more of the articles and on the home page there is an explanation of the history of CSA and how P.S. Knight ran afoul of them. There is enough information there to do some research and judge for yourself.
What with revelations about the US IRS conduct, have we any reason to doubt that CRA engages in similar abusive conduct?
Or the Police and judiciary?
Gramsci’s “Long March Through the Institutions” has reached it’s intended goal.
Buying ammo, bear spray, and building a fallout shelter may be futile……
Has CSA outsourced work to Ohio?
The Wikipedia description is interesting/laughable:
CSA is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada, a crown corporation which promotes efficient and effective standardisation in Canada,[2] as a standards development organisation and as a certification body.[3] This accreditation verifies that CSA is competent to carry out these functions, and is based on internationally recognised criteria and procedures.[4]
In all seriousness, is this not something that someone with connections at the CPC or other political sources could suggest the Senate could look into?
It seems like the kind of thing the Senate sometimes does…
To what Federal Government department or Minister does the CSA report?
John, it might be better to ask which ministry reports to the CSA!!!
I love reading these posts. It seem that the CSA apparat has finally p—ed in the wrong guy’s cornflakes. P.S. Knight Co. is going to have a field day in court with these a-holes.
Would that we could have the same things happening at a few more crown corporations and Her Majesty’s revenue. I’d love to see some of their dirt spread out for viewing. The windmill bunch here in Dumbtario would be particularly interesting.
I find it more than a little curious that SDA is the ONLY place that I read about this. Why the (obvious) coverup – and by whom? I, too, would like to know under whose ministry lies the CSA. (With ‘lies’ perhaps being the operative word.)
It’s no wonder simple light switches and GFI’s stop working after a year. I have a house full of them, all CSA approved.
You would think the CBC could make this into a Harper scandal at least.
Unless you thought a bit more about it and realised how alike the CBC and CSA are. Both enjoying a status that comes with being part of officialdom in Canada, at least sheltered by this if not wholly shielded from competition, but not in any practical way answerable to the government, and under the pretext of public service actually being run for the benefit of those who work there.
Good heavens! Just how bad can corruption be? It seems that liberals worldwide have quite even trying to hide their theft and ineptness. Time to bring out the pitchfork brigade, followed by the guys with the ropes, backed up with the p.o.ed citizenry with guns.
As far as I know the CSA and it’s minions reports to the Hon. James Moore and the Industry Ministry.
Who is holding them accountable for not enforcing — and imprisoning for not enforcing — the highest safety standards we Canadians expect.
When will the RCMP charge CSA’s executives and board of directors with failing to protect the public. methinks they would get L-O-N-G jail sentences.
Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking about applying for a job with the CSA.
“Ghost of Ed” It’s no wonder simple light switches and GFI’s stop working after a year. I have a house full of them, all CSA approved.
I own 2 GFIs – neither work. How long do they last? 6 months?
I like this work by PS Knight.
Everyone of us needs to start hounding our MPs and MLAs, as the bottom line is simple.
If this behaviour as documented is unpunished by our elected nitwits.
Then they are complicit.
Once brought to their attention, they have the choice..Do nothing and swing with the bandits. Or save their own sorry Butts by making examples of the bureaucratic extortionists.
CSA has been used as hammer by Provincial inspection departments for decades.
As CSA is exposed, the trades can demand their permit fees back, with interest.
As money extorted under false authority.
There is
more to come. CSA was not accredited from 2002-2010 by the Standards Council of Canada to certify Modular Homes!!!!!
8 years of non certified homes in Canada labeled by CSA!!!!!
