Requirements for one duration safety test on the Viking cooktop prescribed three days for which Mustafa had allocated only four hours of time. At risk of insulting the intelligence of the reader, one cannot compress seventy-two hours of duration testing into four hours, it offends the laws of physics.
The engineer responsible for this testing complained, in the parking lot. Hence the argument. Mustafa advised the engineer, in colourful and creative language and at high volume, that the engineer would indeed find a way to cram seventy-two hours of testing into four hours “or I’ll cancel your vacation.” Well, that’s incentive.
That’s also pretty normal at [the Canadian Standards Association]. On one occasion, Mustafa conducted a month-long duration test in two days. Or so says the product file, and so confirms our sources. But, again, the laws of physics get in the way. What CSA claims as having happened isn’t physically possible. The file may indeed record a magical result, but that result says more about CSA practices than the flexibility of the laws of physics.
So what happened with the Viking cooktop? Well, “he ended up copying off the previous certification for a similar product, itself having been copied from a previous certification for a similar product, making the results of the current ‘test’ meaningless.” That cooktop, so thoroughly certified as safe, is now on sale across the land. This is how CSA does safety certifications of consumer products. These products are in your homes.
“Why am we not hearing this on the news?” you ask. “The heavy investigative lifting has already been done!”
Well, with so many in media now married to politics, the journalistic offspring are too lazy to steal.

Ain’t that the truth. Just as lazy, comfortable, uncurious and cowardly as the public they are supposed to serve and protect by true investigative journalism.
Continuation of the “me” generation. Such a sad legacy for the Best Generation. Cheers;

Misunderstanding all you see
It’s getting hard to be someone but it all works out
It doesn’t matter much to me

Strawberry Fields forever”

Bizarro am want Parliament curb abuse of power?
Close enough for Government work.
Well … at least someone is paying attention!
behave yerself…
The civil service and CSA main purpose is to provide employment…..like humane Societies.

There is some confusion here. The CSA is not set up to test products and provide the CSA stamp of approval. The prime role is to provide employment for new Canadians from the Indian sub-continent with some Muslims thrown in for good measure. From the CEO down it is an Indian organization. Whites need not apply.
Ash Sahi, the CEO, is simply following the implicit government mandate here and he is doing an excellent job.
I had the dubious pleasure of visiting the Mississauga office and it was almost like visiting Mumbai without beggars.
And is it too much of a stretch to suspect that if a new cooktop were to be submitted by a new and unheard-of manufacturer, that it would get the fully rigorous battery of tests, and that it would fail on one or two critical ones, until such time as the bribes were paid?
Given that CSA, bizarrely, has a presence in the USA, I wonder if a RICO suit could be initiated?
But you must admit the Canadian Standards Association lives up to the standards of most Canadians today, which isn’t saying much.
As fragged-up as this story is, you can just assume any other government department or crown corp will be the same. Including the military.
The military does have one advantage in that occasionally there is a war and the dead wood gets burnt away pretty quick. In all other government situations it just piles up.
As well, the military is a necessary part of government in a free nation. Almost everything else is not. Including the CSA.
This is why Conservatives say we need LESS government, not better government.

Who the hell do they think they are? – the Better Business Bureau?
“”Why am we not hearing this on the news?””
But I AM hearing about this on the news – this IS the news, the lame stream media is the alternative media
What would be far more damaging to the CSA in the US would be if one of their “thoroughly tested” and “approved” consumer devices was involved in a fatal fire. US lawyers would have a field day with the information published here and other web sites which would likely result in huge damages awarded to the victims payable by the CSA. On late night TV one sees numerous ads by class action lawyers trawling for “victims” who have been “harmed” by some company. Even an excellent antipsychotic/mood stabilizer cost Lilly $1 billion when every one who had gained weight joined the lawsuit and a CSA “certified” product causing fatalities would likely lead to the bankrupcy of the organization.
What puzzles me is why the government isn’t acting on this clear criminal activity? While I think there are few forms of life lower than lawyers, in this case the US legal system might provide an easy solution to this criminal organization.

Not a “criminal” organization but a bureaucracy that needs scrutiny and oversight.
This could well be a can-o-worms that the government needs to think about before publicly opening. They will not move quickly.
On the other hand … if someone is aware of actual criminal activity … complain to the RCMP.
