Sorry – wrong Mayor!
Nearly seven months after its charitable status was revoked, a foundation for which [London] Mayor Joe Fontana remains a director was still using its federally issued tax registration number on its website.[…]
Trinity Global was established in 2007 and Joe Fontana was brought into it by its founder, his boyhood chum Vince Ciccone, a year later. Donations skyrocketed until it was shut down May 4 with revocation.
The CRA said the foundation had strayed from its charitable purpose and had become overly focused on issuing tax receipts. And an audit found $8 million raised for hungry school kids and to fight HIV/AIDS went into the pockets of Joe Fontana and fellow directors of the charity.
Sorry about the Ford bait and switch, just trying to pull eyeballs. As a former Liberal MP and cabinet minister*, Mayor Fontana’s exploits are a media-party designated unstory.

Fontana was not some lowly Liberal MP but a cabinet minister.
And he’s already in trouble for expensing his kids weddings to the taxpayer when he was a cabinet minister. You would think outright deliberate fraud of expenses would be of more interest to the scumedia than ethically challenged but not illegal expenses.
Typical liberal thinks the taxpayers money is theirs to do what they want with, they just take and take they are unfit to govern and with this premier unelected. It was Dalton Mcliar whdo was elected not” miss gouge the public” Wynne.
Kleptocracry, the career of generations.
Parasites never moderate the drain on their host.
Strange that I haven’t been reading this in the papers and seeing it on all the major Canadian News programs. Odd that the CBC isn’t doing a “Major” on it.
Both men have disgraced their offices and should have resigned long ago. The disparate media attention is not due to the politics of either man, though, but rather the salaciousness of the Ford story and the age-old issue of Toronto-centric reporting.
The London Free Press and CTV London have reported extensively on both Fontana scandals. The charity issue hasn’t received much coverage outside of London, however the wedding expense charges have been widely reported in the national and provincial media (often in articles discussing Ford or the Quebec mayoralty scandals).
Toronto has a population of 2.5 million and is home to most of the national media. London has a population of 350,000 and the home to, well, the London Free Press and CTV London. That is, by far, the biggest factor in the disparate coverage.
Plus, smoking crack and hanging out with criminals has a tabloid factor that attracts more eyeballs than expense accounts and charitable tax status. Just look at all the media coverage of Miley Cyrus, Lyndsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen etc. – it has little to do with their musical or acting talent and much to do with the tawdriness of their lives.
I have no doubt that a dislike of Ford’s politics has influenced the often unfair tone of the coverage, but if David Miller had behaved the same way while in office, an identical media feeding frenzy would have occurred. The media like (gravy) train wrecks. Ford delivers such collisions in spades.
A Liberal abusing his position to line his pockets is old hat. A conservative who does stupid things when drunk is rare. Add the bias of the LSM and you get 24/7 Rob Ford coverage.
Look at the Senate scandal. Mac Harb has lived within walking distance of Parliament Hill for decades. He deliberately bought a house he didn’t live in, claimed expenses for it, sold 99% of it and kept claiming 100% of expenses on 1% of a house! Yet all the attention is on Mike Duffy because he was appointed by Harper while Harb is a Chretien appointee.
Tony Fontana “say hello to my little charity”

Except for the fact that the Globe and Mail’s search engine only gives 3 responses to ” Fontana wedding”, one which was a video that has Joe saying ” it didn’t happen, and the CBC search engine comes up with this message. ” Your search – ” fontana wedding ” – did not match any documents. ”
I suppose that could be considered “widely reported” in Liberal circles.
Being a liberal means you never go to jail, or be subject to public shaming. In fact the press is your socialist buddy.A guardian of your soiled purity. From Pervert to bag man, drug user, your never called to account. Being Consecrative though means your a public enemy to be hunted down.
This is what 40 years of communism in Canada has produced.
Does anyone else find it surprising that every time there is a major scandal (real scandal, not a Duffy Scandal) those involved are somehow connected to the Liberal Party, or from folks who brought us really tasty pasta?
Look at what is going on in Quebec for the last 40 years. Libeals + Italians = corruption on a huge scale. Oh well…this is not the first Liberal Cabinet minister with such connections. Don’t forget Alfonso (of sponsorship fame) Gagliano. He was fingered as a “made man” in the mafia.
You won’t be hearing much of this on the CBC.
When will folks wake up and realize the Liberal Party is simply an extension of the mob?
I hate being that guy, but is “media-party designated non-story” an appropriate hyphen? I mean the first one, of course.
