I will believe it when the first oil flows over the border, and the Obama ends its wider war on cheap fossil fuels, such as fracked natural gas.
On its own, this is a meaningless press release.
If true Hollywood eco-fascist will go mad. I love it!
This is good news. The bad news is the State Department has set 45 days for public comment.

At least it should be entertaining when the eco-freaks try to claim the KXL is the only bad pipeline while thousands of others are good pipelines. Or that filling and unloading rail-cars will drop less oil on the ground than a pipeline.
As long as our gov didn’t cave on carbon tax…
Keystone was approved when it was going across supposedly fragile areas (3 years of hearings and no one noticed the route?) so now that it’s been moved, State had to approve it. But no matter, O ain’t gonna approve it, not when there are celebs to raise money from.
Yup, Now all we need do is enact a full cap and trade tax regime under the benevolent hand of Peter Kent. Once in place, Obama will allow the crude to flow into the US at their $25.00/barrel discount.
Ship it to China at full retail.
You echo my thoughts MarkP
True and this will be the real test. Hollywood and the tree huggers have a lot of influence and will put a lot of pressure on the great one to nix it. To make it even more interesting we now have John Kerry in the mix and he’s a foam at the mouth, granola crunching tree hugger. Should get interesting.
Two steps forward one step back.
Now that he’s elected . . .
Shoddy, shabby excuse for a report!
Not one sentence about the traumatic effect construction would have on our parastic enviro-NGOs!
I think the odds are that he will approve it. Obama doesn’t need the enviro-weenies now that the Presidential election is over. Labour union muscle and money is now more important in anticipation of the 2014 mid-terms. He can easily cover his tracks by claiming he insisted on the highest degree of environmental sensitivity and protection, blah, blah, blah. All horse exhaust of the ripest variety, but his supporters will buy it. As you must have noticed, he can say one thing now and the exact opposite the next day without raising a flicker of concern from his zombie electorate.
“As you must have noticed, he can say one thing now and the exact opposite the next day without raising a flicker of concern from his zombie electorate.”
Good grief,Jim303. Has says one thing, and changes it 90 SECONDS later. But then when you are his electorate, with nothing between your ears to stop the BS(even the Obummer phones can’t do that),well nuff said. OMG….does this captcha mean anything…77jj666
Still doubt that Obama will allow it to happen. Just as no new permits have been allowed offshore OR on US govt lands since his reign began.
He wants to curry favour with the peid ĂȘtre set in NY and LA and to be hailed as the hero of the enviro left in general. He will not sully his rep by allowing Keystone. And that’s essentially in line with his campaign/sotu speech.
MarkP, exactly.
peterj, perfect description of Kerry. His speech the day he was officially announced could have been written by the fruit-fly doctor.
Warren Buffet’s trains are making billions hauling the pipeline oil.
Gee, I wonder if Barry will aprove the pipe that will shut that gravy train down?
Gord, you make a good point, but Obama has several environment-energy issues on his plate:
1. Domestic pressure from the pond scum to introduce a carbon tax. Thus far he’s punted this one by suggesting to Canada that it take measures of its own. After all, it’s easier to beat up on a friendly neighbour than it is to put your own house in order. But that only defers, not prevents, pressure from his Green friends, especially with Kerry in the mix, to “do something” domestic.
2. The Greenies oppose any new nuclear power in the US, and they’re very upset about the research grants provided to Babcock for developing small nuclear reactors. Every dollar for nuclear is a dollar less for wind, solar, etc. The Green scum are the ultimate believers in the zero-sum game.
3. As noted, the pressure to remove or maintain the de facto ban on offshore drilling.
4. The strident opposition to Keystone, which the Green slime have identified as their “die in the last ditch” issue.
Obama won’t sell out the Greens on all of these, so it’s going to depend on which ones he fells he can yield on and which he can give away.
Seeing is believing and I haven’t seen any equipment moving yet. You honestly don’t expect the leftoids to take this lying down, do you? When something as simple as changing direction of the flow in a pipeline causes a kerfuffle and endless studies, connecting a pipeline over a border will not go smoothly.
“45 days to comment” translates into plain English as “45 days until we start going around this multi-year mulberry bush AGAIN!”
HOWEVER … by releasing this news late on a Friday, during the “fog of war” around the budget sequester, it suggests that MAYBE somebody somewhere is trying to sneak this news out so as to generate MINIMAL media reaction.
The Obungler admin is soooooo screwed up that it’s very difficult to read their tea leaves … but given Obungler’s hostility to oil in general and “oil sands” in particular, if I had to bet my house I’d bet that there will be NO signs of any xl pipeline construction activity during this administration.
I don’t think he cares that much about those mid-terms. He is content to rule by decree (Executive Order) even if it doesn’t work. He has had plenty of choices presented between doing what would improve the economy (or at least not make it worse) and he pretty consistently chooses what will do more long term damage. Through the filter of the media I can’t really know someone in his position so I can’t tell whether he is really that stupid or he has malicious intent, but regardless, the direction they are going seems to be toward a general collapse which will convince enough people to accept a new order.
I don’t see absolute proof that he is trying to destroy the U.S., but neither do I see evidence he is trying to preserve it. When it comes to “What will Obama do?” I’d bet on red rather than black.
“3. As noted, the pressure to remove or maintain the de facto ban on offshore drilling.
4. The strident opposition to Keystone, which the Green slime have identified as their “die in the last ditch” issue.”
Do you feel that a trade-off could be made here in favour of Keystone, which could obviate the need for a decision on off-shore drilling, at least for a time? After all, they have the John Kerry-led State Department report now, which should provide cover on the environmental impact, whereas the Deepwater Horizon horizon is still a pretty ugly poster child for off-shore drilling.
