  1. Face it: Emeryville is just too darn close to Berzerkley.
Hey, “Chief”, it’s a weapon. Offensive or defensive depends on HOW IT’S USED.
We need a better class of dumb-ass.

  2. Hummmmmm….so that means I can go out and stab this stupid piece of crap, and he can’t use his gun to defend himself? Excellent.

  3. All cops and police chiefs should immediately be disarmed and be forced to the same defense as the rest of us, back into a cave and use tooth and claw.

  4. So is this officer willing to re-try all the “Justified police shooting” cases and testify the officers involved were aggressors in each case? If they don’t retract his statement soon the lawsuits for wrongful death will come “Fast and Furious”.

  5. It is logical and reasonable to disarm the Police….especially after that little speech…which indicates a diminished mental capacity…
It seems statistically 9% of the time Police shoot the wrong guy while LCC civilians only screw up 2%. Disarming the Police would eliminate a real and genuine menace to public safety.
Police generally arrive on a crime scene AFTER the fact, and only investigate, hence have no need to be armed.
Disarming the Police would instantly remove thousands of firearms from the streets…eliminating a ready source of stolen firearms for criminals.
British police allegedly are not armed….
If it saves just one life…. (sarc\)

  6. Are you telling me that that chief is sending his officers out without any defensive weapons? How dare he!

  7. …too funny
Most people I know carry a gun as “defense” against some wild animal…
    …but then he’s obviously a city boy

  8. Let’s see 55 law enforcement officers KIA is a great number; but 496 murders with a hammer last year,(columnist Walter Winters) supporting other realities as preferred to more gun laws, is ignored.
    Looks like this Polic Chief is worried obout his job. Cheer;

  9. The weight of all the bling on his shoulders is cutting circulation to his brain. A weapon is a weapon, period. Flippin’ moron.

  10. The guy may be wearing a uniform, but, he’s no cop. He’s a politician, in California, a democrat politician.

  11. If what this jerk says is true then logically all the police officers are carrying offensive weapons which would make every fatal shooting by an officer second degree murder.
Since he is in California the rules of logic are suspended.

  12. We are sure going to save a lot of money by selling police department guns. Clubs – now that’s defensive. Sure we’ve got morons here but California excels.

  13. A gun is a tool just as a hammer is a tool. If used to harm another person, anything can meet the definition of weapon. Hammers, kitchen knives, baseball bats, even the jawbone of an ass can all be used as weapons. As mojo said, the way it’s used will determine whether your tool becomes an offensive weapon or a defensive weapon.

  14. That guy’d fit right in with the Canadian Ass’n of Chiefs of Police, a bunch of politicians dedicated to making sure they get hefty pensions.

  15. We need a better class of dumb-ass.

Yes, a better class of propaganda parrot.

yeah, same experience here. COP attitudes don’t work with bears.

  16. I’d venture to say that the police chief would’nt be wandering through a drug gang infested LA neighborhood without a weapon at his side.
Given their recent manhunt of one of their own ex-police officers run amok, ie Chris Dorner, any red blooded American would be owning a firearm for defensive purposes.
    Reportedly:
“Two of the victims were women delivering newspapers in a pick-up truck that resembled ex-cop Chris Dorner’s who say they were given zero warning before officer’s opened fire, reports CBS Los Angeles. One neighbor told the Daily Breeze that he heard as many as 20 shots.
Police Chief Charlie Beck told the media that the women’s pick-up truck matched the description of Dorner’s dark-colored Nissan, calling it “a case of mistaken identity by the officers,” even though the women’s royal blue Toyota Tacoma is a different color and make.
Their lawyer, Glen Jonas, countered the Cheif’s claims, arguing, “The vehicle is a different color. The license plate doesn’t match. There’s nothing there for you to start shooting people. And even if they had the person in question… Mr. Dorner…you still have to give them an opportunity to get out. You can’t just start administering street justice.
The women, identified as Maggie Carranza, 47, and her 71-year-old mother, Emma Hernandez, were taken to the hospital. Caranza was treated for wounds to the hand from shattered glass and Hernandez, who was struck with a bullet in the back, remains in the ICU at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where she’s listed in good condition.”

  17. You have to be a bit forgiving of this fellow. He is just a “Yes Man” for the Mayor’s office and his official mouth-peace. Very few Police Chiefs will weigh in on this of their own volition and when some do they are usually not anti. The police chief of Calgary comes to mind.

  18. He’s just spouting the standard totalitarian party line; police officers have guns to intimidate the proletariat. If the proletariat were armed, they’d be able to intimidate the local gestapo who would have to be civil to “civilians”. He just wants to make it easier for the statist goons to intimidatae anyone who’s not a member of the party. We’ve seen this all before and that’s why the 2nd amendment has to be defended by any means necessary.
    Chris Dorner, you missed one.

  19. He makes about as much sense as the Fire Arms officer in Ontario or Quebec. Moron. Of course this is California, so one would expect that kind of stupidity.

  20. He wants regulations to keep his officers safe.
So if he gets those reasonable regulations they won’t carry guns any more? And when a bad guy is shooting at them the bullets won’t have any effect because reasonable regulations are in place????

  21. It was Dianne Feinstein friends from San Francisco that made her love/hate relationship with guns. Jim Jones was a Dianne supporter before he fled to Jonestown & his Massacre in Nov 18,1978. He was a communist cult leader that ran the Democrat politics in San Francisco, loved the Dianne..
It was Dan White (retired Police Chief) that assassinated Mayor Moscone & Milk in Nov 27th, 1978 that allowed Diane Feinstein career to bloom. She succeeded Moscone as Mayor of San Fransisco. How convenient for Jones’s little girl
Dianne Feinstein has some extreme communist gun folks that you don’t want to met without a means of defense, of course she wants everyone else disarmed

  22. And here people accept body armour regulation, as is the case in BC, Alberta and Manitoba. You don’t have the right not to get shot.

  23. On the money Robert. This creature has no resemblance to a police officer, and seems to be totally detached from the common self evident realities of life. If ALL firearms are “offensive” what does that say about the men in his command who carry them?
It seems that Calif. public service affirmative action hiring programs include the mentally handicapped.

  24. Cops aren’t the real problem, though definitely a significant part of it.
By extrapolation it’s not a mental stretch to understand that police & policy go hand-in-hand. Police enforce policy without question as dictated by their political and bureaucratic masters.
A fundamental requirement for police officers is to obey orders without question – any applicant who exhibits independent thought during testing or interviews will be rejected, as will an IQ quotient

  25. With tens of millions of guns in the States, one would expect tens of millions of casualties daily if such weapons were offensive weapons. But the evidence is far less supportive of this idiot’s assertion.
