Jon Meacham asked, “Has there been a moment in the last 40 years when you thought the government was helping” when it comes to energy production?
“I don’t know of any place,” Pickens replied.
Meacham followed by asking if the upcoming election matters. Pickens responded, “Obama, his hands are tied. He’s got the greenies and the Left, but nobody accuses me of not being green. I’m in the wind business…I’ve lost my ass in the business.”
Host Joe Scarborough said laughing, “You’ve invested more in alternative energy than anybody else.”
If only Texas weren’t so far away. There must be some way to get news of these many wind energy failures to our own Saskatchewan Party government before it’s too late!

“Has there been a moment in the last 40 years when you thought the government was helping” when it comes to energy production?”
Well, yes. One example is the Mica Dam,2100 mw, finished in 1973 by BC Hydro,a government power corporation.
Of course, in those days we had an exceptional individual in the Premier’s office, very much UNLIKE today where we have politicians tilting at windmills.
Wall (whom I always liked) is killing this pro. They plan to spend 4-5 billion on green shit according to Justin Duncan. If they don’t know by now that AGW is a lie they are not as smart as I thought. Either that or they are following in fruit fly’s foot steps to make as much money as they can from the tax payer. So MR. Wall what is it? Are you stupid or do you think we are?
and we wont eat no stinking burgers

I like his “We work with the Canadians like they’re the enemy sometimes.”
Bird/Bat grinders are ugly and useless. Plant some trees instead.
Mr. Pickens verified the folly of investing in wind energy. Mr. Pickens made his fortune in the Oil industry, he woke up one day without his brain and followed fools. He lost his fortune but seems to have found his mind.
Sask Party, listen and learn. Mr. Wall: see Kate’s header.
Its always nice to see some guy who knows what he’s talking about come on one of these shows and say what is. The idiots all puff and dance and spin, and there he is just sitting there saying “I lost my @ss in the wind business” and “alternative energy makes the cost go up ten times”.
Still, T. Boone baby is not your friend. Because what he’s talking about when he says “energy policy” is more properly translated as “energy central planning”. Which worked out awesome for the Soviet Union, right?
Actually Mr. Psckens lost his As$ in natural gas. He completely missed the advent of fracking and the impact it would have on gas supply and prices.
Anybody with half a brain has known for a long time that the only money in wind power is government money. Either Pickens is a moron – which I don’t think anybody has ever accused him of being – or he went into the wind business expecting the government to deliver him wheelbarrows full of cash. I presume when he says that he knows of no place that the government has helped with energy production, it’s a veiled complaint that a lot of people who have a lot less money than he does weren’t compelled to give him more of theirs.
Andy, Boone’s strategy was a smart one at least for the short term. Simply, the more wind that’s built, the more gas that’s needed for providing most of the kWh and the backup. If Boone is big in both, he cleans up on government subsidies for building wind, and he makes tons from selling gas to make electricity.
Problem for Boone was that the bottom fell out of electricity demand in the US post 2008, and the price of gas fell even further. And I don’t particularly blame him for following such a strategy. If the government and the taxpayers are stupid enough to give away trainloads of cash for useless birdkillers, then I’m even more stupid not to take it off their hands.
The fact that this is purely self-destructive policy on the part of the government is OUR fault for electing the morons to office in the first place. The US got the government it deserves.
It would be great as well to have the Sask Party stop wasting money on carbon sequestration.
I read that Saskatchewan Environment Minister was “fuming” when the Fruitfly Foundation said that Saskatchewan wasn’t doing enough against global warming and he pointed to how much money they have spent on carbon capture and other nonsense.

Daniel hates Red Tories at April 14, 2012 2:28 PM That’s right. Wall is selling out Sask. 4-5 billion for green shit. But green is the colour in Sask.
Disappointed to hear Brad Wall has drunk the green kool-aid
LOL. Everyone so surprised that Wall is the big-government stooge he has always been and never pretended very well to not be.

Pickens spent a great deal of money on tv adverts promoting his wind energy projects. His effort to make money from wind power was clearly rent-seeking – probably not too bad a risk given the influence that environmental lobbyists have acquired.
It would be interesting to know how much of the money that Pickens lost in the wind power business was from expenditures on lobbying and advertising and how much was from actual expenditures on buying land and building windmills.

Sadistic Eristic at April 14, 2012 6:48 PM So how much is Wall stealing from Sask. This AGW is a big money grab for all these guys to take our money and put it in their bank accounts. Wall is just like Goreing and fruit fly and all the rest. Steal all they can and run like hell.
