  1. One of those questions is not like the other; what does Android have to do with any of the political issues?
(Like Mr. Froman, I missed only the spending one, probably because I was conflating “Medicare” with some other damned program.)

  2. Ha,
it tells me that “you got 11 qusetions correct”, it also tells me that “you are with 1% of the public”.
Any more surveys like this and there is a serious risk that I would think of myself as some kind of smart.
    Ha.
They better come up with better questions.

  3. Missed the +/- paid back on TARP–rats–other than that I thought the national defense spending question was a gimme.
Over the years I’ve heard the media repeat that fact as many times as Kate has page hits. BTW Congrats on the 20 brazillion.

  4. I got the TARP question wrong. When you look at the breakdown of the questions it is shocking how ill informed many are.
OTOH it might explain a few things like the 2008 election or The View.

  5. I got only 7 out of 12, but I’m not surprised. I’m Canadian and a Luddite. I still did better than 67% of those who took the test!
Where can you find the correct answers? They only told me which ones I got correct and incorrect!

  6. 10/12
Got inflation and defense/medicare spending “wrong”…clearly I need to further suspend disbelief.

  7. They should have asked what cable news network the testee preferred. That would have been enlightening.

  8. Batb, there is a link above left on the page that gives you the number correct. If you’re willing to slog through again, click it, and it gives you (most of) the questions, and the correct answers.

  9. 11 of 12 as well. They must be including a lot of unusual items in that Defense spending number.

  10. I got 10 out of 12.
Same as Tenebris -defence and inflation questions wrong. WOW……and I am Canadian. 😉

  11. 10 out of 12 puts me at 96%
A bit of a surprise for a Maritime Canadian. The original results were from a telephone survey: If we are visual learners, should we expect to do better on a written multiple choice rather than verbal?

  12. As a confirmed news junkie got 11 out of the 12, missed on question 11 – second guessed myself – should have gone with my first choice.

  13. hey , got the same as the maritime canadian. but alas I am a former maritime canajun.
I think I may have missed on the identify your gender question.I was clicking pretty fast.
anyway, always remember , statistically 50% of the population is dumber than average. its a rule.
and yet having said that , also remember “the market represents the collective wisdon of 6 billion peopke” which is always why it beats the controlling governments.

  14. Ahh, didn’t see you could see your question by question results. Picked Medicare over National Defense.

  15. Gosh..
    I got 10 out of 12. Humiliation.
I’ll have to spend some time in the foyer closet again 🙂

  16. Missed the spending question. I really thought that Education was more of a bottomless pit that the military.

  17. 12 outta 12. The national defence one really had me thinking though. I was pretty tempted to put interest.

  18. There’s an argument that the current relations between India and Pakistan should be counted as “neutral,” but I gamed it and picked “unfriendly,” which was listed as correct.
Interest on the national debt is projected to exceed defense spending at some point in the next ten years, but not yet.

  19. I got 8 of 12… D’oh! Well at least i did better than 77% of the public. I gotta get FoxNews.

  20. I got 10 out of 12, the TARP question and the question on foreign goods stumped me because I never hear about those. But still, amazing how ill-informed people are about their own affairs, I’m Canadian and most of these questions were a gimmie like the mid-term elections?! Come on who would get that wrong!! Even CNN was talking about how the Republicans fared better than the Democrats!

  21. I am with Kathryn and Johnboy,12 out of 12. Can’t be right; there are many wise(r) people visiting this blog than the three of us or probably than one of us. Cheers;

  22. 10 out of 12, missed the TARP and Military spending questions. Wonder how it would score if they took out the Canadians…we seem to be scoring better then most of the Yanks!

  23. I got 11 out of 12. Missed #11, what the government spends the most on. Nice to see so many people on this blog doing well.

  24. 12 out of 12 again. I’ve aced all of these that I’ve done over the past year or so, despite the fact that I get all my news from conservative blogs. How peculiar!
The spending question is tricky. Medicare + Medicaid would be higher than defense, but Medicare alone isn’t enough.

  25. 9/12 which seems to be a humiliating score — not enough to get me watching TV or reading newspapers again. I should have read more closely to notice the “as reported by the government”. Inflation is a lot more than 1%; in pharmaceutical prices I’ve seen 50% price rises in some drugs over the last year. Maybe in the US inflation is low but certainly not here. Also guessed wrong on the largest government expense figuring it had to be interest on the national debt.
Had never heard of the TARP program.
Interestingly very few people got the inflation question right which suggests that government inflation figures are lower than what people personally experience when they go shopping.

  26. Sniff, now I’ve confirmed I’m an idiot. 🙂
You correctly answered 10 out of the 12 possible questions, which means you did better on the quiz than 94% of the general public

  27. Here’s Your Score: You correctly answered 11 out of the 12 possible questions, which means you did better on the quiz than 98% of the general public.
#11 got me (although at least my second choice was correct).
And I’m glad I got the one about the “government reported inflation rate”. I believe the “real” figure is higher but noticed the “government reported” part, so went with the (allegedly) correct lower figure.

  28. Kinda makes you wonder where a monkey with a dart board would finish relative to the general population.

  29. 12 for 12
The tarp question is dubious when one considers that GM paid it back with federal bailout money and who knows what other companies got similar arrangements. Hell, it only recently came out that Toyota, ford and BMW and some others got emergency financing.
Defense is big especially when one considers that a big chunk is secret. The CIA got about 25% of the Marshall plan for example.

  30. I don’t like how Medicare and Medicaid are separated while Military Defense and “security” are together, it seemed to me (not just because I got it wrong…) that is was worded like this with intent to trip…
Although it is good to see the questions regarding the unemployment and inflation rates clearly linked to the government figures, and everything is *going to be just fine*

  31. 12 out of 12
Too much Fox News, (but not much lately), and certainly too much Drudge Report and Breitbart.
And I always start with SDA.

  32. Wow, 10/12 and I’m Canadian and have only just discovered that there’s a conservative world out there in the blogosphere, it’s wonderful not having to rely? on the MSM for info

  33. Hey! My two wrong answers weren’t the ones I gave. Darn cheating polls! I would have aced it.

  34. 11 of 12. Missed Defense Spending as the most spending – went for interest. I wonder how much interest rates have to rise before that is the right answer?
