Plans showing the layout of a new building for a Canadian Forces counter-terrorism unit based in Trenton, Ont., have been found in a pile of garbage on Bank Street.
The 26 blueprints, stamped with Department of National Defence markings, show everything from the location of the security fence to the floor plan of the new home of the Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit at CFB Trenton.

Salloum just happens to work for a left leaning think tank opposed to the military. He and his companion check garbage along their route to dinner.Doesn’t everyone? There are seven(they counted, right?) rolls of documents on the bagged garbage. The documents just happen to appear along his route to dinner. He happens to a have a “partner” with him who can corroborate the find. He doesn’t go back for the other rolls of documents, even after seeing DND markings and “briefly” examining the documents. Neither he, nor the others in the “think tank” knew what they had…..kinda a dumb bunch of deep thinkers. On suddenly realizing what they had, instead of calling the authorities, they call the media. Good citizens, not! Having a very cynical mind, I suspect that the documents were obtained through less than legitimate means, and this is the chosen method of revealing them to the public. Want to bet that this “scandal” surfaces in the next question period? Makes you wonder who has orchestrated the whole thing.

I am sure there are security cameras in the area that might identify…..of course if it took him two weeks to say he got them I am sure the security tapes are long written over again. Even one week is probably too much.

Let me get this straight.
Supposedly sensitive blue prints for a new building to house the anti-terrorist forces are found in the garbage. The man who found them is delighted but shocked and dismayed at the same time. The MSM determines them to be sensitive enough to report the finding and the story gets ‘legs’.
Here’s where I have the problem: CTV showed four of the ‘sensitive’ pages last night on their national news cast and have a photgraph of one on their website.

Then Craig Oliver goes on to explain exactly what the prints detail, like a perimeter fence, storage rooms for chemical-sniffing robots and the like.
Gee, thanks Craig! The chances of a terrorist finding a set of discarded blueprints on an Ottawa street are so remote as to be laughable but the chances of a terrorist seeing such prints on a High Definition large screen TV and freezing the pictures to get a better look, while taking notes thanks to Craig, are much better.
If this story goes anywhere it should come right back to CTV for a full explanation of their reasoning behind sharing such ‘sensitive’ blueprints with their hundreds of thousands of viewers coast to coast.

Simon – the Holland incident is interesting, given that he has been accused of contempt of Parliament over this; for removing personnel files without proper consent, and documents that were clearly marked for transport to other offices. After all, a building proposal requires it to go to contract for designers/architechs. You would think that more than one proposal would be submitted. What do the architechs do with the blueprints for buildings that did not win a bid? The blueprints go in the garbage. (But the software data is archived).
So, are there any architechs working or living in that neighbourhood? I think that area would have some living there, as many of the old homes and such would have been attractive to architechs.

This story reeks of collusion and set-up to discredit the Conservative government. Those of you who live in Ottawa might agree that it smells worse than Carp Dump which graces the main western entrance into this town.
We need an RCMP investigation and royal inquiry into this string of convenient co-incidences between leaky government departments, left-wing organizations and left-wing newspapers.

TJ makes a really good point: “Restaurants use garbage bins hidden in back alleys or risk going out of business. Open garbage in front of an Ottawa restaurant seems next to impossible.” — I don’t even know if garbage trucks go down this street because it is a quite narrow and very busy street — perhaps it was just a street trash can or something. Anyway, next time I am on Bank Street I will attempt to assess the garbage situation. What is apparent to me is that this has to have been a plant. Salloum may or may not have been involved. The reason I say this is that with something like this in the garbage, lots of people would have walked right by — but someone involved with security issues and government business would be more likely to spot them and investigate. Clearly going to the media was mischief making. And why actually give these things to the media? That’s nuts. My big question would be how these things got into the garbage in the first place. Who is deliberately trying to sabatage the credibility of the government? Why not check security cameras if they are available?
