The Black Rod doesn’t just get under the CBC’s skin – he blisters it;
Cruickshank MUST identify the two Liberal MPs who conspired with CBC reporter Krista Erickson. If one of them is Paul Szabo, then Szabo MUST resign as chairman of the ethics committee before hearings resume.
If Erickson was in touch with Paul Szabo, it means this wasn’t just a “third-rate burglary”—oops, wrong scandal—just a minor flirtation with the Liberal party by a CBC employee. It means it was a carefully planned ambush.
Rodriguez would ask the questions, Szabo would overrule any objections, and Erickson would do a story for the CBC news. As easy as one-two-three.
But we can’t stop there.
It’s fascinating reading, and the names that crop up just keep getting bigger and bigger. Read the whole thing, then pass it along to a friend. One in media would be best.

Thanks Black Rod, Very interesting info. Sounds logical to me and supports what I’ve been thinking and saying for a long time. That the CBC is the propaganda arm of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Scrap it and let them pay their own shot like the rest of us do.
The silence of the other media on this issue shows just how poorly the public is being served by our national press gallery/media. They are all, it appears in cahoots with the liberals to say and do anything to discredit the government. They are used to being spoon fed inside info at trendy restaurants by the liberals, but with conservatives in power they are ignored and the ego’s are bruised. If Harper walked on water, they would criticize for him not being able to swim.
Not only is this disgusting, but what is worse is what have they turned a blind eye to in the past regarding Liberal governments.
For one, I don’t recall the angst of reporters about the fallen soldiers returning from the Kosovo “peacekeeping” mission (which it wasn’t). There was no coverage of repatriation of lost soldiers from that mission because it would harm the liberals and the media of the day obliged. There was coverage, yes, but not what we see today.
The “Lack of Ethics” committee strikes again with Paul Szabo at the helm.
For our next trick we hoist the Jolly Roger from the Peace Tower!
LEDA:
Canadians are smart enough that we only walk on water when it is frozen to a depth of approximately 36cm! Fortunately the lack of AGW has been obliging with frosty temperatures.
Cheers

I know everyone thinks you just have to find the culprit or culprits and everything will be fine but that will not solve the CBC biased reporting
My comments are not an option for the present
situation (fleshing out) but to prevent future problems
Management does have “Motivation” tools that don’t attach blame.
The CEO calls a meeting with the three dysfunctional operational units
1. Management (including Exec Producers)
2. Editors
3. Journalists (including on air talking heads)
He explains that every story does not need to have a shot of a lumberyard, with a voice over comment, of clear cutting. Etc. Etc Etc
He hands out 3 sets of numbers. He puts up a dartboard and throws one Dart. Each
person holding that number is fired. No reason, No argument, No appeal
He explains to those remaining that he expects a complete plan, across all disciplines,
of Best Practices & Journalist Standards. If they fail the next meeting may be done without employee participation, and many darts….If they chose to walk out.. turn the lights off
That’s the motivation power of a DART
The US School Boards are using a similar Motivation tool (shot Gun) with the Teachers Unions. They are firing everyone at failing schools for NO reason, NO argument, No Appeal. They then re-organize from top to bottem.
The Courts in the USA have been allowing Companies to fire employees, for no other reason, but re-organization. It’s a standard practice
Just one POV
Sooo..Did the reporter who asked Sandra Buckler about the detainees (the terrorist prisoners!) get a ‘feed’ from Deyawn or his pal Iggy? Deyawn said he ‘knew’ about the order to stop transfers for weeks because he found out about it when he was in Afghanistan (but sworn to secrecy)…he just passed that along to the ‘reporter’ interviewing Sandra Buckler, maybe,.. or maybe it was Iggie, maybe both,.. maybe neither but the reporter must have known….Who else knew and when did they find out about it..who did they tell?
Things that make me go hummmm?
Szabo’s response to Muldoon’s protesting the question was way, way to fast to not have been prearranged. The whole things cooked.
hmmmm, maybe we can have a trade?…..re-instate Linda Keen in exchange for the head ( on a pike ) of the CBC?
I’m pretty sure that the CBC is in the cross-hairs of the current Gov if they ever get a majority. If not, they should have.
Tax-payer funded lies and distortions.
TRUTH we can all accept…..LIES we cannot.
I was watching Duffy yesterday and he is being called to testify at the “Ethic’s Committee”. He was interviewing Greg Weston and some other journalist (the guy who replaces Duffy when he’s away). To make a long story short both of these guys went on a rant about how partisan the Conservatives are to even bringing this issu to light.
The sheer hypocrisy of these guys boggles the mind. Nothing the Liberals do is ever partisan . They made statements that the Conservatives were fed questions by journalists all the time. I think they should have to back up statements like that with solid evidence.
I guess the MSM does not want to be the story. They don’t want the general public to know that they are being manipulated on a regular basis. It was entertaining to watch Weston rant on Duffy. The statement ” The Lady doth protest too much” comes to mind.
There was a piece in the Globe and Mail yesterday stating that General Hillier is not happy that the detainee issue is constantly being used for partisan purposes. The implication is that the Conservatives are at fault. Who has being using this issue as a political football? Dion and his merry men. They seem to think that all military operations should be common knowledge. This totally flies in the face of common sense. Again to use an old adage ” Never show your enemy your bullets.”
That seems to be a common theme from the left. If it make sense it must be wrong.
Anyone have any opinions about a Prime Minister meeting with a sleazy arms dealer now facing serious charges in Germany and, a few weeks after leaving office taking $100,000 in cash in a hotel room, the first of three such payments?
The rest is just blowing smoke.
What corporation couldsurvive losing $1.5billion ayear scap it
Well Mark, I am the very last person in Canada to defend Brian GST/Assault Rifle Ban Mulroney. He’s a pink-underwear, fake faced socialist in Conservative drag if there ever was one. His single useful contribution to this country was the destruction of the Progressive Conservative party, making way for the CPC.
But gee whiz Marky, don’t you think actual collusion between the CBC and the Liberal Party of Canada bears looking at? I mean, if the CBC follows orders from the Liberals, what’s going to happen if some Lib prime minister starts handing out brown bags full of cash to advertising execs in Quebec? Won’t the CBC ride to his rescue?
Oh, wait… that sounds oddly familiar. Haven’t we seen this movie before?
Just out of curiosity, since the CBC is owned by the government, could one get the names of the 2+ MPs through freedom of Information?
Mark, what is your opinion of Jean Chretien/Paul Martin Liberals allowing the Bronfman’s to skip the country with their $2.2 billion family fortune, and not pay $800 MILLION in taxes?
Do you realize that then Finance Minister Martin then hired up to 9600 new tax auditers at RevCan to squeeze that lost tax revenue out of the small Canadians?
$300,000 is small potatoes in a questionable private deal.
$800 MILLION in lost tax revenue – big deal and crooked as hell.
Heads should have rolled.
And if they insist on going back to Mulroney’s 1990 dealings, then they can damn well go back to the Liberal/RevCan criminal activity involved in the Bronfman deal.
Oh, did I mention it was $800 MILLION?
Just a tad more than $300,000.
seems the Eatons escaped with a equally large tax free bonus after recapitalizing the family business. It promptly went bankrupt.
and as for Mulroney, I read the Stevie Cameron book, if one page of that book was true , one out of the 500 plus pages, then he deserves to be reviled.
Mark: Do you ever wonder why the “slezy arms dealer, you so describe, is meeting on a regular basis with one of your liberal members of the ehtics committee, in posh restaurants with their table full of papers, just this past week, as reported by Mike on Mike Duffy Live…Ever wonder why that same liberal member went to the PRISON (and he admitted on T.V. himself, he had visited Mr. Schriber several times, before the hearings ever began)…. Think about this one.. has Mr. Mulroney ever been charged with any crime in this country, but the man meeting on a regular basis with your liberal committee members is wanted in Germany where he will end up in prison the minute he arrives…. Who is dealing here with the “slezy arms dealer”…. Sort of like the jury meting with the witness before trial, or just maybe trying to “craft” questions together that maybe will get WHO in trouble.!..
The whole thing has been shammed by the blood thirsty, power hungry Liberals. Pat Martin of the holier-than-thou cloud dwellers is on an exhibition of utmost righteous indignation as well. It’s nothing but a kangaroo court, a side show for political hacks and hounds with morbid hatred for Mulroney and Conservatives in general.
Szabo gave himself away when he allowed the off mandate, outrageous questioning by the parachuted questioner Rodriguez without the bat of and eye when Mulroney showed disbelief at the questions.
Very suspicious behavior indeed.
The whole thing will go down hill from here.
They’re going to hear from the likes of Stevie Cameron, that will certainly put the icing on the cake for theater.
We must get the names of all involved in the collusion. There appears enough hanky panky has happened to can the whole thing as a farce.
Mulroney did not steal any money from taxpayers. The Chretien Liberals enabled millions to get tossed to the wind,if they’re trying to get even, tar the Conservatives with the same sort of corruption , they’ll have a long way to go, this Conservative amalgamation has no connection to any of it.
The Black Rod deserves a lot of credit for keeping Pablogate alive. I didn’t realize that Pablo wasn’t even on Szabo’s committee and that Pablo made a special appearance just to present his story on Mulroney/Quebecor/telecom/ Bernier … all of which is fair game in QP but has nothing to do with the enquiry the Szabo committee was looking at.
So this is a CBC/ Librano$ conspiracy and cover-up. This is a hate crime that would come before the HRCs were the Librano$ in power and the tables turned.
Pablo has himself convinced that he’s a modern day Robin Hood and the ends (power for Librano$) justify the means. He is like his namesake Pancho Villa. OK, then let’s put a reward on his head … a million Pesos to the lawyer that convicts the CBC and Librano$ who conspired in Pablogate.
General “Black Jack” Pershing went after Pancho and The Black Rod is going after Pablo. Maybe the CBC can do a mini-series on the drama.
According to Duffy’s press guests yesterday, this is a storm in a teacup, and, furthermore, the tories have “cooperated” with the media exactly in the same way when they were in opposition.
It would be interesting if someone with tory related inside information could confirm/deny these claims.
I too, would like to say “thanks” to people on these blogs for keeping this story alive… There has been nothing in the media about this story, and if you listen to reporter Weston on Mike Duffy Live, this is something that should be allowed to happen…. Let the liberals continue on their Merry Ways, that is what they have done in the past, that is what they are suppose to do, they have the divine right to rule this country any way they see fit! with no questions asked…. But we don’t have to depend entirely on the media any more… we have our own media, and it is people such as Joanne, Stephen and others that has kept this story alive into affairs that is totally wrong in this country and needs to be fixed, for everyones sake!….
One word: privatize.
Marc Bourrie…do you have an opinion about present Lib MP’s cozying up to this criminal?
Mark Bourrie’s comment is very disappointing, especially since he teaches communications at Loyola. Mark’s seeming inability to separate the admitted stench of cash in Mulroney/Schreiber envelopes from Pablogate appears to be part of the media derangement syndrome about anything involving conservatism. So we won’t just retire the old baby boomers in media, we’ll get a whole new crop of Bourrie Loyola graduates to keep the derangement going.
As stated by others , Mulroney did not take cash from the taxpayer and he is appropriately being investigated and the Johnston report will deal with whatever next steps need to be taken. Hang ‘em high .. who cares? But the Szabo committee is supposed to be focusing on that issue; however, it got totally sidetracked because its mission and the CBC’s is not about finding out the truth of Mulroney/Schrieber, it is about power for Librano$.
It is interesting to see the CBC throwing one of their own reporters under the bus but keeping the names of the Liberal MPs she was colluding with private. Is the CBCs Liberal bias so strong that they would rather sacrifice one of their own to protect the Liberal Party?
Apropos the current thread – FYI- This is a copy of an email sent I sent to Dean Delmastro late last nght regarding the MSM and Szabo.
Joe Molnar
MP Dean DelMastro,
Peterborough, Ont
Mr. DelMastro,
Good on you to get Mike Duffy involved in the alleged CBC / Liberal collusion story.
Hopefully Jean LaPierre the journalist who blew the whistle while on Duffy’s show will also be called.
Was the chairman Szabo apprised of the line of ( irrelevant to the Schreiber / Mulroney issue) questions by Pablo Rodriguez in advance?
If I, a lowly observer sitting in my living room can sense obvious irrelevant questions in a parliamentary committee, that have no bearing, relevance or are germane to the Schreiber / Mulroney affair,
and turn out to be CBC journalists planted questions, that parliamentary ethics committee then is surely compromised by the collusion with that news disseminator and has lost its relevancy and is in my view, in disrepute.
Hacks like Greg Weston, Duffy et al dismiss it out of hand as Harper’s Conservative grandstanding , but are they not willfully blind to an unsavory bit of Liberal politics as well?
The bias of MSM is palpable in this case.

If a slimy two bit arms dealer wants to slosh his or whoevers money around that is entirely his business Mark Bourne. If the governing Mugabe Liberal party of Canada sloshes tax payers money around with sponsergate, guncontrolgate, hrdcgate, canadian wheatboardgate… that is all of our business. Yes there is a difference for the dullards of this country. Time Canada grew up and put the run on these despicable theives called the Liberals for good, they a re ruthless, imbeciles who care not a bit about the people of the country they only want back into poweer so they can resume stealing. Think about the gun control alone, 2 billion, what a perverse joke to vote for a liberal.
johng – perhaps you consider transfering Krista Erikson to work at the CBC in Toronto an act of ‘throwing under the bus’ but I wonder if she does!
The reality remains – that a senior CBC political staff member has colluded with members of the Liberal party to attempt to denigrate the Conservative government. This collusion with, it appears, both Rodriguez and Szabo, has only been admitted to, in part, by the CBC.
The CBC has attempted to slough off the situation by suggesting it was ‘inadvertent zeal for a story’, a convenient legalese jargon that reduces the action to pure emotion and denies intent. The MSM pack has closed ranks to protect their own, also claiming that, tut-tut, it was ‘just the zeal of the young’.
This ignores that such zeal is never shown in favor of the Conservatives; it ignores that Szabo as Chair, ought to have immediately disallowed the question and kicked Rodriguez out of the room. He didn’t. Why not?
And, it ignores that yet another Liberal, Thibault, regularly visits and discusses the case with Schreiber, someone who is doing everything he can, in act and word, to remain in Canada and out of a German jail.
As soon as I read that Krista had used her blackberry, Scott’s name popped into my mind. Wonder if he sent those messages to his banking friends, aka IT.
I want to say Thankyou to the Black Rod Blog for continuing to work on the story. I have always felt the MSM have a hidden agenda and after watching Mike Duffy Live I am more convinced than ever there is a hidden Agenda. The MSM need to come clean with Canadians. Stop hiding their dirty little secrets and be held accountable like all other Canadians.
From an interview between Michael Harris and Mike Duffy, of a few weeks ago …
Harris: I think also its a big test for the new head of the CBC, [John Cruickshank]fresh from the Chicago Sun Times. John has got a problem on his hands …
Duffy: … I’m not certain that ANYBODY who hasn’t been part of that inside circle at the CBC has ANY appreciation of just how political and how difficult a place it is to manage. I mean there are factions within factions that are politically correct, the understatement, the people who are in positions of power share a COMPLETELY different value set than most of the rest of us in journalism.
Duffy: … well Michael, you wonder why this isn’t a bigger story in the newspapers. And the
answer is the CBC is the largest hirerer of freelancers in the country. … For many years it was the money people made on the CBC that made the difference between an OK life and a good life for many journalists. Rule number 1: don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
(now broken) link
Dear Mike Duffy
On your show tonite Greg Weston stated that the press has suggested questions to MP’s in the past. This is not a deep revelation. However when the media admits they colluded with an MP and the MP denies it, then Canadians want and deserve answers and the truth – should they be denied that much?
Since Greg Weston and Graham Richardson do not want this subject pursued we assume they have that answer from Pablo, since as inquisitive pundits they would not rest until they did, being as thorough as they usually are. Then it is something that Pablo only shared with them, and we ask whether this was just pillow talk between the three of them, and if they were sworn to secrecy? Why should the truth be denied to other Canadians, particularly after it received so much publicity on the Mike Duffy Show.
I suggest they follow Dion’s parameters of being sworn to secrecy which means you divulge the secret when and where you see fit.
P.S.
The nature of the question was not relevant to the scope of the enquiry and was obviously posed for other ulterior motives and partisan politics.
Someone mentioned Freedom of Information…
CBC is subject to FOI requests now. Request it, it will be on the CBC server, or should be since the company is inevitably paying her bill.
As well, since Szabo is chariman of a committee and it is doing governments work, does that not make his emails on this matter subject to FOI. However I would start with an FOI request on pablo’s email since it would liekly contain a couple of things
1) The tone of the conversation between them…as in “Pablo thanks for doing this, I’ll make sure your coverage is solid” to “ha ha this will get him Pablo”
2) It likely will contain cc’s and show who else it was sent to and if you follow the forwarding trail who Pablo sent it to, i.e. who else knew.
3)The emails provide documentary evidence, maybe Mulroney’s lawyers should try to summons thes edocuments so that it can be seen as well.
The information is all there on the House of commons blackberry server. Its ALL there….someone just has to go get it.
I wish someone would ask Mr Dion if the second MP was a Liberal. Straight up. Let him deal with his backyard, or the consequences of not cleaning it up.
Oh yeah, you need to find a reporter to ask the question…
What about the false story in the Globe and Mail a couple of days ago.
“an unnamed source confirms that General Hillier was furious with the Prime Minister about the Afgan detainee matter in a phone conversation”
It now turns out that the Prime Minister and General Hillier have not talked on the phone for several weeks.
I think the Globe and Mail is showing the same bias as the CBC.
Blackberries: Brings back thoughts of Scott using his during the IT talk. Also notice how similar Pablo’s question was to one asked by Scott in QP in the HofC. So, did Scott give the question to Krista who passed it on as her own.
Ron,
It is convenient for both of those parties to deny that story. It is also convenient for the General to find a way to leak his displeasure at being accussed of not informing the government.
My guess, that there was some communicationfor the gerneral likely indirectly to the government. Likely aide to aide.
Government continually stubs its toe on this issue. Shame, here they are trying to do the right thing and get lambasted for it. Its not like Canadian soldiers tortured afghans, but you think this would be the case given the coverage.
Frustrating.
Has anyone else noticed how more subdued Scotty Brison is since he got married? Seems to have lost a bit of his bite, not playing a big role in Dufus Dion’s quagmire. The pit bull has tamed.
maybe PMSH can preface all of his answers in question period with another question “Is this your question or one from the CBC in the press gallery?”
On Mike Duffy, Greg Weston stated that all this is about is the Conservatives playing to their base – people who don’t trust the CBC. More or less presenting the issue as if its nothing more than a silly rightwing conspiracy theory.
Well, I don’t know Mr. Weston, if at least a third of the country believes that the CBC has passed well beyond a leftwing bias and has been proven to be collaborating with the Liberals, this is not a conspiracy theory. It is fact.
To make matters worse, our forced tax dollars supporting this aberration are worth exactly as much as Liberal tax dollars.
This sleazy tax sucking outfit must be fixed, sold, or permanently closed.
What are the logistics for getting on to the Ethics committee for a cameo appearance?
Are there any rules? advance requests? approvals?
Did a member have to step down for a day to allow Rodriguez to sub in?
Who was the MP who quickly claimed it was a legitimate question because it “goes to credibility” when protested by the Conservative committee member?
Not quite on topic but I’d like Mark Bourie to perhaps give us a comment on the Radwanski incident. Never mind comparing the alleged $300K that Mulroney received to the HRD fiasco, the Adscam fiasco, Shawinigate, gun registry, Bronfman settlement, CS lines, etc., etc., just look at what the Liberals did for Radwanski, Mark, and you have the temerity to comment here. Maybe you should go back to the Liberal sandbox and bury your head again.
Apparently all members of the house are members of all committees…hence the swutcheroo’s that take place, Pablo, Kenny Dryden, Thomas Mulcair…all ridiculous in that they are clearly there for effect and not because they have anything substantial to add.
But if each party wants to substitute a different person at any goven time they can. No minimum time, no warm up required…..it is silly. Yet another rule to be fixed.
I will say again, all answers for this remain on two servers, the CBC email server and the House of Commons Email server. Question is are emails sent on the House of commons account considered priveledged communication, and what if they are sent ourtised the purview of the house of commons, meaning the email initiated outside….
If so that means you have to get at the CBC servers where the communication is not proveledged, hard to consider the MPS a source when they were the receipients as opposed to delivering info to Hurricane Krista “I am a reporter I demand a King Size Bed”
It is all there. You just need to get a light shone on it. Any Con MP’s reading this, you are best placed to make the request.
As for Mulroney’s tx records….look he may or may not be guilty of soemthing….but this is getting ridiculous. All due process is being thrown out the window in an effor to GET MBM.
So called Liberals and New Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for throwing out the protections that they claim to defend so lustily.
Scratch any of those people, and what you find are demagougues. They would have been totoally at home in the French Revolution, The Inquisition or working for Senator Mccarthy…..no shame. Quite frankly the only MP’s behaving with any decorum and decency are the Bloc MP’s, who are not grandstanding and ask questions from a place of respect. How ironic.
I urge you to read this article on the affair. One of the few that raises the fair process question.
http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=259059
you mean this Radwanski? a journalist, turned government, turned hog at the trough? but always a liberal , in fact a trudeau a$$kiss
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Radwanski
I just had a conversation with a nice lady who claimed that we are in afghan. fighting Bush’s war. When I changed the subject to the weather and all the snow we are getting out here on the left coast she replied that the weather is only going to get worse with global warming.Right from the cbc’s airwaves to her lips, very frustrating.
The other glaring farce is this committee is called an “Ethics” committee. Where does the ethics begin and where does it end?
One would think it should begin with the Chair, in this case Szabo. He has to come clean on what he knew and when. If not the whole thing is nothing but a Lynch Mob tribunal to render the most political damage to the current Conservatives. Mulroney’s dealings are nothing more than their OPPORTUNITY to do just that.
I think the government (CPC) members of the commitee
should boycott it until there is a new Chair.
Simple
I think by the time all the manure is spread this will be bigger than watergate. but don’t just comment here.
You can comment at the CBC too!
Tell them you’re happy with the way they use your tax dollars for their political party, or whatever is on your mind.
🙂
Even if they delete it I guarantee you will appreciate the experience of making someone read the first line or save the real vitriol til the third line.
dinosaur…thanks for that. And i did tell them how I feel. One wonders if the cbc will unwittingly be the reason of their own demise.
Reporters may regularly provide questions to MP’s to ask in Question period of other MP’s; I don’t know. However, this was the questioning of a (now) private citizen under oath in a quasi-judicial process about an entirely unrelated matter. That is an important distinction.
dinosaur, thanks for the link. Here is the letter I sent CBC (since they will not likely put it up at the PUBLICALLY funded site)
To Whom it may concern;
I am a taxpayer and I am forced to pay for the biased reporting that members of the CBC are paid to perform. I am not a supporter of the Liberal Party of Canada, I am not a supporter of the NDP either or the Greens. I do not have a government job. I am NEVER represented by the reporters I am forced to pay.
The nasty attacks on the Prime Minister and the Conservative Party – the Political Party that I support – are ongoing everyday, all day, by CBC, in Canada – I am not making this up!
I fiercely resent CBC cheerleaders for all left wing people and organizations and outfits on the public funded airwaves. Your TV people do not call President Bush “President”, they do not call Prime Minister Harper, “Prime Minister”; yet they never call Queen Elizabeth, “Windsor” or “Elizabeth Windsor”. They MUST show respect for democratically elected leaders to meet my democratic standards: don’t forget I am footing the bill! I also do not want these reporters working with Liberals or Bloc members or the NDP to help them help themselves by having the Conservatives out of government.
The bottom line is: I do NOT want to pay for CBC anymore. Please tell me how I can get my refund for all the years I have paid the CBC, involuntarily, to ‘air’ opinions, fairy tales and biased news stories that do not reflect my views in any shape or form.
Thank-you for your prompt reply.
Sincerely, ME Kennedy
I liked your letter Joe Molnar – you could tell my Duffy’s face that he was thrilled to be asked to the “Malrony/Schriber/pablo/Sazbo/CBC” committee. Greggie and the other guy were noticeably alarmed – almost enraged – and greggie Weston spewed forth his terror and ‘outrage’ today in his piece at National News.
Thanks Black Rod, Kate and Joan and posters for keeping this story ‘cooking’. Keeping Canada ‘hot’ during times of Global Freezing. New ways to ‘fight’ Mother Nature at SDA!!
