  1. wonder when they will shut down the polls, they arent getting the answer they desire.
they should reword it like they want it to come out.
when will Harper stop ruining the environment?
    A. 50 years
    B. never.

  2. It’s only a matter of time that the brass at CTV will stick to tried and true poll questions such as “Are the Conservatives scary?” and “Which party is the biggest threat to da Canadien value?”

  3. Nice to see the public is aware that the Libs had 13 years to do something about real environmental concerns and did nothing. Instead of focusing on heavy metals, noxious poisons, and other real pollutants, they got stuck on a naturally occurring gas that plants need in order to live. And the rest is history.

  4. These online polls are useless. I suspect many Tories are flooding it. Every scientific poll shows strong disapproval of Tory environmental policy. Lets see a scientific poll, which I am sure the Tories would come behind the NDP, Liberals, Bloc Quebecois, and Greens on who is best for the environment. I would put the Greens first, NDP second, Bloc Quebecois third, Liberals fourth and Tories last and note I am card carrying Liberal so I am being fair here by not putting the Liberals first.

  5. look at the charts, what they dont mention is Canada has a growing population, is the second coldest country in the world, and that we are the only one stupid enough to sign a reduction of heating into such an obvious scenerio.US is out , Australia is out.
    http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070110/ghg_record_070110/20070115/
can someone find the rest of the chart where Haita and Lesotho and Botswana CO2 emmission/GDP are shown. co2 to GDP would be pretty linear.
and CTV – carbon dioxide is odourless.!!!

  6. “I would put the Greens first, NDP second, Bloc Quebecois third, Liberals fourth and Tories last and note I am card carrying Liberal so I am being fair here by not putting the Liberals first”
So the bloc would be better for Canada’s enviroment? Please explain how a party with no seats outside of Quebec will deal with the national enviroment.

  7. Is it just my imagination today or has Borat Dion been given a “great big cup of shut the fuk up”
The BQ— they will accept green house gas credits for quebec as hush money. like Kyoto it aint about changing emmissions its about tranferring money.

  8. Hey Miles,
Why aren’t the liberals or the dipper flooding these polls?
    A. They are too computer illiterate to participate.
    B. They are busy watching Rosie O’Donell/Opra
    C. They are participating truthfully and you can’t believe it.

  9. “These online polls are useless”
Of course they are! The Greens, the NDP and the Bloc want to shut down the car plants and they also want to shut down the oil production….
No-one in their right minds want that or we are in deep doo doo. The Conservative planning is basically the Liberal plan but more honest, and hopefully more practical. The Liberals have been blustering about their progress for years but it was nothing more than the usual smoke and mirrors from them. For people paying attention, the Conservatives are attempting to make this a rational debate to effect a real measureable difference as opposed to all the boasting, strutting and swaggering that is going on with the opposing parties. Give Harper and his team a chance.

  10. “These online polls are useless. —-
    I would put—–”
    What?
    “I am card carrying Liberal”
    Okay I get it now.

  11. Its true cause we vote and make it so.
Haha those idiots, theyll never know we blogged about it and voted on mass
    HAAAAA HAAAAA
    Stupid progressives,
    we out smarted them again
    ha
    ha
    ha ha ha
    ha
    hehe

  12. Miles Lunn :
Hate to intrude into your private special place, with a dose of otherness.
In this age of political correctness, particularly if your name is known to any group asking questions. Do you have the absolute naivety to believe there is anything like a scientific poll except an election, plebiscite, or referendum? When even the Media are suspect with real reason?
You Lefties have cowed people into lying or evading any real confession of what they believe, because they have learnt that anything they say & do will be used by the left or “progressives” eventual can or will be used to destroy them personally, professionally, if not bodily.
Do the cases lately tried by human rights boards Star chambers) ring a bell ? The lefts answer to Stalin’s tribunals. They abuse business as well as the individual. Using this to control our very thinking by fear of reprisal for having another opinion on any subject, but the Single party rule liberal stamped ones. With them control is all by any means to circumvent democratic rights. To add new ones by zealots for more power. At the rest of the citizens freedoms.
We see this in dealing with any Government institution, including the medical system. The Liberals corruption bit deep into the marrow of this Country bones.
In the end you may have killed public awareness of issues till the internet took bloom. But you have suborned your own measuring stick in the process by your very moral relativism pulled by the social engineering train wrech.
Thanks Kate for posting the poll. These things are always a gas.

  13. In University I had a statistics professor who told us to never trust any telephone survey that was published in the Paper or on TV. The reason for this is that the survey data is never published alongside the statistics and you can easily manipulate any survey to say whatever you want. Small tricks like how you ask people to take the survey “Hello, would you like to take a survey on the Damage the Alberta Economic Boom is causing in Canada?” to how you phrase and order your questions will prevent people with differing oppinions from taking or finishing your survey.

  14. Looks like people are paying attention and realize the Liberals and Dion did squat for a decade.
The more they call for action and decry the Conservatives for not acting quickly enough, the more people realize how damned bad the Liberals were on the file.
It’s going to backfire on them big time. It has already begun.
Steffawn hasn’t a hope, and absolutely no comeback on this issue they are determined to make number one.
We await the Shadow Cabinet. Whither goes ralphy Goodale? Any guesses?

  15. Paul Wells would say on-line polls are not accurate because they may have votes from those who are not “stake holders”.
Wells; ” .. One of the niftiest ideas I’ve heard is that a policy proposal could, itself, be wiki’d: Publish a discussion paper and then invite people — either any ordinary Canadian who wants to participate, or perhaps a “”password-equipped community of experts and stakeholders”” — to amend the document themselves,”
    weblogs.macleans.ca/paulwells/archives/week_2007_01_14-2007_01_20.asp#002996
“Password equipped community”. eh Wells ?? Don’t even think about the ‘selective’ idea.
You probably want to forget the flakey UN climate meeting in Montreal, Dec 05, when Martin and Dion made such fools of themselves, but the ‘New Media’ remembers.
Nancy Greene-Raine was banned from the UN Cult-fest for speaking the truth. She would not say what they wanted to hear.I guess Maurice Strong and all thought Nancy wasn’t a “stake-holder”.
    sciencepolicy.colorado.edu/prometheus/archives/climate_change/001016you_just_cant_say_s.html
Same for Dr.Tim Ball. I believe Dr. Patrick Moore was allowed, but was given very limited opportunity to speak.
Paul Wells, of ‘no-comment-section’ blog, is this what you mean ??? We already have ‘stake-holder’ orgs. they are call media opinion polls. Pathetic.

  16. I’m sending this to a few of the journos at the Post who have lately been promoting a rather unbalanced view of the Conservatives position on the environment. Look for the results of the poll above the fold in the papers and as the lead item on CTV, Global and CBC. Yeah right.

  17. A quick heads-up for subscribers to the Wall Street Journal. There will be a series of questions from Bjorn Lomborg to Al Gore re: Global warming and the priority society should place on it. The questions are being placed in the WSJ because Gore refused to be interviewed by Lomborg when Gore was in Denmark.

  18. No Miles Lunn you have no choice but to put the Liberals last because you are at least honest enough to admit that the Liberals have done nothing except spend big tax dollars on who knows what(could possibly be the subject of another inquiry)and actually harmed the environment in their thirteen years in power.
Koyoto is just another “Oil for Food” scandal.
Look closely and honestly at what the Conservatives are doing and promising to do and I’m sure you would put them first also.

  19. I just voted; it’s now 9:29 p.m. and the poll seems still to be open. The Conservatives are way ahead of the other parties.
Notwithstanding not being able to trust polls, could it be that Canadians are awakening from their left/Lib/Trudopeyan-imposed slumber and finally recognize that in 13 years, the Libs did nothing of substance to improve either “Global Warming” or “Climate Change”? All talk, no walk.

  20. I have been watching this poll since it started, the Conservatives have been leading from the start, I will be interested to see if the final results still reflect that or if overnight the poll gets hi-jacked.

  21. I find it amazing that someone could consider himself somewhat more intelligent than a slug after admitting that he is a member of the Librano party without also admitting that he is on the “take”. These are the only two possible reasons to vote for this party. You are either a mental deficient or a criminal.

  22. I found this quote from the Suzuki foundation…
“What we need is a concerted effort to reduce emissions,” said Marshall. “We didn’t hear anything about what kind of emission reductions we’re going to get in Canada. We didn’t hear anything about Kyoto and we didn’t hear anything about the long term… we need all of those things in place in order for the government to credibly say we’re addressing climate change.”
Didn’t hear anything about the LONG TERM??? The media still hasn’t finished mocking the Conservatives for their 2050 long term plans. Geeeez, you can’t win with these flakes.

  23. Yes and the polar ice caps are melting. On Mars. And as someone here said “It is the American’s fault because they have had their spacecraft there.

  24. Has anyone ever noticed that Dion seems really mono-issue with not a clue what to say or do when the topic shifts away from Kyotoism and greenism.
And when he is quoted in print and in English the journos have to do a bunch of remedial filling in via interpretive brackets.
    To wit on both points:
    http://www.thestar.com/News/article/172171
[this is really juvenile but the photo cracks me up]

  25. Miles lunn, if the Conservatives are flooding the poll why are there so many Liberals voting.Do you think its Conservatives pretending to be Liberals to make the poll look good.

  26. Dion told Arnold, when he was EM that he would meet and better anything Arnold put in place. Question, how much energy is used in CA to heat homes, how much to heat homes in Canada. And dion promised to use less energy than CA for this. That proves dion has no idea of living conditions in the winter in the West. Searching and reading articles on reductions, most countries have 2050 as a target. All the true experts say much of the technology needed will take years to develope and then they have to consider how some actions will affect other areas of life. Still wondering if they have factored in the cost of importing all the corn or other grain for ethenol if there is a great drought, (remember the GW kooks are telling us it is coming) and no crops are produced. Who will get the crop, the food chain or the ethanol factories. No promos for lmotp last week, anyone watching it tonight. CSI is on so that is my choice.

  27. wonder when they will shut down the polls
Why would CTV shut down their polls when they’re obviously accomplishing the objective of suckering conservatives into visiting their site which drives up their traffic and allows them to charge higher advertising prices?

  28. Being more inclined towards pragmatism than platitudes I would rank the parties differently than Miles Lunn.
It would seem that a portion of our population prefer platitudes and as Johnboy pointed out they are likely either retarded or on the take (my bad…mentally challenged or fiscally progressive).
Regardless…the whole lot of nothing…including the mega-bucks sustenible dream offered by Svengali Dijon and the ensueing fawning approval by the MSM was fascinating to watch. Some sharp kid could write a decent Phd thesis on mass hysteria/hypnosis with what this green goof was/is/will offer.
The only polls that matter will come soon enough…on our dime…..and I suggest the results will prove to be as definitive to the course of this nation as any before it.
It’s make or break time in Kanuckistan/Canada.

  29. Mc Lelland
That’s brilliant!!!! The capitalist bastards are screwing us again!!!! I voted on that poll and essentially drove up the price of my lipton sidekicks and kokanee.
If only there were a blagh where I could become wizened to the wicked ways of the west.

  30. I never know how to answer a vague question like this. What does it mean to “protect” the environment? I think most people assume that it means to preserve the entire world exactly as it was at some point in the past, perhaps before the Industrial Revolution. Yet for most of the history of this planet the environment has varied a great deal, and much of the time was barely habitable for humans. Much of the time there was no ice at all on the surface. Other times it was half covered with ice.
I don’t believe humans have much affect on long term climatic cycles; it seems much more obvious that solar energy variation and various geological activity has caused this over billions of years. I don’t think it’s worth trying too hard to work against this affect and we should put our energy into coping with it the way it is. Global warming has been a good thing for Canadians since the last Ice Age.
So which party will do a better job of protecting the environment? I would say the one that has effective and realistic pollution controls. Both the Cons and Libs have done a decent job of this over the last few decades and the environment, in terms of suitability for human life, has been and continues to improve.

  31. Why would CTV shut down their polls when they’re obviously accomplishing the objective of suckering conservatives into visiting their site which drives up their traffic and allows them to charge higher advertising prices?
Did anybody here notice an ad on their site? I almost never do, especially with my Firefox plugin that disables Flash. I have trained my optic nerves to only pass the essential information to my brain, like the frog that only sees insects it likes to eat.

  32. Larry King had a panel of weather experts on to talk about the weather, and one guy explained the difference between global warming, and el nino. This weather in the US is because of el nino. Global warming takes years to have an effect. He also said that records prove that there has not been one state in the US that overall had higher or lower temperatures than other years. In other words, this has been normal, with bad spots here and there. Reason for so many deaths and accidents is because people did not heed the warning of a major storm coming. (after all, who believes the weather man) Go back and search el nino, and what happens during this normal predictable weather pattern. Tell Suzuki, Gore and dion, it’s EL NINO STUPID. Can’t fool with mother nature.

  33. “I never know how to answer a vague question like this. What does it mean to “protect” the environment?”
Wrap the earth in a big condom and tell everyone to go screw themselves.

  34. Joebaloni
That was wicked witty!!!! Who would have thought of slagging the Conservatives with the crimunal tag!!!!
The twenty fivty thing is also brilliant since nobody else …..other than the LPC… Stern and Taliban Jack have proposed various permutations and combinations on the same date.
    But….fivty sounds soooo coool!!!
