Instead of focusing on heavy metals, noxious poisons, and other real pollutants, they got stuck on a naturally occurring gas that plants need in order to live. And the rest is history.
Posted by: Schwarze Tulpe at January 17, 2007 7:35 PMThese online polls are useless. I suspect many Tories are flooding it. Every scientific poll shows strong disapproval of Tory environmental policy. Lets see a scientific poll, which I am sure the Tories would come behind the NDP, Liberals, Bloc Quebecois, and Greens on who is best for the environment. I would put the Greens first, NDP second, Bloc Quebecois third, Liberals fourth and Tories last and note I am card carrying Liberal so I am being fair here by not putting the Liberals first.

Hey Miles,
Why aren't the liberals or the dipper flooding these polls?
A. They are too computer illiterate to participate.
B. They are busy watching Rosie O'Donell/Opra
C. They are participating truthfully and you can't believe it.
"These online polls are useless"
Of course they are! The Greens, the NDP and the Bloc want to shut down the car plants and they also want to shut down the oil production....
No-one in their right minds want that or we are in deep doo doo. The Conservative planning is basically the Liberal plan but more honest, and hopefully more practical. The Liberals have been blustering about their progress for years but it was nothing more than the usual smoke and mirrors from them. For people paying attention, the Conservatives are attempting to make this a rational debate to effect a real measureable difference as opposed to all the boasting, strutting and swaggering that is going on with the opposing parties. Give Harper and his team a chance.

Miles Lunn :
Hate to intrude into your private special place, with a dose of otherness.
In this age of political correctness, particularly if your name is known to any group asking questions. Do you have the absolute naivety to believe there is anything like a scientific poll except an election, plebiscite, or referendum? When even the Media are suspect with real reason?
You Lefties have cowed people into lying or evading any real confession of what they believe, because they have learnt that anything they say & do will be used by the left or "progressives" eventual can or will be used to destroy them personally, professionally, if not bodily.
Do the cases lately tried by human rights boards Star chambers) ring a bell ? The lefts answer to Stalin’s tribunals. They abuse business as well as the individual. Using this to control our very thinking by fear of reprisal for having another opinion on any subject, but the Single party rule liberal stamped ones. With them control is all by any means to circumvent democratic rights. To add new ones by zealots for more power. At the rest of the citizens freedoms.
We see this in dealing with any Government institution, including the medical system. The Liberals corruption bit deep into the marrow of this Country bones.
In the end you may have killed public awareness of issues till the internet took bloom. But you have suborned your own measuring stick in the process by your very moral relativism pulled by the social engineering train wrech.
Thanks Kate for posting the poll. These things are always a gas.

The reason for this is that the survey data is never published alongside the statistics and you can easily manipulate any survey to say whatever you want. Small tricks like how you ask people to take the survey "Hello, would you like to take a survey on the Damage the Alberta Economic Boom is causing in Canada?" to how you phrase and order your questions will prevent people with differing oppinions from taking or finishing your survey.

Posted by: Syncrodox at January 18, 2007 12:04 AMI never know how to answer a vague question like this. What does it mean to "protect" the environment? I think most people assume that it means to preserve the entire world exactly as it was at some point in the past, perhaps before the Industrial Revolution. Yet for most of the history of this planet the environment has varied a great deal, and much of the time was barely habitable for humans. Much of the time there was no ice at all on the surface. Other times it was half covered with ice.
I don't believe humans have much affect on long term climatic cycles; it seems much more obvious that solar energy variation and various geological activity has caused this over billions of years. I don't think it's worth trying too hard to work against this affect and we should put our energy into coping with it the way it is. Global warming has been a good thing for Canadians since the last Ice Age.
So which party will do a better job of protecting the environment? I would say the one that has effective and realistic pollution controls. Both the Cons and Libs have done a decent job of this over the last few decades and the environment, in terms of suitability for human life, has been and continues to improve.

Posted by: randall g at January 18, 2007 12:25 AMLarry King had a panel of weather experts on to talk about the weather, and one guy explained the difference between global warming, and el nino. This weather in the US is because of el nino. Global warming takes years to have an effect. He also said that records prove that there has not been one state in the US that overall had higher or lower temperatures than other years. In other words, this has been normal, with bad spots here and there. Reason for so many deaths and accidents is because people did not heed the warning of a major storm coming. (after all, who believes the weather man) Go back and search el nino, and what happens during this normal predictable weather pattern. Tell Suzuki, Gore and dion, it's EL NINO STUPID. Posted by: spurwing plover at January 18, 2007 10:34 AMTo anyone who thinks that this poll is meaningful: do you have any idea the lengths to which pollsters go to ensure that they obtain a random sample when gathering data? The first course that a person (so inclined) might take in probability and statistics would teach you that. The fact is that a poll like this one would probably be cited as a wonderful example of terrible methodology; students would be given the opportunity to point out the hilarious shortcomings. If you disagree with this, you have no appreciation of the pitfalls that need to be avoided in gathering data, and, I daresay, would be well advised not to convert tablespoons to cups without help.
Polls like this tell us for example that Raymi the Minx has a totally awesome blog, and that Rory Fitzpatrick is just a hair shy of belonging in the NHL All-Star game. Other curious results have also surfaced.

Oh, we all know that the methodology in these kind of polls are a joke. Our point is that liberals grasp at these types of polls as if they were gospel; providing they say exactly what it is that they want to say, while decrying the same methodology when it doesn't work in their facour.
Also amusing is when the people who conduct these types polls are looking for a certain result and they get the exact opposite, which only aids us in poking fun at the obvious shortcoming of how their poll is conducted.

You don't have far to look. Go to any online poll sponsored by a Liberal or a left winger and when the results are in THEIR favour, they'll love it. When its not in their favour, its because of "Conservative or rightwing trolls" that spam the site, or they remind the readers that "this is not a scientific poll."
We have left-tards like Trollbert McClelland on myblahb try to explain his assinine reasoning for why the poll results aren't to the liking of he and his ilk. You see, he explains that its all about "ad rates". CTV is suckering Conservatives in coming over to vote because they want higher "ad rates". LOL.
No, in this instanace, the poll results cannot possibly be because of what people believe about who would be better for the environment, its got to be about suckering Conservatives "ad rates". Don't you just hear the theme for the X-Files playing? However, the second it would be the other way, Trollbert the blogging milquetoast would undoubtedly be all over it.
