The cool thing about the net is that it’s no longer necessary to subscribe to five different papers to find out how the news is presented differently from city to city;
Wow, we said. The Canadian military says the Liberals were foisting equipment “considered lemons or irrelevant” on them. They want to scrap “questionable” Liberal projects and replace them with equipment the military “needs.” Why wasn’t this on Page One?
Or was it?
Maybe it had been covered properly in other cities, we thought. We went looking. And we discovered, instead, a textbook case of story spinning.
It seems, as far as we could find, that this story was printed in four newspapers–The Winnipeg Sun, the Ottawa Sun, the Toronto Sun and the Edmonton Sun. And it was rewritten depending on where it appeared.
To begin with, the headlines were better in Edmonton and Ottawa.
Tories and military are in tune (Edmonton Sun)
Liberal promises put on ice (Ottawa Sun)
Forces may ice ships (Toronto Sun)
The leads varied from paper to paper:
OTTAWA — The military is set to scrap major equipment purchases announced by the former Liberal government. (Ottawa Sun)
OTTAWA — The Canadian Forces is reviewing its shopping list to find extra funds to pay for expensive Tory priorities. (Toronto Sun)
OTTAWA — The military is set to scrap major equipment purchases announced by the Liberals that are considered by brass to be lemons or irrelevant. (Edmonton Sun, Winnipeg Sun)
That’s only scratching the surface, as it turns out.

the Liberals were more consernced about photo ops & pfress releases than getting proper kit for the military.
Remember . . if the government is Liberal, optics & politics trumps troop safety and buying proper kit.
Troops die because of Liberal attitudes and arrogance.
Liberals . . “friendly fire” waiting to happen
Actually, what it really looks like is that the Tories are going to scrap deals and redirect contracts to companies with Tory links. Eric Margolis talked about this several weeks ago, and there will be far more covereage of the issue in the near future. None of it friendly. The question Harper supporters really need to ask themselves is: are we corrupt yet? Because, if the answer is yes, as I suspect, then you’ve set a new record.
bcl: I’ve examined my conscience, thought very hard, and have concluded that, despite Mr. Margolis’s assertions and, compared to the Lieberals/Libranos, we’ve (Conservative types) not broken any records to do with corruption.
Rest assured, bcl: I’m a reliable witness. Here. In Canada. I’m not making this up.
P.S. bcl, did you know that I spoke up for you? Some posters think you should be banned. Not me. You provide all kinds of great opportunities for rebuttal. Thanks;-)
Eric Margolis cannot be used, ever, as a source of any truthful, valid, reliable information. End.
bcl – Since you only provide completely unsubstantiated ambiguous and illogical opinions, and refuse to answer questions, then, you are not a source of truthful, valid, reliable information.
You have just asserted that the Harper government is corrupt. Please provide specific, factual, corroborated evidence.
You’ve asserted that Harper is planning to scrap the Liberal-friendly suppliers and replace them with Conservative-friendly suppliers. Please provide specific, factual, corroborated evidence. No, Eric Margolis won’t work as corroboration, for his data is not factual, truthful or valid. I’m sure that you can, however, find original sources.
Also, you’ve informed us that ‘there will be far more coverage of the issue in the near future”. Please provide specific factual, corroborated evidence of this prediction.
Otherwise, I, for one, am not interested in your fallacious ramblings.
You haven’t answered a single question put to you by myself or others in other threads. I’m very sure you don’t have the ability to answer on this thread either.
I wonder if Chavez could use some subs.
The Conservatives appear happy to go along with the plan, approved under the Liberals, for three Joint Support Ships for the Navy–mainly in both cases to provide work for Canadian shipyards.

Canadian governments of both stripes always try, whenever possible, to skew defence procurement to favour companies in Canada (and thus jobs and votes. This ensures that military equipment is more expensive than it should be (and thus less is bought) and is delivered more slowly than it should be.

As long as we’re talking coverage by Sun newspapers only, could someone tell me if they at least featured the same Sunshine Girl?
Typical skewed press, If you really want to know what the military needs, ask the military!
And they’re damn glad to have Tories in power, treating them with the respect they deserve!
BTW; Saw a documentary on the Stryker. NASTY piece of work, the USMC are replacing all of thier non-amphibious APCs with em. The insurgents in Iraq call em “Ghosts” because they can’t hear em coming… No wonder Gen. Hillier wants em!
“…Sunshine Girl?”

For her daughter Zoyas 12th birthday, Raissa Galechko was hosting a picnic in the woods of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
The infamous date was April 26, 1986.
It was a beautiful day, recalls Galechko, 60, as she pores over old photos in her Mississauga home. We were in bikinis taking suntans. +

I remember standing in the lines at CFB Petawawa when the first shipment of Iltis jeeps came rolling in. A couple of airborne types just shook their heads and spewed” f…ing government, are they trying to get us all killed.”
The “G-wagon” is the reason those men are dead, period, end of story.
So, please, Mr. Harper, please review all Liberal defence projects….our soldiers lives depend upon it.
Opinion? Want opinion? Ain’t not gonna get it here>
Tories show no sign of offering gas tax relief
CTV.ca – 1 hour ago
The Conservative government is showing no sign of waffling on its decision not to provide relief to motorists dealing with high gasoline prices. In 2004, when he was in opposition, Prime Minister Stephen Harper …

There ya go again BCL.
Blathering about things you’re not properly informed about.
You need to read more before you speak up.
BigCityLib, [A true rigid liberal] don*t confuse me with facts, said…

Actually, what it really looks like is that the Tories are going to scrap deals and redirect contracts to companies with Tory links.**
No no no… Canada links! Even with contracts that do go to US. firms… the plants of manufacture are in Canada.
Why be so stubborn? Jobs that stay in Canada will help your lifestyle too.. even if you are comfortably seated at one of the many liberal trophs. TG
Kate should never ban BCL. He does all the work in keeping the postings going. Nice Werk Kate.
CBC is still a Liberal promo pumping lacky.
On the news, no less, Bryson spouting off about winning against Harper, **Not by bashing Conservative party principles, but by promoting our own good liberal party principles**. Not the exact quote but similar.
Who the hell gets paid off to present this as a news item? A stump piece as a news item? The gall of the CBC…
This is exactly the daily drip, I mentioned above, that tends to affect election outcomes.
Do you readers in the East get this stuff or is it only a made in BC conspiracy?
Is this the same team who march in public demonstrations to de-mote Emerson and fly planes over Ottawa, but fail to offer a peep of protest when Libranos syphon off 10 $Billion of our money.
Can you explain BCL?
Harper is the main man now. what Harper says is news. Don*t give me BS from Brison…puleeeze. TG
I find it embarrassing to see people here deal with that halfwit BCL.
He has a mental disorder common to people on the left.
It is like watching sober men trying to have a conversation with a very drunk man.
I shall boycot this blog until BCL is gone.
Not that I expect to be missed, but I must make the point … he is a retard who is here to bring down quality of debate on SDA
He wastes everyones time and it’s all for nothing since, as I said, he has a mental disorder.
I find it too frustrating to deal with.
Someone please let me know if and when he is banned so I can rejoin the party.
I can’t believe so many of your are willing to engage this idiot. It does not speak well of all of you either.
Duke…
It is like watching sober men trying to have a conversation with a very drunk man.
you should know that the drunk will win every time. i’ll leave it to you to figure it out.
Give him a white pencil and a match…….
Then Duke, I guess we shall only meet again in Hell.
BCL, you are treading on thin ice with your incessant trolling.
To everyone else – nobody forces you to reply. So stop.
A bouquet for bigcitylib.
A bag of bricks for Kate et al.
No bother to me. I always make my point regardless of any trolls. Work around it I say. TG
A forum void of dissenting opinions is lifeless. While we could wish for a better quality of left leaning commenters, having a BCL is better than having no liberals at all.
Adune:
Dissent is welcome if it is intelligent, factually based and reasonable. Dissent is unwelcome if it is the lunatic ramblings of tin-hat conspiracy theorists who pull crazy innuendo out of their neither regions. When someone just says lies and nonsence it’s irritating.
There are those on the left (well one or two anyway) who can argue intelligently. BCL is not amongst them.
The Shotgun is almost unreadable now due to trolls (on both extremes.) SDA is following. I’m not a fan of bannings but at least we should avoid feeding the trolls.
It’s always a hard call when banning – I’ve warned BCL twice now for trolling, and I mean it. There’s a difference between debate and simply stirring the pot.
It makes my life a lot easier if the regulars here can simply discipline themselves and refuse to respond to it.
All it accomplishes is to provide incentive for the troll to reply, for the sake of replying – and before you know it, there are 10 posts apiece from everyone, none of them worthwhile, and the thread is unreadable.
