I subscribed to Vanity Fair for over 20 years, even in the 90’s when my financial situation was “dire”. But I stopped reading it when it lavished praise on the Obamas, how wonderful they were, the saviors of America and then when President Trump was elected, the amount of bashing each and every month about him, his family, his ex-wives, his businesses and how evil he was. I personally like the guy – yes he is heterosexual, he likes women, yes, some of his businesses have tanked (but 90% have succeeded spectacularly) and he has the right policies for America. Yes, Canada is hurting, but hey, he was elected to take care of America – Prime Minister Trudeau should be taking care of Canada. I do not give money to groups who hate me and my belief system.
Hey Big…I grew up with The New Yorker and Time magazine for the first 20 years of my life…I remember reading Elizabeth Drew’s superb essays on Watergate in the dark days that saw Nixon’s downfall, Ford’s interregnum and the improbable, unsustainable rise of Jimmy Carter. Then they both turned into fawning court jesters for the Obamas. And now they are just trash — ineptly written by angry know-nothings who are ignorant of world history outside of coastal enclaves and before the year 2004. They crap on everything I believe in, then ask why I won’t subscribe for just about nothing. They’re not reliable journalism any more… they’re just unwanted wastepaper that I’m no longer interested in hauling down to the curb.
