Red Shadow: The Economics Rock & Roll Band were a musical group founded in the 1970s by three western communists with PhDs in Economics (one of whom, Ev Ehrlich, served as Under Secretary of Commerce in the Clinton administration, and later as an economics commentator on NPR) who used hip-and-groovy-sounding music in an attempt to educate young people about the merits of Marxism and Leninism. Here they are performing a tune called Understanding Marx.
What is that funky smell?

Stuart Schneiderman, via American Digest:
“Yesterday I was posting about the horrifically high levels of joblessness and underemployment among recent college graduates. Today, a new poll revealed that 83% of this group voted for Obama in 2008.”
Once bitten…
“Out of school and out of work…they seem to have retaken possession of their rational faculties. Only a scant 27% are committed to voting for Obama again.”
“Read marx and lennin it will really turn you loose”…… more like ” how to fashion your own noose”
Sorry, EBD but Marxists are not economists. They are radicals, and outside of the law and society.
So the world did not end after all.
Expect brisk business at the garden centre tomorrow, as people who had been holding out pick up their bedding plants.
Every time a topic about how some groups or people are touting the merits of Marxism and Leninism appears I almost get sick to my stomach.
Sorry if I repeat myself, but, as many of you know from my previous postings, a couple of hundred of my and my wife’s extended family members lived under the Marxist utopia for seventy years. A half dozen or so were shot in the 1930s and dozens died during the 1925-1950 period from overwork and starvation in labour camps building the utopia for the “new socialist man” and are buried in pits along side others with the only marker being a birch tree.
The false god of socialism wants to consume all of us and our children are being taught this inhuman crap in our high schools and universities.
Again I apologize.
No need to apologize, Ken. The brutality and the starvation and unfathomable suffering and injustice wrought by the Marxist/Leninist “philosophy” in the last century – including at the time the song was recorded by these privileged westerners – makes the blithely didactic, hip/cool, “lifestyle” banality of the song even more sickening.
The reality our beloved Lamestream Media will not report on;
[The minimum acceptable value for plants is not that much below the 270 ppm preindustrial value. It is possible that this is not enough, that we are better off with our current level, and would be better off with more still. There is evidence that California orange groves are about 30 percent more productive today than they were 150 years ago because of the increase of atmospheric CO2.]

Anyone else wondering how often the Red Shadow Economics RocknRoll Band appeared in public school music classes?
What I’m wondering, max, is what the female vocalist is saying (singing) right after the introductory chorus. She repeats the identical line several times during the song, but I still can’t make it out; I’ve sent out a bunch of emails and no one else can parse it either. Anybody?
It doesn’t sound like English – could be esperanto or some other hippy bullshit.
Gee whiz, who could possibly have seen this coming?

Egypt’s fate will be? Have Trotsky, Beria, Khruschev, et al, returned?
Count Ignatieff’s family made it out of the revolution safely to Canada: “the elite will find ways to transfer as much of its wealth to safety as it can.”
“*The Egyptian revolution has cracked down on the commercial elite that ran the country’s economy for the past 60 years, and the elite will find ways to transfer as much of its wealth to safety as it can. The normal chain of distribution will break down and “revolutionary committees” will take control of increasingly scarce supplies. Farmers won’t get fuel and fertilizer, and domestic supplies will fail.”

Thanks for your comments, Ken (Kulak). We comfortable (and many confused) Canadians need to be reminded of the carnage of the Marxist/Leninist system, which socialists here dabble in, seemingly unaware of the appalling cost in human lives of the endgame.
This socialist dabbling, sadly, is the outcome of people running away from their own faith story — that would be, in most cases, the Judeo-Christian story — and adopting another, secular, faith story. The mass exodus from our Christian churches in North America and Europe in the past 60 years, to take up the myths of Marx and Lenin — because religion, supposedly, is the opiate of the people — has blinded large numbers of people to the reality of what communism/socialism bestow upon the people: mass servitude and death.
‘Talk about an opiate. ‘Talk about a delusional state of mind. Follow Marx and Lenin’s dictates and you’ll definitely find yourself in a state of altered consciousness: All the better to throw you into the Gulage, my dear.
1) batb: “The mass exodus from our Christian churches in North America and Europe in the past 60 years . . . has blinded large numbers of people to the reality of what communism/socialism bestow upon the people: mass servitude and death.” I wholeheartedly agree. The hollowing out of the West’s Judeo-Christian legacy has everything to do with “the dark rising” that we’re seeing everywhere these days. If we had the strength of our convictions—we’ve dumped our convictions overboard for “a mess of pottage”—we might be doing something more decisive about . . .
2) Yesterday, ET wrote, “lookout – I disagree that the ‘arab spring’ uprisings are about the Muslim Brotherhood coming to power . . .”
I replied, “. . . I hope you’re right and I’m wrong.”
Recently in the Washington Post (thanks, EBD):
“Egypt’s liberals worry about loss of clout as Muslim Brotherhood rises
“CAIRO — The liberals and secularists who formed the core of the Egyptian revolution are now scrambling to stave off political gains by the Muslim Brotherhood, a once-outlawed organization that is widely expected to become the dominant force when a new parliament is elected. . . .”

Congratulation on surviving The Rapture SDA commenters.
Speaking of weird, I read that Understanding Marx by Red Shadow was the mood enhancing tune playing in the background at Layton’s Toronto massage clinic and at the Sofitel Hotel during DSK’s stay. Apparently it has Catcher in the Rye like effects on Socialists. Luckily, instead of assassination attempts it causes insatiable carnal urges that forces them to seek out and exploit vulnerable women.
Don’t laugh. I have a credible source. It comes straight from The Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Expert School of Conspiracy Theories.
At the risk of incurring the moderator’s wrath I can elaborate a little about my relatives.
They were not from the aristocracy like Michael Ignatieff’s family was, but rather were from the class of fairly comfortable independent middle farmers who owned various sized small acreage farms, had a number of horses to work the fields, a few cows and sundry other livestock and poultry, occasionally hired workers during seeding and harvest seasons. They did not have servants of any sort.
Some of their children had been interested in other vocations, became educated and were teachers or other non-farm middle class occupations.
They were opposed to communism and opposed to the collectivization of their farms and to the lose of their freedoms.
For this they were declared “enemies of the people” and disenfranchised. As I mentioned above, some were shot, most were dispossessed and sent to forced labour camps, the horrors of which you can only imagine unless you have read about them.
In short they were like tens of thousands of western Canadian and US prairie farmers.
I forgot to add that they were faith based families and objected to the imposition of state sponsored atheism.
My wife’s family was similar except that her grandfather and his brother owned a small flour mill that did employ some workers.
Her grandfather escaped in 1923 and my grandfather escaped in 1926.
ron In kelowna- I wonder if the 30% increase in productivity could have anything to do with modern farming practices like irrigation and fertilization-things they didn’t have 150 years ago.
Thanks Ken (Kulak). Thanks for asking batb. Great comments; both of you.
Today’s agriculture productivity compared to 150 years ago is far far greater than 30% – for many reasons (fertilization, practices, ect) Probably 3X.
The study I referred to showed a 30% increase because of rising atmospheric CO2 alone. Similar to the dramatic rise in productivity greenhouse operators witness when they artificially raise indoor CO2 levels.
AIPAC 2011: Obama’s Speech to Jews
As is usual with this Liar he doubled down on his original mistake.
I said that the United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.

Thanks for sharing, Ken. God bless your forebears: they’re the kind we need and welcome. (Some others, not so much.) We’re glad you’re here!
I had the great fortune to work alongside a fellow who was a member of the first Romanian military unit to revolt during the 1989 revolution. He had some incredible and moving stories to tell, but only when he’d had a few.
I realize how traumatic it must be to relive these kinds of events, but I truly encourage anyone who has had to live through these horrors to tell their stories. They’re important. They matter. People who have lived their entire lives in the comfortable lap of Western societies need to hear them.

@ Daniel Ream, you would not believe how often we have been called liars by those with leftist sympathies or that we must have done something to deserve what happened.
The Red Shadow as personified by the rock and roll band is still with us and making a serious play to take control of the western world. And many of us are sleeping.
